Root Help! ClockworkMod Recovery!

Upvote 0
Yes that's right I forgot about that and was so used to using clockwork. Anyway I may have bricked the phone. All I get now when I turn it on is the white screen with the 4g. I can get to recovery but when I select that option it takes me to clockwork and if I try and reboot from there I go back to the white screen. Seems like an endless circle. Any suggestions...I obviously at this point can't get the file I need monto my sd card.

Don't worry, you haven't bricked the phone. You can get to hboot, and even recovery (regardless of it being a broken recovery, that's still a good thing). I forget exactly where it is in clockwork, but there is an option to mount the sdcard over usb so that you can copy files to the sdcard with the phone connected via usb. So, plug the phone in to your computer, then look for the option when you're in recovery. I want to say it's in the partitions menu option somewhere. Rename the PC36IMG file and copy it over to the root of the sdcard. Reboot back into hboot, and follow the instructions from there.

Note that there is a good chance that you'll lose whatever rom you had running (though it sounds like that's already happened), so if you don't have a rom on the sdcard to flash, you should probably copy one over. Don't count on any nandroid backups working. No matter what, do not try to restore a nandroid backup made in clockwork.

Ok, everything is good in the world again. Thank you so much for your help!!! I was a little worried...lol Now what do I need to be using for backups? What program should I be using to get me back to exactly what I had before something goes wrong? I am having to set my phone up all over again...what a pain!

Oh, one more thing. I don't know what all you did while you had clockwork, but you should make sure you haven't lost your wimax rsa keys, just for good measure. Open a terminal emulator on your phone, get su, and type the following:

grep RSA /dev/mtd/mtd0

You should get output that looks like this:

RSA-REQUEST
RSA-REPLY
RSA-REJECT
RSA-ACK
RSA-1024
RSA-REQUEST
RSA-REPLY
RSA-REJECT
RSA-ACK
RSA-1024
RSA
ReRSA
RSA requests
RSA replies
-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

Those last two lines, specifically, are what you're looking for. If they're not there, you've lost 4g for good. If you didn't flash or restore anything with clockwork (sounds like it didn't get too far anyway), you're probably fine, but you should check.

This comes up exactly as you have shown me above.

Hi all, I'm trying to unroot my phone that was rooted with Unrevoked3. I'm following the steps below. I've made it through Step 8, and HBOOT says S-ON, so I think I'm good to go there. However, I perform step 9, but when I get to Step 10 I can't get my USB to mount so I can perform the PC36IMG.zip step and continue on.

Could someone please walk me through the steps using ClockworkMod Recovery so I can mount my phone and USB to my computer so I can download the zipped file? I've tried it both on my Windows and Macbook, and can't get it to work with either one....

PLEASE HELP!!! I've spend hours on this process... THANKS!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD
Download both the PC36IMG.zip and the S-On Tool to your PC Desktop. DO NOT EXTRACT

STEP 2: MICRO USB
Connect your device to your PC with the Micro USB cord.

STEP 3: DISK DRIVE
Chang your charging options to Disk Drive.
Menu > Setting > Connect to PC > Default Connection Type > Disk Drive > Done

STEP 4: S-ON TOOL TO SDCARD
Transfer unrevoked-forever-son.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.
(Do not transfer the PC36IMG.zip yet)

STEP 5: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.

STEP 6: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.

STEP 7: FLASH ZIP
Select unrevoked-foreverson.zip in the selection area and press POWER button to complete the FLASH.

STEP 8: IS S-ON, ON?
When the FLASH is complete, Reboot the device into the Bootloader screen by holding down VOL + POWER until it boots into the White Screen. Check to make sure it says S-ON on the TOP. If it does, select RECOVERY with the VOL DOWN toggle. (continue to step 9)

If it says S-OFF, repeat STEPS 5 - 7 until it says S-ON.

STEP 9: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.

STEP 10: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.

STEP 11: TRANSFER PC36IMG.zip TO SDCARD
Connect the MICRO USB Cord. There is an option for this in both the Amon RA and Clockwork recovery.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.

STEP 12: UNHOOK USB FROM PC + USB OFF
SAFELY remove the USB from the PC and then turn OFF USB in Recovery.

The Device will check for the PC36IMG.zip and then ask you YES/NO to apply the newly introduced update. Press VOL UP = YES or VOL DOWN = NO.
Once Completed, press VOL UP to reboot.
I only flashed the s-on tool in recovery and it is "on" but i still have root and it cant find the PC36IMG.zip i have the latest hboot

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S.- I also tried the following instructions, and it loads PC36IMG.zip, but after it is done checking it, it comes up with the errors "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Do you want to reboot the device".

HELP!!!

-Copy the PC36IMG.zip to the root of your SD Card
-Power off your phone
-While holding the VOLUME DOWN button, power on your phone into bootloader
-The phone will scan for a PC36IMG.zip
-Once prompted, install the update and reboot

Sorry for not being clear. I'm new to rooting on Android, and am gettting confused.

I'm trying to unroot my phone (HTC Evo). Originally I rooted it using Unrevoked3. I've followed the steps I previously listed to unroot, and I've gotten the phone through Step 8, so the phone says S-ON (which I believe is a good thing for un-rooting).

I believe the second part is to get my phone to a un-rooted ROM (Step 10 & on). I couldn't get the phone to find the USB mass storage, using either my Windows machine or Macbook, in order to run PC36IMG.zip to reset my phone. So I followed some other directions which said copy the PC36IMG.zip file directly to the root of my SD Card, which I did. I then powered off the phone, and used HBOOT to load the PC36IMG.zip from my SD card. It does load PC36IMG.zip, but after it loads and is done checking the file, it comes up with the errors "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Do you want to reboot the device".

What I'm trying to do at this point is find the best (and hopefully least complicated) way of getting my phone to a stable, clean, non-rooted status...

I would appreciate any help immensely!!!
