Wow, I just picked up my brand spanking new Nexus S and it seems I'm heavily dependent on the voice alerts to be alerted about anything.

It has no whatsoever LED indicators for charging, notifications or anything else.

Basically if I put my phone on silent and turn Vibrate off, there is no way in knowing I have something waiting on my phone until & unless I check it. Basically the push notifications become useless.

I am just amazed of how Google & Samsung could miss such a huge feature. Okay I understand the trackball was useless and not needed (even though now I'm noticing how helpful it was in editing text) but c'mon they could have included a SMALL LED just to let know if the phone was on charge or made that same LED for multiple purposes so it would blink if I had any notification on my phone.

I'm on a 30 day period right now and I might be returning this. I am still giving it time so maybe I get used to it because Im sure all the Google Executives using this phone need PUSH notification too and if they hadnt noticed it, maybe ill stop noticing it too now.

Not sure, but it wouldnt have hurt having this feature. Such a small feature which is even included in dumbphones. Just bummed out a little.

3G seems to work very fast though, not sure how. It zooms compared to the Nexus One.

This is something that is pretty prevalent in the "S" line, Vibrants don't have one either. In fact, if I'm not mistaken no "S" does except the Fascinate. One poster over on the Vibrant forums speculates it is the carriers doing more than Samsung's. You kind of get used to it, and if I really need to, I just turn down the ringer volume but keep notification volume up (get Quick Settings to easily modify this setting).

The no LED complaint to me, IN MY OPINION is a bit silly. Your Nexus S will vibrate and have a notification sound as well as these 2 things happening for reminders. As one poster mentioned there are even apps on the market to remedy this.

With Handscent (Which I use on all of my Android phones) You can set the screen to turn on with an incoming message or reminder.
Seriously I do not miss the LED at all, it is nice to have but not a necessity. Besides now there is one less thing to malfunction.

How do you know when the phone is done charging if there is no LED indicator?

My Girlfriend's Vibrant makes an annoying beep and the screen lights up. It's a nice touch, considering most people charge their phones at night while sleeping. I'm not sure what I'd do if my phone didn't rudely wake me up to let me know it was done charging...

Oh, and if you use it at all while it's plugged in after it has charged completely, it thinks the battery has drained slightly and charges it back up, causing the annoying notification to sound.

I see, I'll have to pay attention, I think I was sleeping when that happened and didn't hear it. The trackball notification was nice but not necessary as I've noticed the sound notifications are more than adequate. I think when you have the phone plugged in and you push the power button, it shows you the % it is charged.

Um...I just tried out NoLED. Does anyone else have the issue of the screen turning off a second after NoLED shows the notification? I've gone through the settings and don't see a way to prolong this. The Timeout is already set to never in the app, so I'm assuming this is an Android OS issue.

EDIT: Okay, oddly if I turned the Blink function off, it doesn't turn the screen off after a second.

I rely on LED, when you're in a noisy area and can't hear the chime and don't always feel the vibration then you could just look at the device to see if the light is flashing or such, that's what I do without having to turn the display on I can tell if I have a message waiting.

what i really miss is using the led button for the camera!

Yeah no dedicated camera button is an annoyance but a minor one specially when taking self portraits.

I typically just press the virtual button and turn the phone around and let it go once I'm ready for the shot.

Didnt even know I could have used the trackball on my N1 as a camera key. Oh well...
