I ordered an epic from radioshack wireless. They told me they were gonna throw in a screen protector and car charger, when i got the bill I realized I was being charged for that "throw-in" I sent the whole package back cause they refused to reimburse me. So once again I was back to comparing the evo and epic. My question is if the epic doesn't have the keyboard would everyone still pick the epic? Sorry if this has already been done

I don't need the keyboard either! The screen is georgeous but every review i've read says that the evo is better, even though the epic has a better screen, plus keyboard,faster processor, camera and etc. Honestly I just don't understand why...why is everyone sweating the evo...

Hard to say. I tested out both and the keyboard was really what put the Epic over the Evo for me (along with the dedicated camera button).

Had it not had a keyboard, I'm not sure. I might have gone for the Evo because of Froyo, the kickstand, and the HDMI Out. On the other hand, if the Epic gets Froyo then I'd keep that because of the better screen, better video playback capabilities, and better processor.

Everything works, the gps is amazing, HTC support trumps Samsungs. I don't think I even need to mention 2.2...

I've been a samsung fanboy for the last 10 years and I might just be done with them after seeing how good the evo works.

At the end of the day it really depends on how you use the phone and what works for you. I talked my wife into the epic and I still believe it's the better phone for her. If I had one I would have it rooted by now to get 2.2 but I honestly think root should be for removing bloat and customizing the rom. I don't think you should have to root it to get the firmware the manufacturer should give you. If it's out and working well enough for people to run then they should have a version out with the problem areas turned off until they can fix them.

Probably partly because it has froyo, and partly because of the bigger screen which really can't be a negative although the bigger size can be. Add in the lag and gps issues of the galaxy s line and I could easily see why someone would rate the evo as being better. On top of this, some people like lcd screen better saying they are better for reading text, and then the only realm where the hummingbird processor really outclasses the snapdragon is in 3d gaming.

yes.. it is very hard to say why evo is better.. can not be put down on paper.

on paper.. samsung looks great. Out specs the EVO in almost everything. Samsung is great at paper marketing.
But...

i give you 2 examples:
BMW 335ci
GMC Camero

on paper the camero has some great numbers and specs.
in a straight line.... Camero may out run the 335.
but take them on a track...
or on real roads and around corner...
day to day ride...
fun and responsiveness..

the evo parts are matched well together for over all performance. the overall performance is more than the sum of they individual parts.

HTC also adds in service and support. Sense is good. and with the new sense.com it will bring another level of usability. Rumor has it.. Sense is bringing in its own movie hub partnered with Netflix!!!!!

Samsung has proven time and time again.. in the past and currently with Galaxy S line.. they know who to make a phone that will sell millions... but then it is time to make a new line and millions more... who cares about the old lines (samsung got the $$$).
and lets be honest... the general public is very very happy with the EPIC as it is. Great phone!

but HTC and EVO is a better super phone.

I own both phones, and both are awesome. I prefer my Evo slightly more than my Epic, but that does not mean that the Evo is better for everyone.

Those who need others' approval to get these phones should post a poll on a thread to let other people dictate your phone choice, which will still make you miserable because of your indecision to get one or the other.

But both Evo and Epic are fantastic phones, each with their pros and cons. Don't have the "grass is greener" syndrome, because you'll keep kicking yourself over something that really doesn't matter. Both phones are fine, pick one and live with it.

I too have both phones, I don't ever use the Epic's keyboard as i prefer Swype's keyboard but between the two I prefer the Epic....It's just smoother to me. I don't use Touchwiz or Sense because both are bloatware IMO...and I prefer LauncherPro. The only thing in my mind has is better with the EVO is that it's data speeds on 3G seem way faster...4G is no difference however....Battery Life between the two goes to the Epic but it might be different for others as both have custom ROM's on them. Don't let these people fool you, either phone is the right choice. I cannot see how one person can literally say that they are unhappy with one and happy with the other...Nitpickers I guess as both phones will wow you and aggravate you at the same time, LMAO.....Just choose the one that you feel more comfortable with.

I wouldn't. Other than th Sense UI, the kickstand, and the support for 3 more devices at a time on the Mobile Hotspot fearure, the EPIC is superior in everyway.

What are you on about? I've never ran into any sort of upload speed cap while 4G tethering.

Silly comparo. Most of why the 335 wins (as you pointed out in the handling and ride categories) is due to its superior suspension design, lighter weight, etc.. Isn't it a chevy camero, not GMC or are you talking about BMW 335i vs. GMC Canyon?

The only things that HTC is better than Epic are: 2.2 and customer service. But then again, despite having 2.1, i have NOT had to call Samsung customer service for anything...phone works as advertised. Sprint customer service is what most of us need, NOT the actual phone manufacturer's service. Yeah, Samsung sucks at getting software update out...but didn't HTC take a long time to fix the glass separating issue???? THAT is something that i would freak out about...and definitely call HTC customer service! Fortunately, Epic does not have any hardware issue to date.

GPS issue? A minor lag when i first boot it...and then works fine for most people.

EVO does have a better spec camera...but it is still inferior to Epic's camera...maybe i should bring up the GMC Camero vs. 335 comparo here!

GMC or Chevy... all under GM.. but you are right.. chevy camero.
But both are 2 door sports cars (335ci vs Camero). the bmw is better all around. because all the individual parts (engine, suspension, body, steering) work together better.. and give feedback to the user so that the driving experience is top notch.

I agree the spec of epic out weights specs of evo....in almost all categories. But put all that together (hardware, sense, htc, support) and you have a better user experience that is top notch.

Of course this is my experience and my opinion and my preference... you have yours.

PS... i have had many HTC phones: touch, diamond, touch pro 2, hero... now EVO. all have been great for me for the available tech at the time of their release. Lets name the successful smartphones by samsung....?

Still...if I had a choice b/w bad build quality vs waiting a bit long for software update all the while the phone still working very well, then I would gladly pick the latter. Just like the glass separation issue, the software update will come soon. And once we have 2.2, the Epic should be better than Evo in specs AND actual useage! No contest.

Lack of gorrilla glass killed the Evo deal for me....and my Sprint store tells me that Evo returns far outnumber Epic returns....

Personally, I would take a Mustang GT 5.0 over the 335I....

about the screen separation.. I do not deny that issue... but take it with a grain of salt... you hear it more on forums because... the nature of the beast.

scratches... gorilla glass is great! I am not sure if EVO has or not have it. But other HTC phones do have it (hero). But I know it is Glass. The material known as Glass...is very scratch resistant .. the nature of the beast. Oh.. i dont use screen protector too.. hate the feel.

returns.... that is what warranties are for.
I would rather have a bmw... even if I have to use the warranty for leather trim issues a few times till they get it right.

but again... I agree you love your phone.
