Best Case / screen protector for Samsung Mesmerize

Hey all,

I have been on the hunt for the best case for my Mesmerize. I know its the same as the Fascinate, but I really haven't found a good hard case for it.

I figured that I should start a thread to talk about the best case and screen protectors we each use.

I, right now, have the Body Glove (trust me I know, I want a different one) case and I FREAKING LOVE the zagg screen protector.

I have tried a few cases for the Fascinate which I bought at Verizon... They were the blue/clear rubber hard case and the black click case with the kick stand. I didn't like the blue case because of the feel and the kickstand case didn't cover the top/bottom of the phone.

I noticed that FINALLY Otterbox just released their Commuter case for the Mesmerize (its on backorder already) and wanted to know everyone's thoughts.

The commuter series on otterbox.com was showing "in stock" tonite after I read your thread. I'm tempted...

I've been using the USCC gel skin they had available when I bought the phone. I haven't picked up a screen protector yet, and I may not.

I'm figuring with the Belief project and 3 replacements a year, why bother with a screen protector?

I'm w/you on the Otterbox. A friend has it on his iphone & it seems nice BUT we have 3 mesmerizes & possibly a 4th in the near future. Black for all of them seems like a problem waiting to happen. There is another thread on here for the fascinate (mesmerize) for a seidio II innocase. Apparently their (Seidio) customer service is superb & I had both the II & active case for my HTC Incredible & loved them both although the active was IMO superior. They do not have an active case yet for the Mesmerize however there are several colors available in the innocase II & w/a 10% discount if you enter forum10, I may fork out some ridicuolous $ to have us all in cases & holster combos. Hope this helps you.

Wow I never really looked at all the fine print for that belief project, I just enrolled to get a cheaper bill and faster upgrade.

I bought both a case and screen protector @ U.S. cellular when I bought my phone, and while I like the case, the screen protector is horrible! It says screen protector/privacy guard on the package, and it has much the same effect as a privacy guard you often see in offices on computer screens. Why someone would want that feature I have no idea, but I just bought it as it was the only custom fit screen guard that they have, and I feared if I waited a week to buy one online I would scratch the screen in that time. It makes the screen appear very dull, and I was never able to get all the air bubbles out. Don't waste your money!

After I just found out about the belief project replacement plan, I'm ripping the damn thing off!

i purchased a zagg invisible sheild (

ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield) at best buy and had them install it so there wouldn't be any bubbles, kinks, etc.

the best investment ever.

you can't see the sheild on the screen at all, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. they'll replace it at any time.

hope this helps.

Another one for InvisibleSHEILD. It might seem expensive, but it's much better quality than the other skins you find. It even "heals" itself to a small degree from minor divots and scratches. Once you get the knack of applying the skin, you'll want them on everything you own. That handles surface protection...

I also use a sewn-off snuggle sock as a "more standard" kinetic protection... Also, it's fuzzy and awesome.

I have bought 2 of these 1 red and 1 black. The black does show a little white around the edge where the two halves meet but nothing a sharpie couldn't fix. For the price I haven't found anything that comes close. My fiance bought the gel case from USCC and threw it away after a few weeks (we modified it to try and make it better so we couldn't return it). After a couple of months the a few 1/8" diameter areas of the rubberized coating has started to come off but for as much as I abuse this case that's pretty good. I bought a $25 case for my Iphone and it had the same problem almost as fast.

sorry to go off subject, but can you explain the 3 replacements a year? What is that all about? Is this if your phone is messing up or is this just some general replacement service that I was unaware of?

TIA

The Otterbox Commuter Case is pretty thin. It is way thinner than the Body Glove case for the phone.

I currently have a Zagg screen protector, with the commuter case as a whole.

My co-worker bought the Zagg "full" protection or whatever they call it. She has the Zagg on the front, back, and sides of the phone (no actual case). I was very impressed with it. It actually stays on the phone! haha

I like the Otterbox Commuter Case a lot. It fits great in your pocket.

Hope that helps.

I don't want to get this thread off track...check out USCC's site and look up the "belief plan" details. They explain the phone replacement policy in better detail. Basically, as long as you don't deliberately use your phone as a hockey puck, you can return it up to three times in one year for any reason and receive a replacement phone. The caveat is, you'll get the same model (or lesser, if you are returning it because you hate it) and it will be a refurb, not a new phone. Its not a way cheese your way into the next great Android device they get.

I just wanted to supply a few more details about Phone Replacement before any of you go smashing your phone. Phone Replacement is only included on the Premium and Premium Plus Single and Family Belief plans. It is NOT included on the Essential plans or the popular Primary Plus plan. Also, if you lose your phone or if it's stolen, there is a $100 deductible. If you can return the broken or water-damaged phone, the replacement is free!

Also, a word about screen protectors... for U.S. Cellular's Mesmerize and Desire Android phones, there is very little reason to get a screen protector. It's a very lucrative add-on for the company. Why? Well, the Desire has an extremely strong tempered glass and the Mesmerize has the famed Gorilla Glass. Both of these glasses are darn near scratch-proof (disclaimer- I said NEAR, not fully). These screens hold up very well to scratches. However, their weak point is high-velocity impact. If you drop a Mesmerize from above 6 ft onto a concrete floor, expect it to crack. Therefore, purchase a screen protector if you want to, but it's not necessary. But I would always recommend a durable case for it to absorb the shock.
