Iphone 4 32gig VS Desire HD

Long story short i bought a Desire HD outright as my carrier won't be selling them for another 6 months. My contract ran out / came up for early free upgrade so i got a 32gig Iphone 4. I've been using my desire HD since they came out (one of the first Australian users). Now i really struggling to find a reason not to use the iphone 4 instead of my original plan to sell it.

Here are the pros and cons that i can think of for both phones

Desire HD pros:

Large screen
Good Camera
Andriod freedom

Cons:

Mobile data is terrible for some reason (could be carrier support related) it always lags / disconnects / takes yonks to reconnect
Screen resolution isn't that great
Battery life is terrible, i have to turn the screen right down, constantly turn off wifi etc. just to get through a full day
System sometimes lags up even with rooting and debugging etc.

Pros of the iphone:

Everything just works that little bit better, whether is smoother ui, facebook, typing (despite me buying 3 different android keyboards)

Clearer screen

Cons:

No widgets, although the main widget i used was to turn things off which i wouldn't need to do on the iphone.

No freedom of Andriod

Smaller screen

Obviously the DHD is a much more powerful devices with some really awesome features on there like wifi modem etc. but most of these things chew through battery and make it almost impossible to even use them.

Is there something i'm missing?

I'd keep the IP just so this thread doesn't drag on needlessly, as this has been raised about 100 zillion times before and us HD users don't really care much for the IP - else we wouldnt be on here!

Don't mean to be rude. Please don't take it as such.

Oh and for my 2 cents, and I dont agree that IP does things better at all....

"IPhone does everything a little bit better"

You wouldn't believe how many people would disagree with you. The DHD is a much more fun phone to use, I'd go with that.

And If I hear one more remark about the battery of this phone (which Is no wherenear as bad ad peiple like to try and make out) I'll go bonkers

me and my mate went out yeasterday, he wanted to see my desire hd, as he has a samsung galaxey s

he had half battery, I had full,

we messed around with our phones for good few hours, on the end of night before we came home

hes phones battery had dies where I still had 3 quorters, which just goes to show this phones battery is as good as any other smart phones battery

If you want widgets on your iPhone just jailbreak it. A untherted jailbreak is coming soon. The iPhone jailbreaking scene is huge, much bigger than Android hacking.

HTCwozz seems as he's one of the 1% who has a decent battery otherwise Yeh the battery sucks and there are complains all over the internet.

Stick with the iPhone and it has been discussed before.
Jailbroken iPhone > Android
iPhone will always "work better" because its Apple.

Another failure by THE ANDROID to act as though he knows It all.

1% hey? Please consider reading the rest of the forum and not just your own posts and listen to other peoples opinions and not just your own.

I've seen 3 people say the battery is ok including you. Then I've seen hundreds of people on this site, YouTube and other forums say the battery is crap including major review sites eg Engadget.

I just wish HTC would push out an update or give us all a free 1500mAh battery.

I think 3 may be a little low, but what ever you say sir, I've given up trying to discuss things with you, you refuse to listen to my advice to increase your battery life and you continue to be as stubborn as a mule.

Good day

Lol I did. I turned on USB debugging and use watchdog lite. Battery life lasts about 2 hours more. Still not enough to get me through the day with about 4 hours web browsing.

why don you just stay with your IP4 and sell off your DHD. Done, go to IP forum and start a topic about your IP problems or comparing DHD with IP4. Every single post from you is not contributing to the community here so why don you do yourself a favor will ya. As for battery life, in the end of the day is up to the user. And you cant compare with IP which doesn't run that much programme, ie widget, etc. That's what makes IP so darn boring on the home screen. If you still want to compare, do not put any widget on DHD, or whatsoever and compare it fairly with IP. See which one will lasts longer. End of story. =D

I've had my DHD for about 3 weeks and am really beginning to wish I'd got an iPhone - mainly because of the battery life. Everything is configured to minimum (brightness etc.) I turn auto-sync off all day - which means no push email :-( I even put it in airport mode so it doesn't search for signal in the office. Even then on an average day I might get 9 hours out of it. Rubbish!! Shame as I love everything else (although occasionally it is a bit laggy)...

Dear THE ANDROID...

First things first.. please change your name to IOS4... your name and your posts in this forum are way too conflicting...

if you don't like the DHD.. please sell it and buy another ifone4 for yourself.. depsite what you think about the device i'm quite sure you will easily find many people who are ready to buy the DHD from you in the blink of an eye...

also.. in another post of yours i read that you feel that the nokia N8 would have won the gadget of the year award only if it ran Android... please if you don't want another ifone4 buy the N8.. i bet you will enjoy the smaller screen.. clumsier touch.. 256MB RAM.. 680MHz processor..no replaceable batteries.. no Dobly/SRS etc. etc....
you will only have to sacrifice the android part of it and gain all the better than DHD specs in return..
you can then arrange for an award ceremony and personally declare the N8 and ifone4 as joint winners...

if you still insist on having an android fone.. kindly take up the matter with Steve Jobs and Nokia.. maybe the N9 or the ifone5 will be launched with android...

until then please stop pointlessly criticizing the DHD... if you still insist on continuing with your negative posts... i find no point in replying to any of your posts... you can keep bickering all you want...

