Root I'm back! Nice to see some familiar faces!

That's OMJ, Inssane, and the whole lot of you. after 2 months being away from an android phone (broke my Droid Incredible) I got a Droid 2. Rooted, Bootstrapped, and downloading fission 2.3.1. Any suggestions before I take the dive?

Definitely not anywhere near the D1 scene. Screwed up the fission rom install and I don't think I'm gonna try rooting on this one. Maybe someone might want to trade my D2 for an Inc.

It wasn't a hard process for me. I just used z4root and it was all done for me. I think there are enough advantages of having root even if you don't install a ROM. My roommate has a DInc and I would take my D2 over that

Much agreed. My z4root went very smoothly and I recommend and back the rooting process.

Yeah, this phone is different. I have had to sbf a handful of times already for various reasons, only had to do it once with the D1.

Make sure to do things in the right order and per the dev's recommendation. This is most important. The "mount" and "unmount" in CW recovery is new compared to D1 (not sure about Inc.) Just have the bootstrap and Z4 Root apks in a saved email so they can be accessed easily when and if you need it when you load a new ROM.

Root - Bootstrap - and follow instructions -- also know how to sbf just in case.

To get you up to speed, Fission is nice, but Fab's latest Apex is nice, as I enjoy the phone blur and his has it. UD should be going into RC3 soon, but RC2 is a hot mess, so seeing what was in it and not being able to use it at all is rough, but something to look forward to.

I, and others, have run a coupld DX ROMs with only a few crippled effects, such as the hardware keyboard not working properly.

For the most part you can do the entire process through your phone, no need for a computer, download z4root off of a website (I used 4share and searched it) and just root it that way, then do the same thing for the Fission ROM manager. I did it all in about 10 minutes and didn't need to hook up to the computer. The only issue I had was some themes you cant download through your phone cause the links are weird.

Yea thats what i did for the themes haha. I feel like using a computer or anything that involves you messing with files by hand leaves room for too much error

Is there a way to unroot via Mac OS X?

Z4 gives you an unroot option directly from the phone, once you are rooted.
I have not tried it though.
