okay i know its been asked many times, and i know its based on your opinion, but as of right now - which phone is prerferred?

my only thoughts right now is that the moto droid is more powerful but ugly as sin. while the eris is very slick looking but with lots of bugs.

what are your guys' opinions? if i knew the eris was going to b fixed and the updated OS will make it just as nice as the moto droid i'll take it.. but if not, i dont know what to do.

please any feedback would be appreciated.

Please search this forum and others for the same question that as you state has "been asked many times". Thanks.

I like the Eris. I read all of the reviews for a number of smartphones in order to make an informed decision. I then went into the store and played with both the Droid and the Eris, as well as some smartphones running WinMo.

I chose the Eris due to the more attractive package, no slide-out keyboard, and the better price, saving $100 at the moment. I figured that HTC and Verizon would eventually upgrade the Eris to 2.0 or later at some point in time. (Looks like it will be first quarter 2010.)

i love the eris.. i hate the bugs! (i know, we are 'guinea pigs' for android os)... it just got me goin OCD here on whether i should stay with eris or go with droid, like many, i have till the holiday return policy ends and if nothing happens im staying with eris because it just feels better.

then i hear those that are going to the droid because they claim they have inside info that it will long outlast the eris.

my 'ocd problem' with these phones is the unpredictablility right now, and i know i won't find a true answer - im just looking for reassurance on which is "better" on a personal view which is very tough to judge. i think i'd be less concerned and oc w/ this if i wasn't hooked for 2 years!

what to do!

Get the Eris in late December, then hold out for the Passion release in January.

i have high doubts on the passion being released in january although from all the posts i read there is another android phone coming in january from HTC. problem is, im also hearing rumors now that it might be pushed back because of the FCC not clearing it. but this is just a rumor. but if its true, then the only thing due out is the 'little brother' of the droid.... if im gonna get the droid, i want the big brotha ;)

ive had the eris and with the 2year old hardware and crappy Sense closed-source stuff, i think id have a much better time with the droid. i need it for college and business and everyone is telling me the droid is where its at.

i will b waiting tho, im going to return the droid on the last day of my holiday return, then use my old LG phone for a week or so (maybe, unless i already made my mind up) and see if a new phone is coming. if not, the droid is plenty power for me and im tired of this waiting for the next best thing to come out - its endless.

I'm having the same dilemma. My AT&T contract is up in two weeks (thank GOD). I'm hoping for the Passion. However, I will need a phone on Jan 9th, so I'm trying to decide between the Eris and Droid. The Eris has a much more pleasant shape, and the Sense UI is great. However, the poor screen resolution is very noticeable when web surfing, and the poor battery life, and small screen, are big negatives. The Droid has a screen I like, and less lag, but I don't like a physical keyboard. If I kept my phone in my pocket, which I don't, I would get the Eris. Since I use a hoster with my current iphone, I've decided to go with the Droid. If in the time I have it while waiting for the Passion I learn to like the keyboard, and can live without Sense UI, I will keep it. Otherwise, I will trade it in for the Passion when ever it is released.

I returned my Eris for a Blackberry which I do NOT like. However, I still have my Droid. The call quality was pretty bad until a Verizon rep walked me through some steps to improve it. I guess I can live with it. Otherwise, I'll just return all my phones and wait for other phones to come out. I'd say the Droid is the best phone there is because it's on Verizon's network. It's got a faster processor, more apps, the biggest screen, a bigger SD card, and the browsing speed is pretty fast. If the call quality is improved with the next update, it'll be a fantastic phone.

I'm curious, what steps?

I can't remember what I was told to do as I've been on the phone with cs quite a few times of late. I do remember turning the phone off and back on, and maybe removing the battery and putting it back in. I [think] I dialed something other than *228 that time but I suggest you call for tech support if you're having the same problems with poor voice quality.
