Does the Eris BOGO Concern Anyone?

I've been w/ Vz long enough to know that when they start giving away phones or giving deep discounts, that model is on the way out or going to be replaced soon. Yes, I know that sounds silly, considering the Eris is new, but with rumors of a new phone coming early next year, does anyone wonder what VZ's motivation behind the recent BOGO promotions is?

If that's the case, then hopefully the Eris will be less than 99.00 once the Passion is in the supply chain.

The Eris HARDLY EVER been $99. Almost since the day that it was released, you've always been able to get the Eris for $60 or less, INCLUDING the activation fee. Currently, you can get it for $30 all-in at Wal Mart's online site.

The BOGO deal (at least at the $99+$35+$35 price point) is just a way to lure in the unsophisticated/unmotivated customers into the Android/Verizon camp.

Again, the BOGO promotion really isn't a good deal, but the point is the same. The relatively low price point and deep discounts on the Eris would seem to be a clear indication that the Eris will occupy "value" or "entry level" position within the Verizon/Android lineup. To me, this would also seem to indicate that there is another phone on the way that will either compete directly with the Moto Droid or serve as an elite version of the Eris.

I feel that if the Eris does everything I want/need it to do, it doesn't matter what new phone comes out.

Remember, happiness isn't getting what you want...it's wanting what you have.

100% agreement with this, also don't be fooled by the promotion of BOGO. verizon is pushing the android system, this is the best way to do it to spread it to the consumer. then when they DO release a better one (who knows when, and who really cares? there's always going to be a 'better one') people will consider this OS more.

I'll like the Eris even if a new phone comes out. I really waited out for a good phone that I could be happy with. The Eris fits my needs.

It's like when you get a car. You know there will be other cars every year even if you plan to own your car for 10 years. But at the time you buy it, you buy the one that seems right at the time. I have a two door Toyota Yaris Hatchback. Now they have the four door hatchback which I wished they had in the US at the time. Other countries had it before 2007, but in the US they decided to launch the car with only a two door hatchback and four door sedan. Really jealous of those extra doors for convenice. But I still really like my car. Needlessly long analogy...

It doesn't bother me at all. I picked up 2 yesterday at best buy for $25 a piece. They gave me the bogo deal and the reward zone discount. I am happy no matter what comes out in the near future.

They will always be introducing new phones so you can never be ahead of the game. As someone already said, the key is being happy with what you have and I really am.

That is a heck of a deal! Wow! I'm glad these smartphones are going at such a cheap price. I remember when phones used to cost at least $150 - $200...with a new contract...and they were dumbphones! And that was like 6 months ago, not some long long time ago.

And people complaining about $30/month for data...hey, eat out two less meal a month and that'll cover most of that expense. Or watch two less movies at the theater. Creative budgeting!

I do think there should be some sort of "family plan" for data, though. Three lines at my house equals $90/month in data alone. Eek! But as the old saying goes, "If you can't pay, don't play."

I ordered two for $99 on the Verizon website. Instant discount with no mail in rebate to wait for (maybe 2 or 3 months?) and the activation fees will be credited back on my second bill. I'm not worried about a new phone coming out. I just want a phone that works as a phone AND for the Internet. The data plan isn't too bad, really.

Great point. I was virtually obsessed with getting the latest Android news prior to getting the Eris. I spent so much of my internet browsing time reading about rumored phones and such. And, now that I've gotten my Eris, I've found that it's best to just give that up because I really don't care what else is out there anymore. I've got the phone I want and know that better phones will be coming out throughout the time of my contract but I'll worry about that when the contract runs up and it's time for a new phone.

i must admit, as i got the eris i been constantly going back and forth in my head about getting the droid or keeping this, to the point that i wasted too much time thinking about it and not enjoying this phone. both phones have downfalls, its just personal preference. i can't give up this phone for the eris ;\ everytime i think about holding the brick shaped phone to my head it just doesn't fit me. and as i read more and more from people going from droid >> eris, im happy i didn't exchange it. as long as the bugs get fixed (erm, youtube), and the better battery comes out with the help of the new OS coming, im sure i'll be happy. i just need to lay off this "getting the perfect android phone" business because it doesn't exist. not yet.

I had to log in on my PC because my Eris just froze! This is driving me up the wall. I have both phones and if it's not one thing, it's another. First, the keyboard froze when I was posting on another forum more than once. I came here and there was just a little bit of lag with scrolling. Then I try to load my email page. No can do. What now?
