Root What are you favorite ROMs?

Ha ha...I suppose you are right. He is pretty good about updates. When I say "disappointed", I mean it in the kindest sense of the word. I would obviously much rather have such a good ROM all the time over cycling through a bunch of mediocre ones.

Yeah i know what you meant lol... I was the same way but i got stuck on Myns too. It was love at first "flash"
rofl that just sounds wrong

Well.....I'm on Frost right now and it seems pretty darn stable and gives me good battery life using the collin battery tweak. I'm addicted to flashing and have several nandroid backups. I've using the following:

Fresh
Frost
Baked Snacks
MIUI
CM
Calkulin
Myn
OMJ
Virus
Damaged

Out of this long list....I tend to stick with the ones that get updated and have active threads running. It's all a matter of preference...so flash away!

:D

hey guys, Im downloading MIUI (v0.12.11-rc1) , i just rooted my evo and Im running CM 6.1, my question is : once Ive rooted my evo, do I install any custom rom the same way I installed CM? please help friends.

When I loaded CM 6.1 on my phone I had to format my SD card with RA recovery. This was after I backed up everything on the card and phone. I can't remember if it was BC of the kernel I was using or the cm rom. Might want to search YouTube for a cm walkthrough.

As the name implies this is a STOCK Sense UI based ROM, all sprint apps installed, stock wallpapers, boot, animations & transitions, etc. It's just had the framework, & caches TWEAKED for speed, very stable, & very fast. Has an HTC kernel included, again stock.

There is a new version available as of 12/20/2010 based on the 3.70 OTA RUU, which comes with HTC #15 kernel. No mods to the SD required, other than putting the ROM in the root of the SD card for flashing. As always, wipe data, cache, & dalvik caches before flashing, I personally wipe each 3 times before flashing a new ROM. Amon Ra v1.8.0 recovery is HIGHLY recommended by the Dev. over ClockWorkMod.

I am personally running RicSim78's other ROM Azreal X v3.0, on the stock HTC #15 kernel, extremely fast & smooth, i.e. custom tweaked, & LOVE it!!!

Well I've tried out Myns for a while and although I liked the speed of the ROM, the theme didn't work out so well to my liking and I absolutely hate the Google search widget that's black and green, it didn't go with any of the wallpaper I liked using.

I'm using fresh 3.5 now and I love it, very stock feel with subtle themes changes like the launcher. Can't go wrong with Fresh :)

Like Myn's a lot, but changed to Azrael 2.1. It's really quick, but certain things are beginning to disappear on me, like the lockscreen and temperature in the notification bar. I actually kind of like the lockscreen going away though.

Cyanogen is cool, didn't care for MIUI at all

Why not MIUI? I had rooted my EVO back when it was still 2.1 and I really wanted 2.2 I screwed up my phone and never rooted again. Now that I see MIUI beta 5 coming I was half thinking about rooting again.

I've also gathered (since I haven't been in the rooting scene for a while) that the recent updated EVO's can be rooted via the Unrevoked method just yet... or is that old news. I believe my hboot (am I saying that right) is 2.10..... (only paid attention too the first numbers) I'm worried that I'll screw up me phone again.

My understanding is that I only need to wipe my device, follow the unrevoked method to root and I'm rooted. Once rooted, is it a must to flash a custom rom and a kernel as well (I understand flashing roms is optional, I simply mean if I chose to... is it a must).

HAPPY NEW YEAR Phandroid!!!!! Sorry to get long winded, but I figured why not ask someone that

I am not tech savvy at all, so rooting was a big leap of faith for me. I did it for free tethering (ipad) and becasue I was getting tired of stock sense. I got my evo on launch day but just rooted 8 or 9 days ago.

I first tried zone23's christmas red rom and liked it okay but I wanted something different. I've been using miui for 3-4 days now and after flashing a stable kernel, I love it.

I'm not sure when I'll try another rom but I feel like I almost have to try myn and cyanogen at some point.

I'm enjoying the MIUI Rom 12.24 ... love the change to the UI, missing 4G, don't like the camera app. The music player and dialer are excellent... So far my favorite ROM. I'd just like to know if I need a different kernel or is the Rom enough.

I'm using salvage kernel but I'm not sure how much of a difference it is over the stock.

I still have issues with downloading/sending MMS, uploading a picture to Facebook over the air, and still get FC's here and there.

And I don't like the camera app so much either.

Overall, I like the Rom because it's very fluid and I find that I'm much quicker and navigating the OS and communicating with it overall. it's just issues like these that keep pulling me to more stable roms.

Also, the battery isn't as good as it was back on 11.19.

idk, I'm either really picky or I'm just not a big enough fan of android to stick with one rom. It's like there's some annoying issue with EVERY single one.

It's like:

- Reliable
- Fast
- Great Battery

Choose two.

I agree; however I do like android because I can root and mess around, but I just don't know what Rom has it all.... I wish someone here with a bit more knowledge then myself (I'm a hair above being a noob.... I guess that still makes me a noob...)

Please make a Rom Thread. List the Rom's that are out there and the Radio's / Kernels and so on needed to make it stable and fast.... Right now I feel more of us are not rooting because there just isn't enough information out there regarding what Rom is best with What Kernel / Radio or if you even need to flash a new Kernel or Radio or what have you..... Could a rooting Vet please be kind enough to make such a list? Thanks for the support guys!

Anyone try miui rom?

Yes...

I only flashed the Rom 12.24 rom from Rom manager.

[Pro's.......]

New UI, feels a bit like Galaxy / iphone mix but you can tell it still has it's Android roots..

You can rearrange home screens

Music Player and Dialer look great

[Boarder line....]

No app drawer, all apps are out in the open much like the iphone; however that doesn't mean you can't create folders to place apps in and that doesn't mean you can't rearrange apps (also like the iphone) and add the widgets you like

[Con's.....]

Camera app is very ugly

Reception seems to be weak

Battery life is lost quicker

No 4G

Understand that this is by no means a comprehensive list. I'm only trying to share what I can so that your decision process may gain the help it needs. I would very much appreciate it if we could gain a Rom Thread and what radio's / kernels work best to maintain good battery, stability... and so on... Anyone out there up for the challenge? I'm too new at this otherwise I would, anything to aid my Phandroid community.

Why? I rooted my phone a few days ago and decided on MIUI only becuase I liked what I saw in the beta 5 video. I find my 3G reception isn't as good as it was on my stock 2.2 Sence (prior to rooting) and battery life seems to be dwindling faster than I care for... Why is Myn's the Rom for you?

I've tried a decent amount of ROM's (Cyanogen, Azrael, Fresh, Damage Control, etc.) and always find myself going back to Myn's. Myn is very attentive to detail and listens with both ears when feedback or requests are given. It's fast, stable (I have yet to experience a FC with it), and practical....Not to mention out of all the Sense based ROM's I've tried, Myn's has the most mods available, so you can customize it to fit YOU and your needs. As for battery life, I couldn't ask for more. I'm using Myn's RLS5 nightly w/ Netarchy 4.3 cfs more havs w/o SBC (before the 4.3 update I was using the kernel in my sig.) and can easily get 36-48 hours off the charger with moderate use (with light use I can get nearly 72 hours). I don't see myself changing ROM's anytime soon.

Does MMS / SMS, 4G, Video / Camera and all that other good stuff work?
