Best Buy Screwed me again...

Best Buy has been an absolute nightmare to work with. To begin with, the store near me only got 10 Nexus S's in stock, so despite being 7th in line that morning, I didn't get one.

So I resorted to an online order. For some unknown ridiculous reason, it was requiring me to add a data plan, even though the line already had one. I was concerned about being charged twice for data, so I called support. Support assured me that I wouldn't be charged twice and that it was just a default thing that had to be added. If my account already had data, it wouldn't be changed. The activation fee was also listed as $35 when it should have been $18. Support again said that it was just a default message and I would be charged the right amount.

So I made the order. The next day, I find out that my T-Mobile account has not only been charged a $35 activation fee, but I'm also paying an additional $30/mo for data I already have. I'm currently in the process of having that sorted out.

To make matters worse, I just received an e-mail from Best Buy stating that my Nexus S is backordered and won't arrive until sometime after Christmas, EVEN THOUGH THE ORDER PAGE SAID GUARANTEED CHRISTMAS DELIVERY ON THIS ITEM. The store page actually STILL says it. I called support and they told me that my only options were to wait or cancel the order (which already ****ed my T-Mobile account).

I really do hate Best Buy...

Yeah, Best Buy does suck! I do not understand it, If this phone is supported by T-Mobile why not sell it there or at least let you order it through them? Has Google learned nothing from the Nexus One?

Why limit yourself to one retailer? It should be available for purchase or at least order at Beast Buy, Wal-Mart and T-mobile, maybe Radio Shack too.

I called, emailed, online chatted and went into Best Buy as well as the 'Nexus S help line on the site 2 days before launch to check on in store availability.

Needless to say I never got the same answer, the answers ranged from no we won't have it in store to definitely to what is the Nexus S? LOL. After over 6 hours of trying to get an answer I called complaints.

Even after I pointed the complaints MANAGER to several press releases he could give me no answer and got smart with me!

WORST BUY FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!! Also I like how they try to push the black tie insurance. If you paid on a credit card (I did not) most credit cards will take care of a myriad of problems including theft!

Also State Farm and a lot of other insurers will cover the retail value of your devise for around $40 a YEAR!

The first time I called about the $30/mo data add-on, the support chick was like "That's because you have regular data and the Nexus S is a 4G phone."

I was like "Uhh...are you sure? I'm pretty sure it's not." Plus, after looking into it, T-Mobile doesn't differentiate between their 4G and 3G data. It's all on the same plan.

Totally clueless. I used to run a cell store and I love tech. I know a lot about all phones and carriers. Yet every-time I apply online to my local T-Mo store I get the response that I do not have the necessary skills to work there! LOL I owned my own business for 11 years and was a partner and manager of a cellular store!

When I go to my local T-Mobile store they have 3 girls there who don't know the difference between CDMA and GSM and I am not kidding

Yeah best buy is screwing me too. I added the $10 200mb data plan and when they finished processing it 2 days after placing it, I see a receipt saying that the package I have is the unlimited package. I was gonna call but luckily I was supposed to get unlimited anyways. I couldn't believe it took 2 days to process though I thought it would be 1 day and then shipped that same day. I mean the first e-mail they sent me show an ETA of the 16th and I ordered early 8am on release day. Then 2nd day got a track number was supposed to have it Saturday but its signature required and I wasn't home so UPS is to try again Monday before 10:30am. I can't wait to play with this phone though.

Well, I called around and found a Best Buy that still had some in stock about 1.5 hours away. I had them put one on hold and I drove out to get it. Purchasing it actually went very smoothly. I wasn't sure if having put in an order already would make the line ineligible for an upgrade, but it didn't seem to be a problem. I was also able to get them to fix the double data charge and take off the $35 activation.

Now, I went home and tried to cancel my online order only to find out it's not letting me cancel it, lol. I have my phone now, so I'm happy. As long as they don't try to charge me full price for the online order, I really don't care how they handle it. Who knows, maybe I'll get a second Nexus S at the subsidized rate, lol.

Statefarm? is this something I can add anytime and it be valid?? all I need is a year and that's cheaper than t-mo's Premium handset protection.

