App to Block Certain Numbers from callin and Texting ??

You can try aFirewall. There's a full version for a couple bucks and a lite version. It will black list numbers you give it, and also block unknown and private numbers if you choose. It'll block sms and calls for sure, but not mms as of yet.

Thanks, I'll try that. Because CallFilter I don't like because when you block "unknown numbers" you can still see it calling for 2 seconds and only then does it disappear and sends it to voicemail. I was mainly looking for an app that either picks up the call and hangs up or that has a busy tone so they can't ever get through, nor leave a message.

I tried callfilter and it worked, except I don't like the momentary ring before it sends the call to voicemail. I tried aFirewall but couldn't get it to block unknown calls at all. I also tried SPC (Super Private Conversation) but it also allowed a short ring before forwarding to voicemail.

Any other apps out there that work a little better?

BTW, I'm only trying to block "private calls" and calls from an unknown source.

You can block up to 5 numbers from calling or texting for free on the My Verizon web site.

  • Login to your My Verizon account

  • Click on the My Services tab

  • On the left side, click on Verizon Safeguards

  • Under Verizon Safeguards, click on Spam Controls

To block more than 5 numbers (up to 20) you must subscribe to Usage Controls (not free).

That won't work for what I want... You need to know the number for that. I want to block unknown / private / restricted calls..

You might consider Google voice. You can pretty much take control of everything.

Agreed. You can set GV to block all but known numbers. I think you can either send it to VM or they can actually receive a message telling them the number has been disconnected. This will require a different number though, so people may still call your actual cell number...

Hi Bugsy,

Usage Controls for $4.99 does block all unknown, private and resticted calls, even 411 calls in addition to blocking two-way communication via MMS, SMS or calls with 20 other individuals.

You can also use it to shut off SMS, MMS and calls with all individuals except for 20 trusted individuals, giving you complete control of your child's phone.

It is available at vzw.com/usagecontrols

Good luck!:)

For those of you using android 2.1 (others may work I just happen to have this version on my Samsung Captivate) go to settings -> call settings -> all calls -> auto reject. Enable auto reject then click auto reject list. Here you can enter the number manually by going to the menu or you can select from contacts or call log. Enjoy the silence http://androidforums.com/images/icons/droids/tongue.gif
