Syncing with Contacts

I know first hand that it syncs great with Outlook using HTC Sync software once you select Outlook as the program to sync with.

Have read that if you don't set a contact as Google Contact or something like that that they will not sync with Gmail. Not sure about Gmail as I don't want all my contacts info sitting on Google's server.

But yeah, Outlook FTW.

1. Turn off your auto-sync and just manually sync it as often as you like....

2. You can go into Gmail and create a CSV of your contacts to export them to Outlook (or vice versa from Outlook to Gmail). I believe there's software to sync it also- I don't use Outlook anymore for personal use- Gmail sync with my phone leaves me nothing to be desired in that arena.

Correct- if the contact is created on the phone, it needs to be designated a 'Google' contact to sync in Gmail. Simple quick step in the process though.

This is worth mentioning:
Your contact pictures on your phone will undergo a deep resolution/quality reduction upon contact sync with any Google service. I REALLY wish they would fix this...but no. Only solution is to NOT sync contacts with Google. This was discussed a long time ago and still no fix.

How do I set up the HTC sync? Never used it before

For Verizon customers you'd do this:

Download HTC Sync from here... HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC (Verizon) - Downloads

Install like any normal application and start it if it's doesn't stay on.

Plug phone into computer with the USB cable, when prompted to "Choose a connection type", Choose HTC Sync and hit Done

Now go to HTC Sync program and hit the icon beside Sync Manager:

On the box that pops up select the icon besides "Settings" just like you did on the above screen.

Under "Categories" select Contacts, now put a check in the option to "Syncronize this category", in the drop down box select "MS Outlook 2000/2002...... - Contacts" and hit Apply.

Now select Calendar and follow the same steps you did for Contacts, then apply and hit OK

Now hit the icon beside Synchronize Now.... let it run.

What if I already added like 50-75 contacts under Phone instead of Gmail contacts?
Is there a way for me to switch all of my contacts so that they are all Gmail contacts?
Or will I have to search through all of my contacts to find the 50 new ones and switch them one at a time?

THANKS!

I used an app called iCal Import/Export (free on the market) to export my calendar (and contacts?) from phone to a file, then copied the file to my PC and imported into Google.

Then I disabled and/or deleted my phone contacts and/or calendar somehow to avoid duplicates.

There may be some clues in my earlier posts:

Go to your contacts, hit menu->Import/Export. Hit export to SD card. It will ask you which contacts to export. Hit Phone. Once they are exported, you can go to menu and hit view. Select only phone contacts and delete them all. Next, go to menu->Import/Export again and select import. Select Google, and voila! they are all Google contacts now. Small caution, I'm not sure if contact pictures survive this process or not.

Hope that helps! :)
