All Things Froyo

i still using 2.1 but downloaded flASH 10.1 from the app market. flash worked weeks ago

Maybe I'll check that out. I cant' say that I care that much about flash. My only complaint is that its a bit chuggy and lags a bit. I hear froyo has much better performance which is why I am on the hunt but it sounds like I"m going to be disappointed for awhile if not permanently.

To me that's a waste of money. I know I spend my money on things you may consider wasteful, so I'm not judging you, just applying your actions to my value system. I'm keeping my captivate until my renewal, which after that I may decide to keep. I originally bought this phone off contact because I couldnt stand my iphone anymore, normally I always wait until renewal time...but considering I sold my iphone for 250$ on ebay it actually ended up being cheaper off contract. My renewal comes in march, so I may jump ship to the motorola olympus. But probably not, once I get 2.2, official or not, I'm sure I'll fall back in love with my captivate. General lagginess and frequent browser and stock email crashes have really soured me. Didn't used to be that way but slowly getting worse, and I hardly have any apps on my phone fyi. Android 2.1 feels like a beta build.

Oh I never buy a phone at an out of contract price, to be honest I refuse to pay more than $130 for any phone. At&t seems to love me cause I get the upgrade price or sometimes lower whenever I go for a new phone. I love my captivate and so does my husband (he has a 3gs) but every 6 months or so I find a new phone that peaks my interest and If I don't like it I sell it on ebay usually for more than I got it for. I would love 2.2 on my captivate but I'm not holding my breathe.

Scratch that, the kernel above also has sdcard issues with jpu damnit.

And this is why people need to be very, very careful about not only installing these hacked up kernels, but recommending them to every newbie and soccer mom that comes to this site just asking about what they should do with their new phone.

These custom Froyo ROMs for the Captivate are either:

1) Based on early, buggy, pre-release internal developer "beta" builds that are known to have lots of issues and were never meant for consumer use

2) Based on the international version or other Galaxy S hardware that isn't the Captivate and is not 100% compatible. The Captivate has a number of different hardware aspects than these other devices and the differences keep rearing their ugly heads as new quirks, issues, and bugs are discovered. One day it's Bluetooth headsets, another day it's wired headsets, Now it's SD cards. Tomorrow it'll be something else.

I keep seeing fanboys claiming that these ROMs are "perfectly fine" and "have no issues" when this is not true at all. Encouraging people to hack up (and possibly brick) their phones by spreading lies isn't doing them any favors nor does it help your own credibility or make the forum look good.
