Root How to root Froyo?

I had a stock 2.1 Epic rooted with Z4. Manually upgraded to 2.21 effortlessly, all works well.

Tried rerooting with Z4 multiple times and it would not work. I removed Z4 from my Epic.

How can I reroot? The good news it Titanium is still freezing the apps I previously had frozen. However, I have no way to add freeze or unfreeze.

I also tried rerooting with z4root but it didn't work. I tried the link above (I originally rooted that way) but when I do all the commands it says that the phone is not found, wtf. I have USB debugging on, when I click it it says USB Debugging on but doesn't mount. If I try it that way it doesn't see the phone, if I then click mount on the phone (debugging is still on btw) the card pops up. If I then try and do the terminal commands again it still says phone not found.

nvm I'm ******ed. I forgot to do the temp exploit in the terminal first... I used the 2.3.0 one click though but it still worked.

You could always odin the rooted version of the DK28 release, but it would wipe your phone.

Meh, I don't mind. The only things I would lose are free apps I downloaded from the Market anyway. I want root so I can hide my web traffic through Tor proxies while using GTunes.

Is that rooted version available? Where can I find it?

If you go that route, might I recommend flashing Quantum 2.0.0 as well, no FCs and everything is running great for me on it.

I did steps 1 and 2 which was Odin the .tar file, but I don't think it granted me root access.

Yeah step 3 required Clockwork, which I need root for. And alright it's not anything that can't wait a day.

Try this instead:
[Stock Flash][Odin]Dk28 Extended 12/05/2010 inc. Root,GPS hack,Clockwork+Redir.
D/L the Deodex version and extract it ODIN and the pit are in the folder you extract to.


Step 1. Boot your phone into download by powering off your phone (until all the lights go out) holding 1 on the keyboard and holding power til you see the little Yellow digger.
Step 2. On your computer launch the included odin.exe and select the included victory pit and under PDA select the included SPH-D700-DK28-Extended.tar
Step 3. Plug in the usb cable.(if it's done right you should see a yellow Com device.) Make sure auto reset is the only option checked.
Step 4. Click Start and wait.

That's it. You've got DK28 Release and clockwork preinstalled, rooted, zipaligned, deodexed and ready to use.To get into Clockwork, hold Volume Down Camera and Power to flash your own rom.
