I think I text too much?

Well I think I text too much for the Hero. For one person, I've hit 5,000 messages, and with everyone else I text, I'm at about 10,000 messages stored in my phone. I guess this is why my phone has been slow to do simple things like change screens, so I'm trying to delete the 5,000 message thread. How ever, when I hit delete thread, the phone acts like I did nothing and I can't tell what it's doing. When I try and delete one message at a time, it force closes. Any idea what I can do?

i had this problem today when i realized me and my gf's convosation was almost at 1000 texts and it kept freezing when i tried to delete it. my solution was going into the manage applications menu in the phones settings and going into messaging and selecting "clear data" and it deleted all convosations right away but it also resets the messaging settings but all i had changed was the sound and that took a second to change back

Thanks, guys. I tried the clearing data thing and it didn't work. That may be because I installed Handcent, though. Since I began using Handcent, my phone handles the 5k with no problem. How ever tonight I ran into another issue, but I think it might be Sprint. My phone won't send messages, and I get a text saying "Message could not be delivered due to network set up error"

Maybe try clearing the data under handcent then.

I don't think it has anything to do with Sprint. My Hero (on Sprint of course, this *is* the Sprint section for the Hero... lol), suddenly decided not to send texts anymore, giving that same exact error, exactly 2 hours ago. One minute I was sending texts perfectly fine, and then suddenly it was throwing that error at me. I did nothing with any apps, and I certainly don't have Handcent installed.

When it doesn't give me that message (which arrives via "9230"), I get an error message saying "SMS Termination Denied" upon trying to send a message. No idea what's causing the issue, but it's getting annoying. I get the impression I'm not receiving texts either (haven't tried texting myself yet, but I'm certain I should've received texts from a few people by now). I guess we'll have to see what happens, eh?
