Help Music from SD

Here's my proposition. I've tried to put 3 CD's worth of stuff onto my phone's SD card. Yes, there is enough space, yes it is working. No problems there. The thing is, all the songs I upload to it are put under the 'Unknown Artist' category. Yes, they all have titles, and artist names under them as well as album names, I only buy CD's or songs legit. Why can't I organize them? It's almost keeping me from using my phone as an MP3 player which is one reason I bought it. (Multi-use intentions)

Does anyone know how to organize them or at least get the phone to recognize the different artists and albums? S.S

Im also having this problem, my problem seems to be that the music is cached some how. I have my problem in previous post http://androidforums.com/samsung-moment/28817-clear-data-music-storage.html

I have used both windows and itunes to edit the mp3 tags but its still not seeing any change. Might just be a problem with cupcake 1.5

I think it may be a 1.5 only issue as well... scoping the Hero forums there are several having this issue as well. Oh well, now I have more to wait for on the first quarter of '10. COME ON UPDATE!!!

To me, dBpoweramp Music Converter is the best conversion and tag editing software out there. It adds a menu to edit tags by simply right clicking and haven't had any issues whatsoever with my music using their tag editor or music conversion.

I'll admit that I haven't tried a bunch of programs but the Explorer integration is SUPER nice and it's easy on your resources.

I can't say why I don't have the issue but I have a full 16gig Micro SD card full of music & they're all categorized by albums/artist etc. Granted, they're like that of course in my itunes so I just drag from there & Voila... & with MixZing, the artwork & extra info come up as well...

im not having this problem with any of my mp3s so i believe its what your using to convert to mp3s or how.

BTW, not that this should matter much, but my files are MP4(AAC) files...

I have the same problem, won't read the tags on some of my albums. I think 1.5 has issues reading certain id3 versions.

Agreed. I have no problem with my phone reading artists and albums. I am using Itunes and dragging to the sd card.

Bingo. The ID3 tags on songs sometimes arent always edited properly. I personally dont use Itunes so I cannot vouch for that application, but I know that using dBpoweramp to rip my CD's never fails me.

I havent experienced any problem with missing information on songs thus far that I have copied to my phone.

Count me in as having problems as well. I dragged about 10 songs over to my SD card from iTunes, just to see how the music player worked, as well as some Sing Along app.

4 of the 10 songs show up properly (by artist). The other 6 are grouped into "Unknown Artist".

I'm pretty meticulous with my iTunes tagging, and over time have even added album art and lyrics to all 6,000+ songs on my computer.

So I'm blaming Android for this problem.

Are there any apps that let you edit tags for songs that are on the phone?

My Moment did not recognize many of my song's ID3 tags at first. After some experimenting, I came to discover that it doesn't recognize ID3v2.4. I know that iTunes creates tags using that version (not sure if it uses that version by default, but I know it uses it). Use one of the hundreds of ID3 tag editors out there to convert your tags to the much more widely used and supported ID3v2.3.

MERIDIAN allows you to edit ID tags for the mp3's. Once you're in the application, navigate to the particular file and choose it by holding your finger over it to bring up the popup menu. Select 'Edit ID3 Tag' and bingo - you're gold. Before you edit the file, I suggest you look at one of your files that IS showing up correctly to see what information needs to be in sync. Also, depending on what media player you use, you may need to 'Refresh' for the player in order to bring the revised and updated information into its memory/buffer.

Hi all... this is an issue that has really been bugging me. I know the thread is a little dated but there apears to be no resolution ..
here are my details...
My symptom is that the only music that displays tag info like artist or album is music that I've purchaed via Amazon mp3 download (on my PC). The rest of my collection shows up as "unknown".

I use iTunes to keep my music organized as well as to rip CDs.
All of my music is MP3
Aside from the handful of amazon songs all music was ripped from CD ( i did this several years ago)

What is odd is that well before i had the samsung moment I would drag and drop misic from iTunes playlists to SD card or CD (mp3). I could then play these on my work PC using windows media player, or in my car cd player (mp3 compatible). Both of these non-apple players are able to display the tag info with no problem. So that would lead me to believe that it is not an iTunes issue..

So has anyone found any workarounds? I'm not interested in manually retaging thousands of songs using another tool (too lazy ... which is why i used itunes to begin with)

Are there other players in the app store?

Well, as an update, it all works for me now. I found my files were ripped (courtesy of Microsoft....) as .wma files. This, our phones do NOT like. I re-ripped at .mp3, and guess what. All is well now.

That is probably b/c they got retagged.

Go to download.com, download something called mp3tag

Load up your library in mp3tag, and make it write the OLD version of the tag ALONG with the NEW.

Poof its fixed.

For some reason, Android has a problem with reading the ID3 Tags, and if you retag them all, your fine.

I know those of you with large music libraries re-tagging EVERY FILE may not be a viable solution.... or is it?

So first you highlight all your songs in mp3tag
Click convert
Select ID Tag to File Name
(Let it work)
Poof, all your music is renamed!

ex.

File Name: 025 With Arms Wide Open
ID TAG: Creed - With Arms Wide Open

(After processed)

File Name: Creed - With Arms Wide Open
ID TAG: Creed - With Arms Wide Open

Now, REVERSE THE PROCESS, AND SELECT IDV1, IDV2, AND IDV3

Walaa! Poof! Presto! Android can now read your music tags
