Which Games lag on stock EVO? Which ones play fine?

Title says it all. I'm curious because many people say the Evo was outdated when it was released. I'm not much of a gamer, but I'm curious to see how most "commerical" games work (angry birds, need for speed, lets golf)

I only played angry birds on stock, but it ran just fine. Things with lots of 3D acceleration are the ones that are going to be more bogged down on the EVO.

the 4G issue that eats up the CPU clock and makes the EVO sluggish is the ONLY time i have seen the EVO lag on me.. and this goes without saying you cant play a 3D style game when you have 100% clock cycles eaten up by the 4G issue..

SO.. other than the above issue (Which is remedied by turning off 4G), i have seen ZERO lag with the aforementioned games--those of which i own and have played many times on the EVO:

Nova (full title)

ZERO lag. i am running stock ROM nonrooted.
i do NOT have the latest maintenance release installed as of this writing.
maybe one or two apps in phone memory, rest are on the SD card.

i have every radio on all the time and push enabled in the background.

Well my Evo has been rooted for a while now so really didn't test out 3D gaming until I rooted. I did try out asphalt when I first got my evo and it worked pretty flawlessly. I never really saw a game til this day that really performed poorly on the Evo.

I concur. I'm a huge gamer. I have tons of 3d games in my evo. All run smooth except one, dungeon defenders. Some of the games I have are
Avatar HD, Real soccer 2011 HD, GT racing, Spiderman HD, Pocket legends, fishing kings, oregon trail, shrek kart, splinter cell, modern combat, etc. Those are mostly gameloft but there are many many more. The gpu isnt the greatest but its leaps and bounds better then the htc hero or samsung moment

Out of all my games, mainly Dungeon Defenders does not run perfectly smooth on my non rooted Evo, though Reckless Racing hiccups at times too!

Most (not all) things are outdated when they are released.

Many people also refer to the EVO as the best phone out there, so the implication is that even the BEST phone out there is outdated...

I went down to 500mhz.... and it ran perfectly! no lag! at all!!!!!
this of course is do the GPU....

fyi...

even-though my EVO can do 1190mhz..
i now have my EVO set to: 614mhz... while screen is on...
and to 384 when the screen is off.
to save battery.

if it can run angry birds at 500mhz...
why do I need all that power to cpu.. during the work day.. when I can not play games?????

Dungeon Defenders. I don't know why they released this game to android without optimizing for our GPU. Lags like crazy. Unplayable. Even Splinter Cell Conviction cut scenes lag a bit and it's got about half the surfaces to render and it's not mmo.

I'm running the stock Evo now.

Games that run fine/no lag for me:
World War, Angry Birds, NFS Shift, Rugby Nations 09, SliceIt, Full tilt Poker Rush, Alchemy, Air Control, Catch Word...

Super Mario RPG lagged pretty bad on Snesoid when I had my Evo, but that was way before it got 2.2 and before the FPS locked was removed.

That was a snesoid/SMRPG issue... not an evo issue.

IMO outdated isn't/wasn't a good description. Underperforming and/or handicapped was a more apt statement

Gaming has much improved since Froyo and other updates. Rest assured, while not top dog, its no longer lacking in this department.

Well I go through different games about every week. Today I got N.O.V.A. from Gameloft and I am impressed with not just the Gameplay but the graphics, I love the online play as well, with virtually no lag. Definitely one of the most fantastic games I've played on my Evo thus far.

I don't play a lot of games on my evo but after overclocking my phone, I have never had any lag on any games. Angry birds would lag just slightly when it was a 998mhz but at 1.113 it is smooth. To save on battery, the phone runs at 245 while the screen is off. It's a great way to speed up your phone.

That was only because of the ads. I have those blocked now and there is no lag. When I said lag, I meant just a very very little bit when the birds where breaking something. It wasn't all the time

Compared to my 3gs my Evo reacts slowly when playing the nova demo. Angry birds runs fine... nova runs fine for you guys? Is this due to custom kernels?

Robo Defense kills my wife's EVO. She plays it with the battery charger plugged in and it still drains her battery. The other night she put the game on pause, exited it, put the phone on the charger and we went to bed. When we got up 8 hrs later her battery was dead and her home screen was partially on.
