Looking for ebook reader with these specs...

#2 is probably the most important as I have a few PDFs I'd like to be able to read over time on my android phone. If I have to convert them to a different file type that's fine, too, as long as it can remember where I left off.

There are a few apps, but none of them are highly rated. Since I've not used a single one of these I can't really say what they will and won't do, but I believe they are all free so you could give them a shot.

As others will tell you, the most common way of dealing with PDF ebooks is install Calibre or Mobi Pocket Creator on your computer and convert the PDFs to either Epub or Prc and use Aldiko, Kindle or Nook to view them.

Another thumbs up from me for Aldiko and Kindle
Kindle is great to buy from, sinks so easily between desktop and real kindle and also phone.

Aldiko just looks nice and is fast. Both a bit fiddly when importing stuff but they do work well once it's in there

I did the Calibre thing a couple of days ago and imported a PDF file to ePub. The conversion went really good; however, Calibre has this thing about "ll" - the 1st "l" as in "L" is omitted.

Does anyone have a copy of the txtr app. txtr eBook Reader & Store . It is free, but I cannot download it to my generic tablet (no market).

Sorry, but I've had a Kindle and a Nook and I much prefer Nook. They are both good, but Nook is better.

I suspect that's a problem in the file encoding and not in Calibre. You could try a file from a different source to make sure.

Regarding the OP's question, converting the .pdf file with Calibre will only work if it's a "searchable PDF". If it's a raw page scan, it would either need to be viewed with a PDF viewer, or OCR'd and converted to text.

I have spent a whole day trying different input and output formats and I can't get an ePub out of Calibre that works on my Archos 70 IT. Does anybody know what settings to use?

You can try asking the same question over on MobileRead.com. They have an official Calibre forum. I think the developers even participate sometimes. Either way, that site is really useful for people who read e-books.

Um, i use moon+ reader, i think it supports pdf's, maybe jus txt n other formats, i like it a good bit, its not like kindle where it only lets u read amazon book's or anything tho. Id at least check it out, just incase.
