Best Calendar App?

I have been testing Business Calendar Beta and really like it.

I can't seem to get Calengoo to install. Anybody else have that problem??

What error do you get? Try clearing your market cache, rebooting, and try again.

When I click it in appbrain, it will put it into my list for install, but it does not install. When I use the barcode, it takes me to a link in the Market but there is nothing there.

When I search the Market for "calengoo", I don't get anything.

Is the file only available for certain number of existing testers/users?

Weird, I had it on my phone the other day, don't remember where I found it...

Honestly I like Touch Calendar much better - to me, Calengoo is almost exactly like the stock android calendar. Don't really see the point...

Just searched for it again and it came right up. Wonder if I can link you to it... www.android.calengoo.com

I emailed the calengoo developer and she emailed the app to me.

Here are my thoughts on Business Calendar ("BC") and Calengoo ("CG"):

Business Calendar: I much prefer the week view or multi-day view of BC over CG. That is more of a personal preference. I like being able to look at the whole week and see what times are blocked off and which are available. BC seems to turn on quicker. There is about a 2 to 5 second delay with Calengoo on start up. Also, in the BC month view, if you touch a day, a separate box pops up showing all of the appointments for that day without exiting the month view.

Calengoo: The two nicest things are the drag and drop and the adjustable fonts. Drag and drop is so much quicker and easier to move an appointment then using the keyboard. The adjustable fonts for all the different views are a godsend, especially for my old eyes. I also like the GC tabs for the different views for day, week, month and agenda. BC has tabs for the different calendars, which I do not find very useful; the BC calendar tabs are very tiny and difficult to see and click.

Otherwise, both BC and GC are very nice calendars with good search and agenda. I look forward to the continual development of these two fine progams and will eventually choose one of them as my final calendar.

That can work, but it's frankly kind of pathetic if nobody can make a calendar program on an advanced mobile device that can do what a Palm Pilot did easily ~15 years ago.

I purchased iRT Calendar 2 days ago and yesterday morning purchased the Pro version. I really like the icons and color coding capabilities. It also supports irregular repeats which would take care of the issue mentioned above. It is the closest thing to Datebook that I have found for the android, I really miss datebook ever since I left the Palm platform. The problem I have is that I upgraded my OS yesterday afternoon to Froyo 2.2 and suddenly iRT Calendar is not listed in the market. I don't want to have to pay again. There are some websites offering the app. I sent an email to iRT and will see if they can help me get the app back. Usually purchased apps show in my market and I can reinstall them at will. Has anyone else had this issue?

What we need is Datebk6 for Android, and CESD is working on it - but it'll be Pimlical on Android. I can't wait until it's ready - I use my datebook scheduler heavily for booking my Pilates clients, I can't leave the Palm world behind until this gaping gap is filled.

Datebook 6 is the best calendar I have ever seen! I could pull up a whole 1 year view and know all of my major events through color coded categories. The number for the day would be the color of the category with the highest priority for that day. I could tell when I have my kids, when I'm on call and when there is a holiday for work; the 3 biggest things to my scheduling needs.
Month view has icons and colored text.
I would be willing to pay $20 no problem for Datebook 6 on android. I think I will send an email to Pimlico now.

I regularly use both. That's kind of the point of a mobile device.

It's coming, JPalmer, it's coming, really, it's just taking a long time - he's a one man show. I'm hoping it'll be in alpha testing soon.

Second.

This was my biggest upset when I switched to Android. I had everything color coordinated and everything on my palm.

I am also a fan of Pimlico; I clung on to Datebk5 and a 4 year old Treo up to about two weeks ago when my service provider pretty well pushed me into a new phone. I bought Pimlical for the desktop to convert my palm calendar, keep all the categories and to sync it all perfectly to Google. Pimlical is a scary powerful desktop calendar. Except for using it to sync/backup google onto my desktop, I am quite intimidated when using Pimlical. There are so many features and so much of it is designed from the point of view of an engineer, I am afraid to mess up my calendar data using Pimlical.

Oh, I goofed up on my review of Calengoo. It turns out I can get the week view that I like by just flipping my phone into landscape while in day view. I have to say with the drag and drop and the view tabs, I am starting to give my nod to GC over BC at this point. But both are still being developed.

I was a finish carpenter/cabinet maker prior to the economy falling out from under my feet. I've had a sideline business of commercial lawn care for many years... a small business that took little time to manage. Now it's my only business and I've put myself to work. I thought it would be kewl to keep track of the six to eight lawns I do daily on my phone. Most residential clients pay as they go but aren't always at home. So I need to have the appointment in my calendar.. mark that I indeed groomed the lawn and mark if I received compensation for my services. The calendar needs to be somewhat flexable to compensate for weather related delays as well. Seems simple enough.

I will check out your suggestions if you think they will fill my needs and thanks!

Ah right on, makes sense. I actually work with a lot of solo businesses like this so I've got a few tricks up my sleeve.

You could use a Google docs spreadsheet to keep track of this stuff as well but AP is probably your best bet. Also use Google voice as your business number and timedriver or timebridge will allow your clients to self schedule.

Business calendar beta has an update. It now allows setting complex repetition options, so delete my previous complaint about that. However, unusual behavior that if you move the start time of an event, it keeps the end time fixed rather than keeping the duration fixed, is still there.

Meanwhile a reply to someone's complaint about calengoo--the lack of a time chart week view: if you turn it to landscape view in the day mode you automatically get that.

So between the two I still lean toward calengoo. But maybe should be trying iRT as well.

OK, revision. iRT isn't really interesting to me, as from the screenshots it doesn't look like it has an hourly grid view. But I forgot about Pocket Informant which has a beta out.....so there are now three competing betas: Business Calendar (BC), Calengoo (CG) and Pocket Informant (PI).

After trying all three, I think PI is the most developed. It has a lot more options, and has a date picker that is nicer than the other two--shows you a calendar instead of asking you to scroll the two digits of the date. It also has tasks, which I don't use (maybe I should). I actually have no complaints about it.

But it will be interesting to watch as the betas develop into products....

How did you "drag and drop" in Calengoo? I havent seen how to do that?

I agree, however I am leaning toward BC. Seems more polished. CG has some quirks that bug me right now. And it seems slower

To drag and drop, just tap and hold an event and just move to another time slot; a very nice feature.

Calengoo is a bit more laggy and is a larger progam, but at this time, I am leaning towards CG over BC. It has an easier to use interface and larger fonts are available. I prefer the view tabs of CG over the calendar tabs of BC. Since I discovered the landscape week view, I have been a happy camper. The GC search has a quirkiness to it in the way it groups the search results; I have emailed the developer and am hoping that she fixes it.

Yes! That's what I was most excited to see in pocket informant. Calengoo also says they might do that in a future version, but for now, PI is the only one I've seen.

BC, PI, and iRT Pro are either not available in Europe or on 1.6, or both. Hmph.

Calengoo for me very often force closes or doesn't actually save entries. Turns me off.

When you all refer to "color coding" on iRT Pro, is this analogous to categories on Palm? I miss that dearly, too.
