Root Custom Rom - 3.70 - DONT USE THIS APP

May be a dumb question, but what do you mean it "breaks" 4g? Like it deletes the keys?

I don't mind the question.

What it does, when the user clicks to toggle the 4g on (whether with the widget or in the phones settings under wireless & Networks) the phone takes a moment as always to enable 4g.

Then, one of two things happens.
1. It will connect, but as soon as it obtains the IP, it will disconnect and not scan until you toggle it.

OR

2. As soon as the phone enables the 4g radio, it immediately is switched back to "off".

Don't know why, but there are many now experiencing the issue. I fixed it by simply removing switchpro, but if you don't know what the cause is it could certainly lead to hours or days of frustration...

hrm...my phone does this on Myn's on occasion...don't have switchpro.

are you sure it is switchpro causing the issue?

Just to hopefully narrow it down further, I have Myn's as well, use 4G every single day, and not once have I had that issue.

Glad it is only temporary, though. That would be awful to completely lose 4G.

I use calkulin. But I only know it started working the second I installed switchpro.

strange indeed. I have never owned switchpro and mine does exactly what you say.

it tries to connect and immediately turns back off..then may loop for a minute or two and either connect or go off....then i turn it on and it actually does connect.

I honestly thought it was an enhancement haha...that it wasn't connecting unless it was for sure a good signal

Maybe its only happening on calkulin.mine wouldn't connect for two days.

this actually a know issue with 4g and 4g toggles. I am on calkulin's old rom and I have the 4g issue where it won't turn on sometimes and just flashes on and off. I no longer use toggles and this still happens. you will need to reboot your phone to get this to stop. last night I flashed calk's 1.7 over 1.6.2 with only wiping cache and the same issue occured except a reboot would not fix it. so I flashed my nandroid and went back to 1.6.2.

check out this thread over at xda. first section will talk about 4g. Evo Battery Tips and Explanations **Updated 12-18-10** - xda-developers

I also had this occur with the fresh rom. then I was using a switchpro 4g toggle. and to get my 4g to work again I needed 4g switched on by the toggle, then removed the toggle. switched off 4g through settings and rebooted the phone.

this will also cause you battery drain. I started this thread a while back. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/230927-battery-drain-cpu-always-use.html

edit: crap!! I forgot to flash the new radios to go with this rom. did you guys do this? they are not included with the new evio rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 4g is working just fine now for me.

I was under the impression it was any 4g toggle. Mine used to do it on my rooted stock evo. As soon as it turned off it would turn on again and so on and so forth which killed the battery. So no more 4g toggles for me

so when you flashed the new radios with the rom did it begin working correctly? was it established that the problem is not the toggle widgets or what because those other articles implicate the widget and don't mention radios

No it was definitely the toggle. I had already flashed the new radio, wimax, NV combo after a clean install and boot on Calkulin 1.7.

Then I installed all of my apps (switchpro being one of them). Then the 4g issues began.

I started a mention of it on Calkulin's rom thread on XDA and someone recommended removing switchpro. I did, then it immediately began working again.

i like having the toggle! i wonder if this has always been an issue.. my battery life since i got my phone has fluctuated so radically. i'll switch to a rom/kernel combo and get over 20 hrs then suddenly i'll be getting around 12...

my 4G turns on and off fine now.. but if i check in alogcat i get the constant connection attempts even though 4G is supposedly off... is it certain that this has a significant effect on battery life as biofall claims on xda?