I'm not criticising the DHD, the only two problems I have with it is the battery life and Android not being open as it's thought, I mean why can't I screenshot without rooting??

I'm not the only one who's having the problem with the battery, you know? I can assure you that the amount of people who think the battery life sucks outweigh the people who thinks it's ok by far.

OK to the people who say I say iPhone just works:-

I say a JAILBROKEN iPhone is the best. I mean why isn't it? You get tonnes of customization and widgets and the older two iPhones can run Android 2.1/2.2 as well, it's only a matter of time when the 3GS and iPhone 4 get permanently hacked that they'll get Android 2.2+ too.

To recap, I don't hate the DHD or Android, I just wish Android Market allowed everything to work on all phones without rooting etc. I hate the battery life. After 12 hours with the settings HTCwozz has suggested and about 4 hours of web browsing during the 12 hours, the battery is at 3% and I've calculated that the screen has used up 78% of the 97% of battery been used.

"Im not critisizing the DHD, but I don't like this, that and tother, I can't do this without doing that, this and that is better on an iPhone blah blah blah"

It's like saying oh, I love playstation but I hate its games, controller and system UI"

Your a very confusing man good sir.... I love how every slab of dross you come out with gets flamed yet you continue to bash bash boom everything, don't lie and suggest your not critizising, we know it when we see It.

i think you can take a screen shot without rooting. search at xda. I read across once. Android market got nothing to do with rooting apps, that you got to ask the developer of the apps. So why don't you go and request an apps at xda? LOL.

shiny-whiney - something must be wrong with your battery or your usage. I've got push emails and twitter update every 5min with auto-sync on. 70% brightness, 1-2hours of games, 2-3hours of web browsing and I can still manage to survive from 9am until 9pm with 20% left. And I always sign in my fb and msn, total about an hour.

Doesn't like DHD get something else and one thing which is weird to me is that those who are complaining about battery life, don you guys see the phone specs first before buying or at least do a little survey? Gosh.. speechless...

iPhone will always "work better" because its Apple.

I have the HTC Desire and my son has the iPhone4. I always get more battery life than he does.

As for usability I find a lot of it is personal preference (Mac vs PC all over again).

If you like Steve Jobs controlling everything you do then go for the iPhone4.

People condemned Bill Gates and his PC world dominance - what is happening in the smart phone world.

At least with Android YOU get to make decisions.

I love how it seems the word Iphone4 is a curse here. This forum is so bias towards Android phones.

Don't get me wrong, i love my DHD and if the battery lasted me as well as the Iphone, the speaker was as loud, screen was as bright, Facebook app was as user friendly and it was as intuitive with its keyboards then i'd keep the DHD.

Obviously the DHD has more features than the iphone and there are a couple of features i will miss dearly. Obviously HTCwozz gets much better battery life than myself and i'm struggling to see how. I turned wifi off when i wasn't at home, set manual screen brightness (a major PITA when you walk in and out of buildings all day), turned bluetooth off all the time etc. The DHD is classified as a smart phone but i don't think its very "smart" that the user should have to manually turn things on and off and adjust levels in order to get through a whole day of what i would consider low to medium use.

I've been using my IP4 all day, had auto brightness on, bluetooth and wifi on all day, was downloading apps etc. and its still at 70%. The same usage with wifi and auto brightness on the DHD would have me at between 15-30% right now.

A couple of you have mentioned things like "turn the widgets off" and "its better because it has a removable battery". Whats the point of having widgets if i have to turn them off? Whats the point of having a removable battery when you can't upgrade it with anything better (given time you might be able to but atm you can't)

It's just the little things that get to me and i can understand that for the kind of person who always has a charger handy, doesn't go out and crash at friends houses etc. and uses the extra functionality of andrioid then the DHD would be a better phone but for me the IP4 is the phone i'll be keeping.

PS: If anyone wants a barely used DHD that has had a ZAGG protector on it it's whole life then shoot me a PM.

I don think you should compare DHD and IP4 battery life like that. Since Ip4 doesn't use any widget in the background it does safe a lot of battery and IP4 doesn't really have much services running in the background. Of course IP4 lasts longer. As for DHD the widget are optional for you to add it or not. So if you wanna have a good battery, why not turn the widget off? It would be the same as IP4, right? So compare DHD with IP4 without any widget on and background service off. Then it would be a fair comparison. I had both IP4 and DHD and I did a comparison and both had almost the same battery life time. Still my Blackberry 9700 can last 3days without charging. LOL. In the end of the day it would be how smart are you controlling your phone and not vice versa (IP4). Up to you, since you doesn't really know how to use a "real" smartphone I think IP4 suits you well. Cheers.

*Im not bias against Apple but this is just my opinion.
