Help Audio jack... worth returning?

So, to start, I'm still in my 30day return period... for a little while longer anyhow.

I've been noticing come crackling. I've noticed it with two different pairs of headphones, and it seems to mostly be due to the plug (I wiggle the jack and hear crackling and/or it clears up).

I do not have the volume at full. In fact it's usually at the middle point.

One thing I just noticed while typing this out, is that the phone will automatically pause audio if the jack is removed. When I set the phone down, sometimes it wiggles the jack and disconnects momentarily causing the audio to pause. I have to wake the phone back up and restart it.

Are all the droids this way? Is this something I should hurry up and return my phone over since I"m still in my 30 day return period?

Also if I do return it over this will they give me a new one or a refurb?

This is the first real problem I've had with this phone aside from a couple times where it locked up (think that might have been because of program conflicts though).

I had that same issue, went to verizon and they switched mine imediately. So far no problems

if you convince them its been happening since day 1 and your phone looks good you should have no problem with an exchange. i don't know about the new/refurb part. if they think you cause the hardware problem, then you are going to have a harder time. get in there before your 30 is up either way... good luck!

I recommend swapping it out. I have this problem and it only progressively became worse over time. My aux port now barely works at all and headphones are completely unusable (it got worse very quickly in the last few days.)

I'm past my 30 but called vzw and they arranged a replacement/exchange. I haven't gotten it yet (I should on Monday, fedex willing) so I'm not sure about new/refurb. Fingers crossed it's not refurb...

I'd really like to not have to get a refurb if at all possible.

So, I just went through and backed up my apps with astro, and will shortly backup my whole sdcard to my PC. One thing I was wondering though, would they allow you to swap cards between your return phone and the new one? Would really simplify things... kinda doubt they would go for that though.

If I'm really lucky I might be able to get it in tomorrow or monday. Kinda bummed out that I have to return this at all. I was just getting used to it and kinda finally settled on this is gonna be my phone from now on.

they let me swap sd cards no prob when i got a new replacement in store.

edit: getting late.. might have read u wrong... as far as transferring, your old phone will work until your new phone is activated... should be no prob.

I've only ever changed phones by handing the units over to a rep and letting them do some sort of transfer voodoo. I figured I could swap over the SD card (they said the replacement would have no battery, battery cover or SD card if I remember correctly) and then call with the new phone to activate. And then found myself wondering 'Can you actually call to activate on an unactivated phone?' I guess this is what calling 611 is for.

I just got back from Verizon. They really tried very very hard not to give me a replacement. I'm fairly certain they finally gave in just to get me out of the store. Kinda proved the theory that when all else fails... get pissed off.

The new phone is a bit different. There's a bit of foam on the battery cover that makes it nearly impossible to close fully and even harder to remove (seems I'll end up having to scrape the foam off the backing). The keyboard seems a little rougher as well.

Is there any way for me to tell if this is a refurb they gave me and are trying to pass off as a new phone? Hell, do they even carry refurbs in the stores?

EDIT: I got sick of sitting here with the battery cover off and just scraped the foam from the decal that held it to the cover. That decal alone seems to provide enough extra bulk to keep it in place without creating too much friction. With the foam patch, it created so much friction you'd risk damaging the phone just to get it on.

The keyboard is much tighter than my first droid, which confirms my suspicion that the case I had for it really did loosen it up.

So, I still have a few days to make sure there's no other problems with this phone and would like to determine if it's a refurb or new. Really hoping I can look forward to keeping this for the next 2 years.

Not that it tells you much, but can you look up the lot number? (mines 39/09 for instance)

A large amount of light bleeds out from under the 4 buttons at the bottom of the screen. On my old phone, it was only noticable when viewing the phone at an extreme angle. This one... if I hold the phone vertically, parallel to my face, I can see the light. I don't have to tilt it down to see the light... It's that bad.

I don't know how I'm going to get this one replaced considering how badly they gave me shit for the last one.

FWIW, I arranged my return for the audio jack over the phone (calling 611) and they were about a thousand times easier to deal with than my local VZW store.

I got the phone today. The jack problem is gone and as far as I can tell, the unit is new. (And I gave the whole thing a pretty heavy scrutinizing...)
I have a bit of backlight bleed on both this and the last phone tho'. Same corner even...

Seems abnormal for the fact that it was such a huge difference between my first phone and this one. It's hugely distracting at normal viewing angles.
