Help VNC from my PC to my Droid

I found a bunch of programs that let my droid connect to my computer through RDP but none of them mentioned if they were servers for accessing the droid from the PC. There was a $9.99 app that looked like it may do it but I'm wondering what you guys think.

What's the best way to browse on my droid through my PC. I have a unique setup. I am using PDAnet so the phone is further away, and I would have to get up every time I want to reconnect my droid or search for apps. Thanks!

AndriodVNC as the client on your Droid(free)...

then any VNC server for your pc... i use TightVNC (free, open source).

VNC does not use rdp... but is free and open source.

Thanks for the help. I'll try AndroidVNC. I used to use tightVNC until I found out that vista blocks it completely because it doesn't have authentication information or something stupid. They cracked down on certain process accesses or something. I think TightVNC still works as a viewer, just the server portion won't let you connect. AFAIK

Thanks. I'm going to go try it out. I hope it doesn't conflict with PDAnet. :D If it does I'll come back.

Well I just loaded up the program and I think you guys misunderstood me. I'm not trying to control my PC from my droid; I'm trying to control my droid from my PC.

AndroidVNC doesn't seem like it has any server capabilities and from DanSan's description it seems like phonemyPC is the same thing. I appreciate the help, but it seems like there isn't an app out there for me yet.

To give you an example: SOTI Pocket Controller Pro for Windows Mobile is what I'm looking for, it's just the wrong operating system. :D

i'm using tight on vista64 no prob.
edit: Cool I'll see if it's working now. I was experiencing problems months ago. I guess the author got it figured out.

oh! lol.

yeah, i haven't really looked into that so i'm of no use to you! :D the one thing i know of that lets you do anything remotely is this http://androidforums.com/android-applications/28576-moto-phone-portal.html ...and that would be from within a LAN.

Thanks man I really do appreciate it. What I'm basically trying to do is control my droid from within a LAN, but I need a distinct interface. Something like TightVNC so I can get screenshots, and If I get disconnected from PDAnet I don't want to have to walk into the other room and push the buttons lol. It sounds lazy, but... yeah it's lazy. I'll just get up every time I get disconnected! lol

as far as screen shots go... there are only a few ways atm to my knowledge... you might have to wait awhile or put some heavy requests in.

-root your phone... then u can use 3rd party aps for screen shots...

-android sdk and usb... you can take screen shots this way...

-home++... main screen replacement, lets you take screen shots of the home screens only....

Yeah I got Open Home. Lets me change the camera button into a screenshot button. Kind of cool, accept for those annoying side-buttons (for search and favorites) that I can't seem to get rid of.

i'm not a big fan of the ahome and openhome replacements, can't help ya there...

good luck on remotely controlling the droid... if you have success you should start a new thread regarding your finds! I would be interested in something like that myself.

.............oh... it just dawned on me... check into EventGhost.org and their apps on Androlib.... they have a few options for remote control/launching.. i use it the other way to trigger events from my phone to my pc and x10 systems... the dev was nice and responsive to requests for the apps as well.

i use PhoneMyPC..

its probably the one ur mentioning and it works great. allows you to get live screenshots of your pc, interact control of it. only problems ive had is sometimes its difficult to click on a desktop icon or scroll. turning down the quality makes it run a lot better
What about controlling your phone from your PC?

That's what I need until I figure out the tricks of touchscreen navigation (The hard job) & can get a better keyboard than the one that comes with the OS (The easier job of the two from what I hear)

Cheers :D
