2.3.340 Findings/Fixes....

Installed today at work and from initial wifi testing at home:

Intermittent but annoyingly persistent wifi issues with my Netgear dual band N router seem to be gone. Hopefully they stay gone.

Using Speedtest app, I now seem to get home wifi download speeds of 13.xx minimum and most times around to 14.8 to 15.0 Mbps whereas before it was always 12.xx Mbps. Upload speeds also increased somewhat. But I haven't tested extensively or throughout the house to see if it's gonna be the new standard.

Since I've only played with it for a couple hours at home tonight we'll have to see if this is a permanent fix/improvement, but so far so good.

My speeds havent changed even after changing routers. On my old netgear b/g router, always around 8 Mbs, even though my other devices are closer to 17 Mbs. Recently installed a dual n airport extreme, and still only getting around 8Mbs. Upload speeds have doubled, but that is because of the router.

On the plus side, my txts are in order now instead of being all over the place.

On the downside, now when I swype, it doesn't automatically put a space between my words. ForinstanceIneverusedtobeabletodothisbecauseswypewouldputaspacebetweenthewords...

Maybe I just need to go into settings and change something. Does anyone else's put a space between words?

Spaces auto populate on mine. Make sure you have the "Auto-spacing" box checked in the swype options.

EKyle, the first time I used Z4 (1.3.0) after the update it took it like an hour and a half to root. The second time I did it (accidentally reupdated the phone) it took about 15 seconds. I had to do a battery pull each time before it would work, it just hung the first time I tried it. And like Fabulous pointed out, I was in USB Debugging mode.

I've done it more than twenty times. Let it run for two hours while I played some Halo last night. It did nothing so I pulled the battery, ran it again, it took about 15 seconds. It went through all the motions but didn't give me root.

Granted I have not read you entire story but make sure you have USB debugging enabled, and that you are not connected to your PC. Run the app and give it 5 minutes or so and if it hasnt rooted by then, power it off and then back on and immediately run Z4root again. Works every time for me and should auto reboot itself when done. If it doesn't auto reboot then manually reboot and look for the SU in your app drawer.

Those settings are enabled. The su app is in my app drawer but root explorer still can't gain root access...

I can try once more.

Sounds like your already rooted. I would try reinstalling root explorer. Have you tried any other root apps like bootstrap?

GMB

Tried reinstalling root explorer and it still didn't work. DroidCap (?) The screen capture app didn't work either. Also, when I reopen z4 it doesn't give me the unroot option. The superuser app is still there though.

Try moving the superuser.apk off the root of your SD card and put it on your PC desktop. Re-run z4root.1.1.0.apk, then move the superuser.apk file back to the root of your SD card. Turn off the DX. Pull the battery and push on the power button to drain any residual power. Insert the battery, insert the battery cover, then power up. I don't have root explorer because I'm a paid user of TitaniumBackup.

I know I'm starting to beat this to death, but I just want to make SURE - everyone who is saying it works doing any of the above methods is also saying they definitely have the second update, not the first test beta or the leak, but the second roll out of the OTA, which is the one that ekyle and others who can't root have?

Nope... I guess I'll just need to wait for a new exploit...

What a frusterating story EKyle (I know I know, it must be that much MORE frusterating on your end of the story eh?)... but what I don't get is, isn't the kernel going out in the second update the same one from the first? And wouldn't it have to be a different kernel to deny access from a method designed to root it?

Not entirely sure. All I know is that myself and a small minority can't root the phone after the update. Z4, dark onion
