Root {ROM} Gingerbread-ReBakedv2!

Well, it makes sense that right now it is going to feel lightweight- not everything is working lol.

That's like saying Windows PE feels lighter than Windows - yeah, b/c it has things stripped out. Or that the CL in *nix is lighter than the over-bloated KDE - again, yeah, b/c it actually *is* lighter.

While I'm not dissing your choice to run the ROM, my questions were more on the basis of whether it was functional enough for daily use in 3 very distinct environments - general home use (as a very old beta tester as well as a curious kinda guy), academic use, in needing to look up things / research, check email, synchronize data, etc., and business use, as in keeping in touch with clients, being able to pull up data from the SDCard, etc.

You've pretty much answered my question, it is not the right time for me to foray into testing GB much as I want to, at least not until Christmas eve, when I'll have a lot more time ot play and a lot less to deal with from the other 2 environments.

How about apps? Are all your apps working (I ave like 125 apps installed, so...)

Yep all of my apps are working including the google apps. Maps works, but the previously stated GPS issue keeps it from working effectively. Also the apps that have been updated to work on GB work, but some devs haven't done it yet.... Tweetdeck for ex. isn't working on GB yet.....bummer.

I really want to try Bugless Beast, but I've sort of gotten use to the changes made....

Yeah, I just jumped on to LFY 1.96 recently myself, so I am just now experiencing a slightly smoother FroYo (since it is also FRG83D based, like BB 0.6), so it'll be easier for me to test BB, but I think I'll need more play time with AOSP-derived GB-based ROMs right now - I'll need some extensive time to test all of the normal functions that I use on a daily basis and see if something ain't working - but it won't do me any good to find out when I need it lol.

All things considered, though, I'm guessing that these issues won't be completely solved in the next 3 days, so I'll still get my chance to play Thursday nigh or Friday. :p

I agree in your case. In my case I have alternative phones. This line works through January then it's off, I'm using a Nexus S, so that kind of explains why I've gotten use to GB.

Glad you guys are enjoying what we have of Gingerbread to work with. All of the main issues including GPS, accelerometer, and USB are across the board with any of the attempts at Gingerbread that are out. Keep in mind, mine is the only one available at the moment that you get to boot in just one shot, without running it through nandroid or flashing a rom over another. ;) Kind of sad how I didn't get mentioned along with Steinman's and Neubanks, but oh well. I just make stuff for my own enjoyment, and if others like it too, all the better. :)

Dude you don't need the mentions and all that stuff to be good. Believe me we are more than thankful for your work bro. Trust your credit will come in due time. A lot of people do things for the credit.... you did this for yourself....keep that up, you'll be recognized way more bro. I appreciate you getting this working....

BTW....The Incredible is fully working with Gingerbread.....lol

I'm glad you guys have been enjoying what is there of the rom! I realize there are plenty of issues still, but luckily you understand they are out of my control. I'm just letting everyone know that, although I would LOVE to, I can't proceed anymore with this rom. For one, I'm not a dev, and haven't the slightest idea of how to build a rom. (However, I am installing Linux, and a kitchen to play around and try to learn) Also, the biggest limiting factor is that Gingerbread built from source must be compiled on a 64 bit machine, at least until there is some work around for it. Citation: Gingerbread in AOSP: some practical details - Android Building | Google Groups I don't have access to one, nor the funds to upgrade my meager set up. The main goal of this exercise was for fun and to show the devs that there is plenty of interest in this project, and that they should get on the ball! Until then...this is what we have to work with.

You've done the most of all Gingerbread builds that still aren't completely working....That says a lot by itself bro. I was gonna say send me the source code, but now that you mentioned the 64-bit, well it I better plan on upgrading my system soon. I'm considering the dell all-in-one....

I already have the Android SDK as well as am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. And since it is the holidays, I'll be at home a lot more than normal, so...

Which leads to an interesting question - I know that distributed computing is very easily possible in *nix (I cannot remember the actual package(s) I was looking at in Gentoo for simple distributed computing, like for kernel compilations on older machines), but if this can be easily figured out, I'll be more than willing to set up some sort of SSH daemon / virtual Box of Gentoo + SSHd so you can compile on this machine during non peak times (Of course, my machine is only a Core2Quad 6600 (OC'd to 3.2 GHz) with 4 GB of RAM, so it'd probably be better if I don't virtualize Gentoo under windows, and rather, dual boot....)

Now I'm really curious. B/c I have a professor at school who ordered a 32core (8 quad core AMD CPus) + 32 GB of RAM standalone server for a BioInformatics project - that is just sitting in his office right now. I already has RHEL 4 on it, too.....

Hmmmm.... :D:cool:

is this the most updated version? or is there a more recent one?

As far as we know, from es0tericcha0s, yes.

Hey guys. Yea, this is probably the most updated it is going to be. I can not compile from source (and really do not know how yet) so this is all I have to offer. I have been keeping my eye out and I haven't seen any other Motolora Gingerbread roms that have anything more to offer than this at this time, sadly enough. A lot of the issues revolve around hardware sensors, ie accelerometer. From what little I do understand of this, it's controlled by a driver called akmd. I have tried various ones from other builds/phones, but no luck. I am hoping there doesn't have to be some kind of Motorola specific thing to use here. The only respite I have to offer at this time is for the USB mount. There are a couple of apps in the Market such as Multi Mount SD (free / paid) or Dual Mount SD (paid) that offer widgets that can workaround mounting the SD card while the phone is not in recovery. The XDA member that got the DInc GB rom rocking has GScripts set up for this, but I tried it on my phone and it didn't work, although some of his scripts did. I might look into this later for shits and giggles, but at least the free Multi Mount widget works for now. Hope everyone has a Happy Holiday/Merry Christmas/etc, etc.

PS. The offer to use your computer to help compile is a very generous offer, one of which I would be more than happy to partake in. However, I really can't stress how much I don't know about how to build these things from scratch. I just managed to take the available parts that were lying around and whip them together. I've been tempted to practice with Froyo (and it would probably be smart to) however, it's hard not to resist the urge to run before I walk. LoL I'll keep it in mind though if something changes in the near future!

Well, I was starting to get to the point where I could attempt to compile, but it was using my roommates laptop. However, I just got home from vacation and I just moved, so had to give the laptop back to him. I didn't have time to save my stuff from it, so I need to start all over on my desktop. No reliable internet connection here yet though, and I am not even going to try to tether 2.1+ GB of info. LoL Once that gets worked out, I'll be on it again.
