I've tinkered with Meridian, Act 1, video player, etc. All the same issue!

So the Droid doesn't have this problem? man, I just don't know what to do!

I'm not a big fan of the physical keyboard, but that's not a deal breaker for me. Is it a hassle to use with that giant gold box on the right side of the keyboard?

As someone who really doesn't like the hardware keyboard I can tell you that I actually am, very slowly, getting better on it. I still fly on the software keyboard in comparison though.

For sure, it's not a hassle. I'm glad it's there and wonder if I actually will get good enough to make greater use of it.

Having a D-pad is nice for games too.

In my personal experience, Motorola has generally sucked at making phones. I've had a bunch of them, and although they LOOK cool, they start having a bunch of problems as time goes on. rebooting by itself, freezing, crap like that.

How do you all feel about that with the Droid?

i turn the brightness all the way down on my droid and it still looks great. when i want to watch a movie or look at pics, i turn it up and it's ridiculous. the screen is beyond great, it's outstanding. i have never had problems with video and i usually use the default player. the audio is even better. with the volume 1 click down, it's about the same as most other phones on full volume. it has a full sound with no frequency loss. my wife has an env touch with dolby sound and the droid smokes it. get the droid, unless you like the next best thing.

I had an Eris for three weeks (my first smartphone) and really liked the virtual keyboards. I think I still like the HTC virtual keyboards better than the stock Android ones on the Droid.

I quite like that the Droid has stock Android and not an alternative interface like HTC Sense.

I didn't think I would like the Droid's physical keyboard, but I find myself using it much more than the virtual ones. So, no, I don't believe the keyboard is a hassle and I quite enjoy using it.

My biggest complaint (OCD, yep) is that there is light from the LEDs for the capacitive buttons that 'leaks' onto the very bottom of the display (directly above the buttons). I find this extremely annoying in a darker room, but many posts on the various Droid forums indicates that this is a common issue with these phones.

I've owned a few Moto phones and have always found them well built devices (even the old RAZR I was using for a few months due to my LG hinge cracking). The Moto E815 I had was an excellent phone. However, I am concerned that the slider design of the Droid will come to be a problem in the future.

I originally bought the Eris, then gave it to my wife and got the Droid. I like the Droid much better. The Eris would often lag when I was typing a text message, and also was slow to rotate between landscape and portrait. I never experienced a lag when watching videos on the Eris - it could be the program you are using to rip them. I am very happy I made the switch though, the Droid is ridiculously faster and the screen really is that nice. I went from a blackberry, iphone to eris, to the droid - and this screen is on a whole different level from those phones. It's the difference between looking at something on a high def tv and regular (yes I know the Droid is not hi-def im using an analogy). It stands out that much. If you do make the trade, you won't regret it. But the Eris is a good phone too.

After 5 weeks of HEAVY use, my DROID feels the way it did right out of the box. I think build quality is exceptional. The screen resolution is extravagant. And the hardware keyboard is a nice "option". I am getting better on it with each passing week. If you don't like it, don't use it. But I think you'll find it to be a plus in certain situations.

If you mention the droid being rooted as an appeal, then this is probably the phone for you. This thing's a veritable geek playground!

Best advice is probably a hands-on approach. Make a visit to the store and play with the Droid until you are satisified. That's what I did, aside from a lot of research on this forum beforehand! As far as the physical keyboad is concerned, if you find you do not like it, simply do not use it. There's always the virtual KB to use. I don't use the physical keyboard, but I will probably will be using the D-Pad for gaming soon. Even HD YouTube videos on the Droid look to be DVD quality, so the screen on this device is superb. I do not think you can go wrong, but once again, check it out for yourself, and post back on what you decide!

That raises another issue. . . when the Eris recently received an OTA update (not to 2.0 or 1.6, a minor "bug fix"), almost every youtube video failed to load. This is not limited to my phone. Over on the Eris side there are a ton of people complaining of the same thing.

Is this an issue on the Droid??

Not for me. Post the OTA update, I'm still able to use YouTube without any issues. However, I must tell you, that the only way for YouTube to "default" to HD is if you are using WiFi. Of course, loading HD quality does take a bit longer than non-HD, but other than that, no issues for me. Another cool thing I do is download HD quality YouTube videos to my phone using the "Dolphin" 3rd-party browser.

- Eris soft keyboard is good, but processor power (at current OS 1.5) is too slow to handle heavy input. Immediately I began longing for my Droid keyboard.

- I also immediately began missing the screen on the droid. It may not be much bigger, but I believe it is a superb form factor for a mobile phone. The Eris is familiar if coming from an iphone, but not optimal.

- As others' have said the Eris landscape keyboard is too slow to switch to for practical use.

- Video quality on the Droid is excellent at full length, ripped on stock Handbrake settings for iPod classic. Although, there is an issue with the bitrate or something because about 50% of the time videos do not play through stock media player or Act 1, but sound plays.

The real allure for me to the Droid is its larger screen, full physical keyboard, and faster processor. The combined make for a geek's wet dream. The processing power isn't something to be taken lightly - you can tell within the first 15 seconds the differences between the two phones.

While the 2.0.1 OTA upgrade for the Droid wasn't all it was cracked up to be, it didn't really cause any widespread new problems. It was - in all senses of the word - an upgrade. No Youtube problems that I'm aware of. Some people have experienced minor quirks, but I haven't seen any glaring problems experienced by the majority of users.

Probably the same reason my gf got an Eris. Cheaper. Best Buy Reward Zone had a deal for the Eris @ $49.99. Pretty kickin deal if you ask me. I still like my Droid better, but at 1/4 the price, hard to go wrong.

As to the YouTube problem, I have it too. If you use YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. it will work fine.
