Are there any games (there must be at least 1) that genuinely scared you? It could be classic jump scares, creepy atmospheres, and so forth.

I personally have a very difficult time playing scary games by myself but I don't mind my roommate playing it and him getting all freaked out, which is hilarious also.

I tried playing Dead Rising 2 last night but it was a bit too intense for me. The game played into my nightmares of 1) not being able to really run 2) being chased 3) being swarmed and trapped.

I'll put in another vote for Amnesia. My friend gifted me that game a week ago and I played it for 30 min with the lights on and still said f that! Haven't been back to it yet...not because it's a bad game...because it's f'n scary. Maybe when I'm in the mood.

I'm not a person that scares easy either. Most of the horror movies are a joke to me...few far and between will actually get me :/

Man, video game violence has really desensitized me, I have not found a single one that has messed with me since Resident Evil. Bioshock was not scary but I have to say I almost felt like....... claustrophobic? It was wierd. I was cured for Bioshock 2 though, go figure.
BTW two of the best games I ever played hands down especially Bioshock 1, what a great game.

the bioshock series isn't terribly scary but the first bioshock is in my top games list. awesome game. bioshock 2 was garbage imo.

forgot to add the F.E.A.R. series. fear 1> fear 2 by a mile though :/

i'll also add dead space in there. wasn't horribly frightening for me but i can see how it would be for others. still a great game either way.

and i'm still sticking with amnesia by a mile...over anything else.

I don't play any horror games, or any that could be classed as genuinely frightening. That said, when I first came across the Archvile in Doom II, I was underequipped and it was rather spooky.

Oh, and in a WAD for Doom, there was an Archvile on the first mission which jumped out of a dark, cramped corridor - all I had was a shotgun. A bit unfair, that one. I think it's called 'Claustrophobia: The Walls Are Closing In', or somesuch.

The joys of classic PC gaming! :D

i'm sorry, but that game was painfully awful. didnt play it first hand but watched a couple of hours of it. running around a mansion seeing the dumbest of evil characters and reading 4 dictionary's worth of text made me very critical!!

Gotta go with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Code Veronica. Loved that one. Dead Space was a good "OMG that scared the crap out of me" game....Doom III as well, no disagreement there.

I thought Dante's Inferno was just creepy in general. Nothing to make you pee your pants from being startled but the whole atmosphere was unsettling which made it an epic title.

Stalker Call of Pripyat made me jump more then once and made you feel a sort of desolate eerie feeling. Play it with the lights off.

CoP is the ONLY game where I ever felt "desolate"... Sure in RE, its tense.. in F.E.A.R. they make you lean right into the screen looking left and right with action scenes then BAM OMG WAH TEH EEF ?!?

But, any other game you pick up and put down a controller, in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. you grow a beard and drink vodka.

Snorks are bad.. But, Zombies are like 0.o.....

Zombies always get you in that game or can very easily... you are low health, low ammo and don't have night vision and you hear "UGGNNNN (russian in a slow eerie tone)"

Even the dogs.... my god...

If we are to seperate horror games up into atmosphere, shock value, and actual level of realistic horror.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CoP is probably the most immersive game I've ever played.

You can see yourself really being in the situation.. The atmosphere is so gritty and well... real... You bleed, you get hungry... you die.

You turn on a ligth at night... others can see you.. You use night vision, your the angel of death.

And you really feel as though you can actually end up dead in that desolate radioactive land where few return from.
