Root Someone Please Help!

Hello, and Happy Holiday's.

Yes, I am new to these forums, but not new to forums :p

Maybe someone can shed some light on a issue I got myself into. I recently bought a Huawei Ascend, and discovered the magic of rooting. I rooted the phone just fine in minutes simply because I am good with this kind of stuff, and I've jailbroken my ipod touch several times.

I was deleting bloatware when I deleted Gtalk because it seemed useless and I was not going to sign up for it, however, soon after doing this I realized how vital this service was. My email no longer forwards to my phone like it was doing everytime I got a email, nor can I download ANYTHING from the Droid Market anymore, it just gets stuck on " Starting Download".

I was able to get my hands on a gtalkservice.apk file to reinstall this into my Ascend to get it working properly again, but this is where I am having my issue. I plug my phone in via USB, and I navigate to my phone files thru My Computer, in my case the drive is F:, but unfortunately, I cannot find the SD Card folder at all. I thought it would be inside DCIM, but it isn't. I read that I can put the gtalkservice.apk file on my SD Card and install it off of the card, but I can't find the folder to do so. I also read you can install it through the Droid SDK Manager which brings me to my next issue. I start the Droid SDK Manager, I run the emulator, and I run Command Prompt, and I do what I am told from here

How to INSTALL .APK files on ANDROID Windows SDK EMULATOR | bOtskOOl

But, once I enter the command, I get the following.

The Device Is Not Ready
or
is not recognized as a internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

I am waiting on a USB Micro SD Adapter to come in the mail which will give me direct access to the card, but I do not have it yet, but I am reading other people are able to locate the sd card folder in the phones folder, but I am having no luck. I just want to install the gtalk service again so I can get back on the market and get my emails again.

Someone Please Help!

Thanks So Much

thats the problem with some phones.. they dont have a huge following of devs.. so then there are not a lot of hack/geeks that will follow it.. that means very little is done in that forum.

but there is still more knowledge there than here. The few that are there.. will eventually see your request and give you advise.

we are not familiar with that phone or the process you took to get you there. so we will not really know how to get you out of it.

like asking for a Ford mechanic to give you advice on a Kia. It might totally be wrong and make it worse.

form my experience with 2 android phones that I rooted..

did you not do a Nandroid backup before you stared deleting stuff??
I sure hope you did.. if you did not.. then you have just learned why you should!

if you did.. then just use that and restore your phone.

Negative....

I knew what I was doing, I firmly assumed ( *assumed * ) that gtalk was just another bloatware app, but turns out the services provided play a vital roll in the android market app as well as email. I did not back anything up like a moron, and now I am swimming in shits creek. Like I said above, I am in procession of the gtalk.apk and gtalkservice.apk, but I just duno how to get them installed on the phone.

I tried Android SDK Manger / Emulator, but I just keep getting the following error message

" install_failed_missing_shared_library "

The only thing I can actively do, is wait for my Micro SD USB Adapter to come in the mail, so I can transfer those 2 .apk files onto the card, and install them from there.

I am only hoping for the best, I knew I should not have rooted my phone...I had no reason to except the fact to delete extra stupid applications pre-loaded on my phone, as well as the UI upgrade... I will surely be more careful next time and avoid deleting that app / service.

Wouldn't a huawei ascend recovery rom for metro restore everything back to normal completely? Only problem is, I can't find one, I just want to re-install the gtalk.apk and gtalkservice.apk so I can get back on the market, and use email again

well.. if the files you have are good .apk files..
then you should be able to load them using a file manager app like... astro or estrong

lastly... there must be a way to do a real... "hard rest".. this makes the phone reset all its setting and files... this might put everything back to the orginal.. it should not remove root.
you will need to find out for your phone how to do the full "hard rest". It may also require you call your provider for the special code.

I used root explorer, I put the gtalkservice.apk and gtalkservice.odex into the system/app folder, and rebooted my phone but same thing, I need that hard reset, but not sure how to do it

so today

my phone turns on

you see huawei

then metro pcs

thennn

it turns off, and goes right back to metro pcs, over and over and over and over...i formatted and cleared the cache.no avail...went back to metro and got a replacement.....this time I won't be rooting even though I want to get rid of online banking, pocket express, virtual card, metro pcs easy wifi, free games, documents to go, and boingo wifi....no need for any of those, but i do not want to take the chance of the fone unable to boot after rooting again....so I will just deal with them, im sure the speed increase isn't much once removing those, and I really don't " need " launcher pro, so meh....I'll pretend I never discovered rooting.

thanks everyone

actually,

I think I will give it another shot with the new phone, I just won't delete anything related to google. Oly the things above. I also read once rooted, you can no longer receive OTA's? What could metro possibly send over the air that would update the phone? Like from 2.1 to 2.2 firmware? Would that work like an ipod after a new firmware comes out? gotta update on your own, and re root?

I c I 2 am late to this thread, but I did the EXACT SAME THING and got an error every time I booted my phone along the lines of "com.google.sumthin.apps stopped unexpectedly" FC. And couldn't download anything from the market. Upon MUCH investigation and even a reset of my phone (which didn't work BTW), I found this post,

Google Talk .apk's - xda-developers

where someone posted links to the apk's. I installed them and got it working again. However, every now and then I get an error in the market when I go to install something, and it FC's. But it opens right back up, and I cancel that download, and restart it then it's fine. Currently looking into a fix for that.

Again, sorry I'm late to this, as I believe it would have helped you. I have been seeing that A LOT of people have this problem on lots of phones. What kills me is that google requires it to be installed for the damn phone to work. I never use it so y the hell can't we delete it?? It's stupid.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I actually happened to find those as well, but from a different source, but it only consisted of gtalkservice.apk, and gtalkservice.odex. I read to download root explorer or a similar program, and I installed those two into the /system/app folder as directed. It did not work, as I still got that annoying error message. So I went back into root explorer, and deleted the ones I just put in, and rebooted the phone. Once I was rebooted, I went back and re-copied those files again for another shot, I then read you needed to do a hard reset once those files were in so it could properly reload all of the services and stuff. So I turned off the phone, held down the volume up+ call button + power, and I got to the screen where you can clear the cache and stuff, and I hit reboot.

I don't know what happened but it would not start up after that. It would say android, then go to the metro pcs logo, then after a good 15 seconds or so, it would flash black, and flash right back to metro pcs again, and this just kept happening over and over, and since unfortunately xpa only has the cricket recovery rom, I was screwed. I had to bring it back to where I bought it to just get told to go to a corporate store which I did, and got a replacement.

I then came home with a new phone again, everything normal, and told myself I won't root this time, just deal with the extra shyt, but 5 minutes later, I rooted it again. lol.... this time, I did not delete anything google related, and I am good to go. I know I lose OTA but when is metro really going to send updates out...only thing I know about is converting their phones all to 4g with a update, but not sure when it is happening.

I appreciate your reply, with those files, I am going to download them anyway and store them safely away somewhere in case for whatever reason I may need them. Hope you can fix your problem of FC'ing sometimes even though you got market working again.

Fer rizzle? I would b happy with just 3G at this point. I went from virgin mobile's 3G network to metro's 1x simply for the (IMO) nicer phone. I like the bigger screen and it doesn't lag like my intercept did. That thing wuz horrible. But I do miss the faster network speeds. It would RAWK if Metro converted all to 4G. I would crap my drawers.

Yeah, the manager on the clock at one of the corporate stores hinted it to me, all he said is it's something they plan to do, but he did not say when.
