Yes, you have to root it if you want it similar to your original Droid. The Blur part of it is built into the system.

You could probably get it pretty close by using a customizable launcher like Launcher Pro or ADW. That would make it look similar to your original Droid... but if you want to remove the Blur that's built in, you need to root.

Yes you have to root it. The best way to do it is using an application called z4root. First, take the firmare update, then root. After that, you will have to buy an app in the market called droid X bootstrap so that you can make a nandroid backup before you install any new custom roms(I use gummyjar), wich will get rid of all your blur bs, and make your phone much faster. The Z4 root tool can be found on the Xda dev site. Good luck.

Mine really only gets hot when I start messing with the overclock script that comes with apex. If you do decide to root I would seriously consider trying that rom. Apex 1.3.1 from fab(coming from a d1 im sure you know who that is. He is always on his thread answering even the smallest of questions and even if he doesn't get to it there are a lot of peole that frequent that thread that are really helpful.

I would def want to remove blur so rooting will prob be what I do, but back to the overheating. It gets to hot to hold sometimes. Like if i start doing something in high demand like playing angry birds (which shouldnt be to much demand from my X) it gets extremely hot. Should I return it for another one?

Mine did the same thing the day I purchased it. I mean getting very warm to the touch. Called customer service and found all these apps and processes were running in the background. Shut some of them down, but of course not all are close-able.

Call customer service and try to resolve/document your problems.

I didn't have to replace my phone and the problem has not repeated itself.

Well I have advanced task killer so i should be killing most of the apps, but I guess i could try and give them a call.

get rid of the task killer and see what happens.

i know my phone gets hot when using gps nav, playing music, and charging all at the same time, especially when in the car dock. but that is quite a bit going on at the same time.

Get rid of task killer? I thought this was a must with any droid phone.
