Fool me twice... The truth - Samsung is a FRAUD

Hacked-up ROMs based upon either different hardware or beta/developer releases are not substitutes for reasonable and promised support by the company. Not every consumer is a hardware hacker, not ever consumer is going to be comfortable with the work and risks involved, and nor should they be expected (like so many people do) to "just flash a hacked ROM or else STFU".

And all of these hacked-up ROMs have some bugs/issues. They are not bug/problem free... even if you personally have not been affected by the issues. Try doing some reading and see what the mass statistics on a grander scale are instead of assuming your little personal anecdotal experience applies to the whole world.

If you want to just insult everyone who doesn't flash a hacked ROM, go hang out at XDA as that is the SOP there. Here, we cater to people who like to use their phones with the software supplied/intended... and there's nothing wrong with that.

You know what man no one insulted anyone !!!!!! So what is your problem?

Take a chill pill dude just as i am for flashing obviously you are against it!!!

Sounds to me like you have had a bad experience or something with flashing your phone cause you are way to irate to just be offering an opinion. Your response sounds very personal. Anyway like I said no one insulted anyone so quit being a douche!!!!

>>> Op was just trying to stir up trouble. Still only has one post.

It does read like it's from one of our former disgruntled forum members.

Haha you both are probably right. Doesn't make what he had to say any less true. I mean, the cycle has already repeated itself so many times, I thought the Galaxy S would be different since it was such a huge release but I've been "fooled"!

dude the problem came when someone was venting about a update and then the post got turned to "its your own fault if you dont flash your phone" kind of crap. Read my phone profile under my avatar. Whats it say? Claims that there are no bugs in roms are YOUR individual experience and not the same as the five guys sayin they are getting bluetooth noise and having modem issues. Pick any page of the 1100 plus pages on the cog forum and there are plenty of issues. Perception is still having charge death issues, I can keep going. Now, I am not saying these roms are not good, they are AWESOME, but it does not RELIEVE samsung of the responsibility to get phone updates out. I have flash player on my phone, but should not have to flash my phone to get it when every other device in America has it. I agree the above post sounds a little harsh but the same way some people start sayin "stop crying about updates and flash" there are alot of people that dont want to mod their phone and are tired of hearing people like us say "just flash a rom". Its not even fair to say it. My mother inlaw wants flash on here phone, you want to try to explain to a 60 year old woman how to flash a rom? OH and explain how it will void her warranty if she does. Give me a break man if you cant see that this phone should be updated on PRINCIPAL then I dont know what else to say.

omg you are sooooo right i have been running perception since release #4

I am on 8 now and have no issues what so ever

I was afraid of flashing at first but once i tried it i realized what I had been missing. It is so easy and painless I don't even think i would use an official update anyway

like he said you want Froyo go get it !!!!

And BTW did you really use the "OMG" in a post?

MODS: Why don't you make a single thread, "Official: Piss and Moan about the Captivate" and start merging these threads? Every few days, we get a new thread, from a new member, telling us how much he loves his Captivate, but... blah, blah, blah. Then the same people, in all the other threads, crying about the same things, over and over again.

Trust me... it works.

I feel obligated to point out that Samsung never made any promise to release anything by any given deadline. Look at what they said:

In the USA we are working with carrier partners to release Froyo this year.

https://twitter.com/SamsungMobileUS/status/28050721691

That is not a definitive statement, as in, "We will release Froyo in the USA by December 31, 2010." It is a very open statement, as in, "We are working on it, but it's a two-sided coin and depends heavily on your carier (and between the lines we are making no guarantees, but feel free to spread rumors about this post on forums to keep customers interested in our product)."

It doesn't make me super happy with Samsung, but you can't sue a company for not delivering a product that they never "technically" said they would.

I guess when buying Samsung products in the future, if I'm not 100% satisfied out of the box, it's not really worth it.

As a side note, Google will definitely keep the Nexus S up to date as long as it can run the latest release, so I think our best bet for the future will be cooked ROMs ported over. Less than ideal, but something to look forward to nonetheless.

"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."
I say, amen to the OP. There was no end to my frustration with this phone. As someone who finally MOVED ON to an HTC Incredible, I am kicking myself for not doing so sooner. I can't tell you how nice it is to click on Google Maps and have it perform flawlessly and with pinpoint GPS accuracy -- no lame apologies, no fruitless tinkering with settings, no trying to "settle" for spotty, intermittent locationing, no having to be "patient" waiting..waiting..waiting..because someone somewhere heard someone say we might get this or that sometime...

It's like being in a relationship, living in denial that your S.O. will change...and then when you finally move on you realize you didn't have to put yourself thru all that.

I agree, I would be extremely reluctant to buy another Samsung.

I agree with respect to this froyo debacle. Froyo is an operating system. The phone came with an operating system (eclair), and I do not recall Samsung promising an uprgrade to froyo, within a certain time frame no less, being part of the marketing of the phone. Eclair works fine, it's just not the latest and greatest.

I bought a samsung captivate just like everyone else here. I did not buy froyo. While this whole froyo thing has been a disater for samsung among tech people, I doubt the majority of captivate users know or care about what is going on.

However, Samsung did promise gps on this phone. It seems well settled that the gps does not work as promised. If there is a basis for a class action suit, I would assume it would focus on the gps and not froyo.

Actually, @SamsungEstabon and @GalaxySsupport as well as many direct questions/quotes from the launch event back in the summer, all said "this year." Sorry but 2011 is not semantically or even legally "this year" (it would have been "within a year" if that were the case); but you are correct in your later post- legal action would hinge upon the "real" damage suffered by individuals that paid for a working GPS (advertised and on box, and not A-GPS), and I would argue that those that subscribe to AT&T Navigator stand the best chance as that is a service they are paying for monthly, and represents a second "real" damage.

P.S. "real" is in quotes not out of sarcasm or anything of the sort; in this case "real" is a legal term meaning suffering monetary and performance damage.

Ooooooo K.

The posts in this thread have managed to break quite a few rules regarding staying on-topic and being polite and attacking issues instead of each other.

The bad news is that I happen to have the time to hand out infractions to all concerned.

The good news is that in the spirit of the season - I'm giving you all a walk with this public warning.

Your takeaway is - I consider you all warned. If I find the arguments carried impolitely to another thread, I'll respond accordingly.

I'm sure that neither you nor I need that kind of noise - so cool down, go forth from this thread and be excellent to each other.
