why is hd2 slow?

anyone know why the htc is slow, sketchy, and laggy compared to something like the iphone, when it has much more hardware to work with? is this windows mobiles fault? i just thought with such powerful hardware that you wouldnt get any lag. or at least a LOT less than weaker phones

Simple...It is due to the software it is running. Windows Mobile is terrible.

I'm inclined to agree with the "WinMo sucks" crowd. It's oudated and never was very good in the first place.

We'll see what they do with it. There are still a lot of people that are hooked on WinMo phones for whatever reason. I have a friend that buys nothing else. Those users will more than likely be very happy to see an updated version, and if it is updated to compete with the likes of the iPhone, Android and WebOS, I'm sure it will get them back in the game, after all, it's Microsoft. It will need to be a complete redesign of the OS in order for it to be effective though, IMO.

I would have to say any lag, or sluggishness on the HD2 would most likely be a result from WinMo.
Couldn't see hardware as the reason "slow, sketchy, and laggy" would be used to describe the HD2's performance.

My bet is on its O.S.

My brother had the hTC Imagio, and WinMO literally almost drove him to smash the phone. WinMo on it was HORRID.

He now has the Moto Droid, and hasn't really put it down since November 6th

Its really a simple answer and has nothing to do with Windows being slow.
Windows mobile is actually an excellent operating system; the reason people say its slow has nothing to do with being Windows. It has to do with MicroSoft allowing cheap as manufacturers to put a beast on tame hardware. How can you expect to run windows on a 200 Mhz cpu with 48 Mb ram? Thats exactly what so many makers did and it ruined the WinMo name. Thats why MS already decided that in Series 7 there will be a minimum requirements that must be met by the makers.

Now to answer the question... it has to do with background processes. Windows allows many apps to be run simultaneously and if you dont keep an eye on that, things slow down.

I happen to have a Nexus One and everyone is all hibbity dibbity woo ha about android and as a techie, a database engineer, and a software developer I can tell you..... it aint all that. The Nexus One lags tremendously too. Ans the reception on the phone is about as good as 2 cups on a string.

So.... I hope Ive answered the question and to Markdental..,. sorry for being in your face but you shouldnt allow your ignorance to stop you from learning.

Engadget is nowhere near a viable source of information for WinMo. They ADMIT to HATING WinMo (Even before the release, which is complete bias crap) and also ADMIT to being Apple Fanboys. It's like polling the KKK for our presidents approval rating...

We'll see what they do with it. There are still a lot of people that are hooked on WinMo phones for whatever reason....

Rather than waiting for someone to "root" my phone's version of the OS, all I have to do is buy, install, and open the registry editor to have complete access/control of my phone's OS, and hardware, to customize/unlock "everything" (including hardware settings) via a familiar interface and syntax.

That and slingmobile support. FWIW, WinMo 6.1 ran fine on my Moto Q...can't say the same for my experience with 6.5 and the TP2 demos in a few AT&T stores I frequent.
