Help Pandora Phantom advance

I seem to have a phantom in my EVO. Sometimes when I listen to Pandora, my stream will advance to the next song on its own. It can occur for 4 songs in a row and then play a few songs in their entirety then advance on its own again. It dosent seem to affect the 6 skip per hr limit on pandora and doesnt always happen. Any thoughts??

it's a known issue with Pandora. They blame sprint's network (though it never happend on my instinct.

I keep following their updates hoping they will get it fixed...until then I listen to music on the sd card or to slacker

Where has Pandora acknowledged this problem?

It occurs on my Evo even when I'm on WiFi so I don't see what Sprint's network would have to do with it.

The pattern that I have noticed is that it does it only when the phone is running on battery. If it is plugged into a power source it doesn't do it. I was wondering if this is consistent with the behavior others are seeing?

I'm not trying to be argumentative but I've read post after post on forums across the 'net of people complaining about this problem but I have yet to see an official response from Pandora in any forum or on their website or in their FAQ. It would be much appreciated if you could point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Today at work I listened to Pandora all day and it did not skip even a single time. At work there is no publicly accessible WiFi so I use 3g (the signal strength was mediocre, a couple of bars). Since I'm working at a desk all day I have the phone plugged into power.

I'm sitting at home right now and have the phone on battery and using my WiFi and it has already skipped twice. My WiFi does not have bandwidth problems. The phone is showing a strong signal and the phone's WiFi sleep policy is set to 'Never'. There is currently nothing else using the WiFi.

I will continue to experiment. I just turned off WiFi and am now using 3g. The phone is indicating a strong signal (much stronger than at work). I'll report back the results.

you may be being argumentative...and twisting or misunderstanding words...it's the internet...I refuse to argue with the internet lol I've lost a kid, been in a car wreck, among about 6 other things that were not very pleasant in the last two months..I don't have time for it

I never said anything other than what users have posted in the multiple threads. If you want an official response from Pandora, send them an email or call them...as the multiple other web pepes have done

and for the record...your signal strength on 3g has nothing to do with network quality....that's on sprints end. I compare it to being connected to a wifi router with full bars...that "signal strength" is useless if there is no network connection at the modem

it is interesting that yours does it on wifi at the house. mine has no issues on wifi

continue to do your tests. the simple fact is that it doesn't work on my phone without skipping ...so I don't use it anymore

what really bugs me most is it works fine on my ps3, on the web and worked fine on my instinct which was my previous phone for 2 years (it's about the only thing that worked right on that phone) pandora and bluetooth were major requirements when looking at phones.

It would be great if someone figured out what the actual issue is...I thought it was the phone itself for the longest until I found threads of other phones and carriers having the same issue

Well, if I'm 'twisting or misunderstanding words' I'm not doing it intentionally. But, after rereading your post I think I may indeed have misunderstood what you wrote.

This is a good point and it dawns on me that starting this week there are fewer people at work as people start using up their vacation time. So the 3g traffic for the area was probably lighter than usual.

It kind of has me concerned now because I've been playing Pandora all night on 3g with no skips. Just a few minutes ago I switched back to WiFi and it skipped on the third song.

I'm not sure why because my WiFi connection seems to be fine. I just did some WiFi and 3g speed-test from the phone through DSLReports and the WiFi results blow away the 3g results I'm getting.

Pandora works fine from my Squeezebox and GTV also.

I was suspecting something with the phone too but now I don't know. I thought it might be related in some way to sleep mode but apparently not.

Thanks

Pandora works fine from my Squeezebox and GTV also.

Concerning the Squeezebox, I just thought of another interesting point. I have two Squeezebox Booms. One is hardwired into the Ethernet while the other is using WiFi. Neither one of them experience the skipping problem.

One difference between the Evo and the WiFi-connect Squeezebox is that the Squeezebox is 11g whereas the Evo is 11n.

Just thinking out loud.

For those experiencing the phantom advance..skipping songs

Please email star@pandora.com with the following information

subject line should read: songs randomly skip etc

* Manufacturer:
* Model:
* Carrier:
* Android version (Settings -> About Phone -> Software
information):
* Pandora version (it's displayed in the lower right hand corner
when Pandora is loading):
* Are you connected to Wi-Fi or 3G when this is happening?

***

Also if you can you send us diagnostics logs, these are
enormously
helpful in trying to pinpoint what's happening. We don't
have an
immediate fix, but these logs help us gather information for our
developers to try use in upcoming releases of the Pandora app.

If you can help, then first you will need to install a
third-party
Log Collector app from the Android Market.

Search for: "sendlog"
And install the app called "Send Log" (by Neil Boyd)

1. Logging can only be enabled while the Pandora app is
starting up
(when you see the blue Pandora screen).
2. While on the blue start-up screen, press the menu key
rapidly,
6-7 times in a row.
3. You should see a message that logging is enabled. *If
NOT, then
close the app and try step 2 again.*
4. Perform the action to reproduce the issue you're having.
5. Quit Pandora.
6. Launch the "SendLog" app and send the system log back to me.

Thanks so much for your help with this!

Best,

Star

edit..skipping eventually started again. all of my tests indicate this is a combination of network errors on sprints side, combined with pandora not knowing how to accommodate those network errors. see the link in my sig for more details.

So...what Star suggested to me seems to be working (so far)

go to manage applications and clear data for Pandora, then uninstall Pandora. Go to market and reinstall Pandora.

did this and tested on wifi for 2 hours...not one single skip. Tested again on the way to work this morning on 3g, 45 minute trip...no skips. In the WIFI test the phone was not plugged in to a power source. This morning on 3g it was. I am planning on running it again tonight on the drive home, without it plugged in.

(some have posted the skipping only occurs when their phone is not plugged in to a power source)
