Root sourcery 1.1 finally out

That blue theme on their website looks hideous, especially that lock screen.

Think from now on I'm sticking with Pete's, Blackdroid, Cyan .. they're really the standards anymore. Everything else is pretty much just a copy, there's very little innovation going on at the moment, and everyone just uses their stuff anyway. Then slap their gaudy "Please Donate" sigs all over the place. I really should learn how to compile all this crap together so I can beg for a couple hundred bucks.

I think these guys put together a very good rom that has a lot of new features not seen anywhere else, including BB and UD. And if you think about it, isn't most every rom just a copy of someone elses work with a few tweaks here and there?

Agreed. There's always room for improvement over the standard (Cyanogen, from my point of view). If the source is open and you can prove yourself by adding some new features then go for it. From what I can tell, this ROM is trying some really innovative things.

Cyanogen made a name for itself because they felt Android could be improved upon. Google's code is open for one reason: development is good.

If a ROM is bad, then the market will turn its back to it and forget it. No harm no foul as long as credit is given where it's due....and it is from what I can see.

I just wish they left the vanilla theme alone, or at least leave the option for the stock theme, and didn't slap "Sorcery" everywhere.

If you guys don't like Sourcery, don't use it! It's that simple. These guys worked VERY hard making this ROM and are trying to stay away from as much UD, CM, etc as possible. If they can't do it themselves, they don't have it in the ROM.
As for the themes... If you don't like them either make your own, or just don't use the ROM. It's what makes the ROM Sourcery. If you are looking for something unique, or just different but highly reliable and stable, this is definitely the ROM you should try. If you don't like it, don't complain or flame and go somewhere else. It does nothing but cause issues!

I liked this ROM and I was actually surprised that it didn't get more attention on this site. @Eagle, great job on the ROM, please dont let one person deter you from your work or this site. What Shadow fails to realize is that what he is saying is exactly the opposite of what Ive seen going on. While your ROM is fresh with innovations and new features it seems to me the other three are the ones falling behind the curve, keep up the great work.

Before this goes any further, please just stop now.

No further reactions are needed from either party and none from anyone who is a supporter of either party.

If you don't like the ROM, move on.

If someone posts negative comments about your work, answer professionally or leave it alone. We have plenty of mods here who can and will delete excessively bad posts. Trust me.

Hello i'm GFlam from droidforums and i'm sorry you didn't want to give us a shot. That is your choice to do so. Please do not bash us like this though until you have at least looked at it. If you end up not liking it that's fine but you don't have to say such mean things like that you can just keep to yourself and move on. We have each put a lot into this rom and have had many early mornings and late nights. We have never once asked for a donation and never plan to we each do this for fun. Please though if you do not like something you don't have to go on a rant bashing it just keep it to yourself and use whatever rom makes you happy. I am sorry you didn't want to give us a shot i think you would have really liked it but again it's ur choice.

We do our best to bring everything everyone wants and we answer every question that is asked to us. For instance someone stated they didn't like our themes so what did we do we posted a poll asking what people wanted and we put up a themers pack for anyone to theme for us so we could meet all wants. Someone stated your opinion that they didn't like the themes we had and wanted a stock gingerbread so what did we do we released a stock gingerbread yesterday. The vanilla theme isn't something that is in that high of demand so it's not there if it was in high demand we would surely bring it.

Lastly if you felt the need to leave your comments saying you didn't like it you should have said it more politely and at least tried the rom before posting your opinions.

Thanks johnlgalt, well said!

Now, I would like to add a few points. I am not going to delete ALL posts here because I think this serves as a good reminder to us all.

While this site remains pretty lenient with letting members post freely post their thoughts, I would strongly encourage (;) ;)) people to be respectful of other's thoughts and feelings. Especially when it comes to people that are trying to improve your device!

Developers (at any level) work to make our devices better and we should show our gratitude even if their contributions aren't ones that we personally desire to use. Imagine all of us with stock devices and no third party apps...Yikes!

Now I'm assuming that if you calculated the total amount of donations that the Dev team has received for this ROM and divided that by the total number of hours spent developing it...I'm willing to wager that financially speaking, they would have been better off working for minimum wage. No disrespect meant by that...just illustrating that ROM Devs usually get the SHAFT when it comes to getting donations for their efforts. If you appreciate their efforts, you should donate a few bucks to them and a "Thanks!" here or there probably wouldn't hurt either :)

I for one cannot even try your ROM (no OG Droid anymore :(), but I thank you for your contributions!

Now if you really want to discontinue posting at Android Forums because of a few comments...I don't really understand the logic in that, but you are of course welcome not to post here anymore. I DO NOT want to see that happen but I cannot force you to stay.

