Root GAOSP Froyo Nightly Builds

Also, something weird happened to me TWICE already and it hasn't been a whole day. The phone simply seemed to shut itself off, nothing was responding and it wouldn't even boot. I had to remove the battery and then boot it. Regular occurrences on GAOSP?

I notice a couple of people have reported this over on Drakaz' forum, and that's the reason I haven't switched to GAOSP yet. I was thinking this would be the version that did it too.

I don't know if the fixes bundle from Obi fixes that issue though.

Well, I can say that that fix in reality fixed that problem. So no more unexpected phone lock. :p

Regarding a question from DaSchmarotzer regarding themes.
Weird I have 4 theme to choose from CyangenMod (a real mystery indeed). This 4 themes are as followed: stock (white), stock_black, gingerbread, and Animsense (I installed this one in the previous build) - CyangenMod>User interface> Tweaks extras
Also in User interface you can experiment with notifications, weird thing I don't have that CyangenMod thingy when I pull notification bar down (instead i have == - something similar to that).

Anyway, enjoy playing thru it and make your transition from Galaxo to GAOSP be without problems. We're all glad you came to the darkside. Enjoy! :p

Next thing: there are so many customization options in cyanogenmod config, it's hard to find what I want. I started by applying the Gingerbread Theme from Frojd, but then the notification bar was too black to my liking so I decided to lighten it up a bit. But after modifying a few things, I realized that the Handle from the drop down notification tray is a Cyanogen logo, is there a way to change that? Also that tray has no transparency, do I have to create my own theme or is there an option to add transparency?
If you only tick the "Custom notification bar" checkbox it should only change the bar, not the notifications pulldown bar (separate option underneath). The tray has no transparency in my latest version of the theme, I will probably bring it back in the next release.
Next, I'd like to change the color of the text notifications from the notification bar (not from the big drop-down notification tray).
I think that should be "Notifications ticker color" and "Notifications count color".
And last (for now...), I'd like to be able to save my custom theme in the cyanogen options. When I do that, nothing seems to happen and when I select "Load a theme", there is only one (which I'm guessing is the Gingerbread theme I downloaded, but I can't read it because it's written in white on a white background... am I missing something?).
I've seen this myself some times, it got back to normal after I backed out from setting and looked again. :)

I've been using the new build, the strange shut-down bug is gone. (EDIT: I withdraw that comment, just happened to me. Turning the wifi off will fix it.)

I've also solved most of my issues, if not all (I still think it's weird that some features are gone from the stock SMS app...). Thanks to all of those who replied. :D

Here are screenshots of my new GAOSP setup, I like it! From left to right:

In fact I already created a theme. I wanted to modify the Gingerbread theme so it would work on the latest nightly, but I don't want to steal credit, so I created my own. It only changes notification icons and the black "handlebar" from the notification tray. Seeing that those are minor changes, I didn't want to create a thread just for that, but thought that some of you might be interested (probably not).

Here's a screenshot of the new handlebar, the Cyanogen logo was annoying:

Already installed it. Thanks man
And what widget is that calendar and weather thing?
Looks nice. Like the blue :p

1215. ;)

I'm using Launcher pro: the calendar widget and the SMS widget both came with it.

The Weather/clock widget is from FancyWidgets pro.

Also, here is the background:

For your Launcher Pro Widgets, how did you make the background clear/invisible, I can't seem to adjust the colour with my widgets as its always black with little opaque

You'd have to theme the application. As in open the .apk, edit image files, sign it and then install it.

I'd share it with you, but it's a paid application so it is against the forum rules.

I meant the blue of the icons :D i got a nicer background hehe ;) imo at least.
You should post it on drakaz since people are dying for a ginger theme on this new nightly and Frojd is busy this days. Talk to him first anyway.

What's your background then? :p

I do visit the Drakaz forums, but I'd much rather have everything here. IMO there wasn't even a need for another forum, Drakaz simply decided to close the comments from the GAOSP page and start a forum/website. Before that, he would post his stuff here and it had been working just fine.

Great!

USB NDIS tethering works perfectly. Instant connection without any hassle, be it wifi or 3G sharing. Overall the performance seems smoother. Battery life remains to be seen, but it wasn't bad in the earlier nightlies, 2-4 days depending on data/wifi usage (I keep sync on all the time). 2D gallery finally works from the camera app. 3D gallery is simply too heavy for this device, although I miss its ability to show Picasa albums.

I'll have a go tweaking various settings (compcache, swap, clocks) and see what happens.

Great work everyone who made this possible. Huge thanks. And with the Galaxy Updater installing is a breeze!

I just updated to latest nightly and now the market doesn't work. When I try to download an app or do an update to a built in app it just keeps switching between "downloading..." and "Download Paused" but never downloads it. :-(

Are you attempting to download from the Market while on wifi or on 3G? I had noticed from your info that you're a Bell customer as well, and I have had this issue before. If you're connected to 3G, then you have to tweak your APN settings a little bit. Make sure that your proxy port is set to 80, rather than the empty setting that resides there. If you're on wifi, then sure that the box next to "Enable proxy on wifi" is checked in the Wireless & Network Settings menu. If those are set, and you've restarted (trust me on this, sometimes all you really needed was a power cycle) then you should be back in business and downloading apps like a champ. :)

Funny you mention that. Every time (and I do mean EVERY ), I change roms, the port setting is the one thing that doesn't seem to be saved. Everything else is there. At least its predictable !
