Replacing HTC sense dialer with standard dialer

I used to have a normail Android phone with the standard dialer app, and I liked it much better. Now I got a droid incredible, and I don't like the dialer. Not to mention it doesn't have favorites! (the standard dialer app has favorites that automatically gets populated based on who you call)

Is there a way to replace the HTC sense dialer with the standard dialer app? Do I need to root the phone or something?

On a related note, why are android phone manufacturers so stupid?

I tried the free version of Launcher Pro, and no, it still goes to the HTC dialer

I just installed Dialer One, I really like it, though it doesn't look like it has favorites either.

Not to mention it doesn't have favorites! (the standard dialer app has favorites that automatically gets populated based on who you call)

It has a favorites widget you can put on a homescreen. Also when you hit phone it gives you a list of most recent calls which would/should be your most contacted people "based on who you call".

I use Takephone and found it superior to the Android dialer.