Edit...did need to delete one post...

rofl, you delete my post when I just defended myself against this thin-skinned "developer". My initial comment wasn't even a bash against this specific rom aside from mentioning the ugly theme, then he whines and attacks me. Whatever, pander to the dev if it makes everyone feel better.

I didn't even say anything that harsh except for "not everyone will kiss your ass."

I deleted your post because it was unnecessary. I agree that your first post did not seemed to be aimed specifically at the developers of this ROM. And while I understand the desire to "defend yourself", I wanted to stop this bantering before it got out of hand.

If you want to discuss this further, send me a PM.

Wow, Barely two weeks into the ROM scene and already drama. You're gonna go far, kid! lol

Anyway, just a quick lil review for those who want to give it a go. Everything booted and loaded fine, rather quickly. Restored vast majority of my apps.

All apps seem to be in working order. Only real problem I see is in the clock app, under alarms (was the same in the 1.0). Can't read what times you have listed, but going into them is no issue. I've only tried one theme, perhaps that makes a diff. (EDIT: ok, one more app prob. MotoTorch isn't working for me. Just get the lil camera clicking sound. If you want this ROM, but need a flashlight app, use TeslaLED).

Buttery smooth app, even at stock 600MHz. As fast and fluid as any I've put on my Droid, and that's including LFY and UD.

A lot of customizations, and that makes me a happy guy. Very easy to implement said customizations as well, makes me a happier guy.

Battery life is pretty damn good. My phone's been off the charger for about 14 hours now and I'm down to 60%. My phone usage has been pretty low considering how much my average is, but it's still be pretty significant.

Overall, this is a VERY good ROM. If you're feeling the flashing bug like many of us do, I highly recommend trying this ROM. Now that the bugs have been taken care of, there's no reason not to. Not every ROM will work great on every Droid, nor will they meet every users needs, but this will come pretty darn close. Think of it as UD without the guilt. I keed, I keed.

To those that remember RRS and RRI they know I was pretty strict at grading ROMs. I gave out one 5 the entire duration of it, and that was for LFY 1.7. I would have to say this ROM is even better than that, as it's just as smooth, just as good battery life, but even more options. And now that it's getting the popular themer's attention, and even more features to look forward, I suggest jumping on the bandwagon now.

MotoTorch:
One last thing just received and email from the developer of moto torch since I know someone earlier said that didn't work on our rom. The developer informed me that the app checks the build number to see what phone it is but a lot of developers including us change the number so that's why it didn't work. I just sent him the build number so moto torch will work for sourcery when he updates that.

That is another reason that I love this rom so much, because eagle and gflam take the time to listen to the users requests and are quick about helping when someone has problems. Hats off to the developers, I will be sticking with this rom for a very long time, its everything I want, great options, great themes, and a great development team. Thank you guys for all the hard work.

I think this rom is great and offers some unique and new features. I think if you have suggestions or constructive criticism, you should offer it, if not, don't waste the space on this site or waste our time having to scroll through it. I appreciate anyone taking the time to make our phones a little more fun and different from others. It really offends me when people say something on here that offers nothing to anyone other than to hurt the people who are spending time out of their lives to help make our phones better. If you like one rom over another, great. Use that one. Everyone has different taste. Just don't slam them for no reason. This has been one of the most stable Roms I have used. Just one small example, not sure why but every other rom when using sdmove to move apps to the SD card, gives me an error message and you have to try a second time to get it to move. Not so with this rom. Not sure why. I like the transitional effects too. My battery life has also been better on this rom. I'm sure I can say a lot of other positive things about this rom and hope that the expressed negativity doesn't stop the Sourcery team from continuing. I'm new to this and would CC gflam and eagle if I knew how. Happy new year everyone, I still love my phone!

I'm sure the kind words are appreciated. As it is, a lot of bandwidth here is just going back on forth on whether the dev is doing a good job and lots of personal opinions.

Here's what I had to say about that sort of thing in another forum:

I think that one thing to remember - and it's important - is that without the independent devs supporting everyone they can, the entire Android experience would just be so much ... less! ... for all of us.

They're essentially doing for free or peanuts what you pay dearly extra for from value-added phones - and the overall user experience is typically far superior to stock phones.

Here in this thread we have requests asking the user community for critical feedback. I find that that's not at all too much to ask - especially when the mainline vendors rarely do anything of the sort.

That said - there's no further need of bandwidth use voting over what the thread is for - it's already clear what the thread is for.

This isn't the wild west - this is a specialized thread.

Support your local dev community and use this thread as intended - otherwise, just lurk, that's ok too.

THANK YOU!

So - support your local devs, offer feedback and constructive criticism and praise - the first two they need, the second they deserve.
