will the Virgin USA edition of the Intercept get the Froyo update? This is my first android phone so not sure what I am missing by using 2.1.
Phone works great right now. but if i put alot of aps it will have slow down right?

Also is there a way to upgrade the Sprint HTC Hero from 1.5?

Anyone know if there will be an Android 2.2 or 2.3 device for Virgin Mobile USA Anytime Soon? Or a way to update the intercept to 2.2? Trying to get the native wifi hotspot creator to use the 3G through a phone on virgin.

Thanks

Bella - Sprint.com is now showing the intercept with 2.2 - hoping that means the upgrade is coming soon!!!!!

I took it back. I was trying to reduce my wireless broadband. Using the Mifi for $40 a month, thinking for $25 a month I'd root the Android 2.1 and use wifi tethering for internet... it worked, but slow, and unreliable since the phone tends to drop the internet connection, plus it's not the best way to create a hotspot, so switched back to Myfi, and when a faster android 2.2+ device comes out, I'll try again :)

Just so you guys know, the sprint version of 2.2 can be installed on the VM intercept, with only a couple drawbacks. The main one is that your mms (picture mail?) won't work anymore. It uses the same steps a rooted sprint user has to do (but you don't need to be rooted):

Froyo 2.2 DL05 update for intercept (the VM-specific instuctions are on page 4, but it's all the same)

It requires flashing your VM with a stock sprint rom, to fool it into thinking it's a sprint phone, then installing the update. It's been done by many many people now, but be sure to read the whole thread (it's 9 pages so far).

In theory, you could flash back to a stock VM rom when 2.2 is officially released for your phone. This is discussed in the thread.

Here's a link for my simplified version of the instructions. The process is exactly the same for VM phones:

This is good for the impatient. :)

LOL @ the mult thanks for removing all the posts.

....

has anyone tried the update billkwando posted on this forum yet? wondering how easy it was for you all.. is the only drawback really the MMS? ..or are there some other screwy settings.

EDIT:

I just read through some of the posts on the link billkwando supplied, and it looks like a slew of VM users have already got it running fine on their intercepts. only drawback appears to be the MMS and Virgin Mobile Notifications (is that just the notifications you get when you topup or are coming close to the end of your 30 days?)

I can't decide if I want to wait a little longer or go ahead and update.. they said it's so much faster.. ahhhhhhh

Since Virgin seems to have confirmed that you guys will be getting it, it might not be a bad idea to hold off, but I think you can always flash back to the stock VM rom to upgrade to the official 2.2 :)