Well. it's your prerogative to do something like this.. But I would not be calling the complaints department and demanding to speak to a manager prior to actually being a customer. Yes you have done your homework, and you know what "should be" happening at your local store.. but really, all you are trying to do is save some gas and time by not going to the store yourself.. And then let's say you were to get an answer (that you wanted to hear) and things didn't turn out exactly as your phone conversation, you'd be back on the phone to the complaints manager.. Of course I don't know your whole story, but nothing you wrote would cause me to be annoyed enough to warrant wasting the complaint departments, or a managers time.. In trying to save time (yours that is more valuable), and getting frustrated doing it.. you have wasted more of your time, in making phone calls and complaints.. and didn't solve a thing..

What made me call the complaints dept. were a few things. A. 2 days before a launch I should not have to make over 10 calls be put on hold for 25 minuets and still not get an answer.
Also I guess you missed the part where I said I also went into the store. :)

Employees, especially ones in the mobile department should be educated about product launches and info. After all that is what they get paid for.

B.When you try to get this information employees should not cop an attitude with you and talk toy you like you are making it up! Believe me even though I called complaints I was very polite and it was more of a "I think you should know how your employees acted such."

There were other reasons also but hey If I am going to buy two phones for $529.99 + tax each then I do expect the employees to be knowledgeable friendly and treat me and my questions with a bit of respect. ;)

the state farm PAP (personal article policy) is awesome (I had my nexus one, and 2 laptops covered). You have to have paid over $400 to have it covered though, so if you buy the phone subsidized, it won't work. no deductible. I had my wifes macbook replaced after the battery stopped working, and the CD/DVD drive broke after a drop. They cover pretty much everything except 'it just stopped working'. In other words, if you break it, lose it (I think), it gets stolen, etc, they will cover. I pay like $4 per month for all 3 devices to be insured.

Try getting Statefarm homeowners insurance to insure a phone you paid Less than $200 for for the replacement cost which is likely $600+ that includes accidental damage. I highly doubt they will do it.

Thanks for your input but I paid $529.99 + tax for it :) Also I used State Farm as an example. There are many other insurance options you can use that are cheaper than Best Buy's, Asurion's or The Signal ( the last two are third party insurers that are used by most at cellular providers)

One would be that if you purchased your device with a credit card many of them will cover it without you even knowing so check into it. I worked in the cellular industry for a while and actually owned a store so I know a little about a little. ;)

Could you elaborate what you mean by cover?

If your device is found to be defective it will be covered. With some cards depending on their policies you can also receive a check for the FULL RETAIL AMOUNT if your device is lost or stolen, even broken or damaged (but this one may be subject to a time frame).

Also it does not matter if you paid a subsidized price for the phone. Most insurances, i.e, State Farm or whom ever else you may use will reimburse you for the VALUE of the device since you probably can't replace it for the subsidized price again. Thank you drive through :)

If the phone is defective it is covered by the manufacturers warrantee. If a credit card paid for damaged or lost phones that would be something special. Can you cite a specific one that actually does this? The policy on my card is as follows:

If you pay for your cell phone AND pay the monthly bill with the same card, your phone is "covered" under the credit card's insurance. Except: Only up to $250 and a $50 deductable. Does not cover lost or stolen, or phones damaged by natural disasters such as floods, crushing etc...

Where did you find this info? I'm with Mastercard. Tried to look on my bank's website but couldn't find it.

I know about manufacturers warranties I used to own a cell phone store, as i have stated a million times. LOL. I am talking about after that time. I guess you missed the part in my post where I said you MAY BE COVERED FOR THE FULL AMOUNT DEPENDING ON POLICIES. Are you a politician because you sure do ignore pertinent parts of posts and misquote and or misconstrue a lot of things I have laid out in writing :p

Also your card may only cover you in those specific ways but other cards cover more. I am not citing specific cases but I know it has and can happen. I know Amex covers a lot of different scenarios I guess you can google it.

I am just offering information from experience to help others, but you seem hell bent on arguing or trying to discredit me. I get no special reward for trying to be helpful nor do I care if you feel the need to be right at my expense, I concede to your ultimate knowledge of all things. :)

MERRY CHRISTMAKWANZRAMADACHAUNAKBOXWINTERSOLSTNONDENOMINATIONAL DAY WEEK MONTH! to all and to all GOOD GREIF!

All the cards I have googled say their purchase protection only extends 90 days from purchase. I know of no credit card that insures cell phone purchases against accidental damage for more than 90 days; without an unreasonable deductable amount. You said they do; I'd love to know who. I'll go apply for the card today.

I thought before you said no card would cover damage? Now you say the will up to 90 days? Huh. Also the rest of what I said was about OTHER FORMS OF INSURANCE besides what Best Buy offers.

Remember when I said this?
