Had my SGS (2.1) for a few days now, i love android but the apps for it have a mind of their own.

1. Facebook app: HORRIBLE, seriously, notifications don't work, it crashes all the time, scrolling through the posts is awful, laggy

2. Yahoo Messenger app: Laggy, crashes, i turn it off and it turns back on again whenever it wants

3. Mail: i refresh my inbox, get a new email and only a while later i get the notification in the bar

These are some of the things that bug me about it. The phone is brand new, out of the box from my carrier. I have not modified it in any way.

Do you guys know of any fixes for it ? Does 2.2 get rid of some of these problems ? Also, how can i update using Mac OS ?

Thanks a bunch !

This is usually done by people who are into computers and the like. Flashing (Load) a custom ROM is not for the beginner. If you want to do this, read a lot about it first. This is probably the best place to learn about flashing ROMs.

Flashing custom ROMs will...

A) Void your warranty
B) Possibly cause other problems (I flashed JPX and I couldn't receive calls anymore).
and even worse,
C) Brick (Kill) your phone.

I would try a factory reset or better yet, return it and try to get another one since it's only a couple of days old.

As for the Mac issue, I believe you need to have 'USB debugging' enabled.
Go to:
Settings
Applications
Development
USB debugging
