Help Returning my POS Droid X

Have my second handset in two days and neither of them properly work with my bluetooth hands free device. It works fine until the phone goes to sleep and then some functions work, but will not launch the voice command function on the phone. It's amazing to me that bluetooth has been around since the mid 90's and these genius, tech geeks still can't design this junk to work correctly. My four year old phone worked flawlessly with my hands free. It's a shame, I liked the phone otherwise.

My bluetooth functions work fine. What headset are you using? I'm using the Motorola MOTOROKR S305.

I'm using the BlueAnt ST3. Worked flawlessly with my old Motorola Q. Spent hours on the phone with Motorola tech and they couldn't figure it out.

May just not be fully compatible. I know the Droid X has no problems with a device its compatible with so its not a pos.lol There is a BlueAnt app in the market. Have you tried that to see if it helps?

As I am new to Android, I'm not up on the whole market thingy just yet... That is a great suggestion and I will give it a shot. Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it. I did send an email to BlueAnt, I am hoping they'll have a suggestion too.

The apps in the marketplace are for other BlueAnt units, to read text messages. Good suggestion though.

Voice command is broke. Period. Get Vlingo.

What are your batt settings at? If its power saver it may shut off BT after 15 mins to save power. I think there is a warning, warning you of this when activating.

Or, if Wifi is cycling, searching for a signal BT gets staticy and may drop. Turn wifi off or if using Pandora your wifi should be solid anyways. What are your doing with wifi?

If those are your only two problems with this phone then yes you need to return it. You would be better off staying with the Q.

I find the connectivity to a bluetooth poor. Cuts off several times a day (as does wifi). The voice commands really bite also. Take forever and too choppy.

I have a blue ant st3 and it synced up very easily with my droid x. It uploaded all of the contacts and call quality is great. I have never used voice command, so I can not comment on that.

This seems to be a repeating theme with all Android phones and even iPhones. I think it's stupid and irresponsible to not have this technology work flawlessly before going to market with these products. We're not talking about cutting edge technology here, this stuff was created in the mid 90s for Pete's sake.

Aside from voice dialing, my BlueAnt works great w/ the Droid, which makes it even more weird and frustrating. I will try the Vlingo though. Thanks for the suggestion.

The thought of trading this thing in and going to a Windows based phone makes me throw-up a little in my mouth.

My PIN lockscreen (required by exchange email) prevents the bluetooth commands from working unless I unlock the phone. I put a 15 minute "Security lock timer" setting so the phone won't re-lock right when the screen goes off. So if I'm driving I have to a) remember to unlock when I start driving and b) make all my calls within 15 minutes.

I think Motorola calls this a security feature. Someone IN THEORY could steal my phone and already-paired BT headset. They could then access voice commands to read secret company emails (gasp!). I should at least be able to access some reduced functionality voice dialing when the phone is locked.

Downloaded Vlingo, so far it works well. Not as well as if the phone just did what it is supposed to do, but it is a good alternative. I havn't tried it in the car yet when I'm driving, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Battery settings are set to normal during the day but saver at night. Should be okay there.

Haven't even set up Wifi yet, still not sure if I'm keeping the phone.

Don't laugh, I liked my Q. My wife made fun of me a lot but it worked and that thing was tough. I can't tell you how many times I dropped it.

I have a Blue Ant Z9 and it works perfectly with my DX. My DX also works perfectly connecting to my Toyota Camry through bluetooth.

Have old Motorola H720 and H715. Used the heck out of them daily with my old blackberry. Thought I'd have to upgrade bluetooth devices when going to the DX, but both paired perfectly and work just fine with stock moto voice command service.

Had Vlingo on the blackberry and it worked great almost all the time. Tried it on the DX and saw no real difference in performance between it and what came with the stock phone.

Off-topic. I bet I have charged each of my bluetooth devices well over 1000 times each (I telemarket). I find it interesting that they can take that many charges and still work very well for several hours of talk time.

I have the same issues with my Plantronics Voyager Pro. It connects just fine, voice quality is great, but starting up voice commands takes a ridiculous amount of time for the most part. There are times when it comes right up, but most times it sits there and thinks about it for quite a while.
However I find this phone is still better than my BB storm2 so I will be keeping it... at least until the HTC Mecha comes out

I just installed Vlingo, it looks very promising.
