US CELLULAR froyo

That's funny. I called US Cellular today and they told me that software updates are not and will not be provided by US Cellular and that I should contact HTC. I think the person I spoke with had no clue what I was talking about. They transferred me to technical support and I got the same answer again.

Anyone know where on the website the updates will be posted? This phone doesn't have an option to check for OTA updates. (Any idea if the update will enable OTA for the future updates?)

Just saw this update on the US Cellular Facebook page:

US Cellular Facebook Page said:
We're working with Samsung, HTC and LG to provide Froyo (Android 2.2) upgrades for all of our Android-powered phones. The Acclaim upgrade will be available by the end of next week, and customers with the Desire will be able to upgrade their device by the end of this month. The Apex and Mesmerize will be ready for upgrades around March. Download details coming next week. Thanks for your patience.

Dear xxxx

I appreciate you taking the time to write to us about the Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) Upgrade for your HTC Desire. I sincerely apologize for the delay in sending our response. I can understand how important it is to receive a prompt resolution for your request and I appreciate your patience for our reply.

xxxx, I see that you have been a customer with us since xxxx. I want you to know how much we appreciate your business. I know that you have many choices for a cell phone carrier and I feel very lucky that you have chosen us as your carrier. Thank you!

xxxx, we have been testing the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for all of our Android devices since Google released the code. Our engineers have been working very hard with the manufacturer to identify and resolve any potential issue and we hope to have the 2.2 (Froyo) update for your HTC Desire by January 31, 2011.

When the update becomes available your phone will indicate that a software update is ready. The software update will be listed on our website at
www.uscellular.com. Just click on "Smartphone Center" under "Phones and More". Then click on "Android" under "Smartphone Center" and the updates will be listed under the "Related Links" section. You will be able to download the updated operating system right from our website.

It is about time US Cell has posted something in print on Facebook. I only hope that now they are sure of keeping their word. As paying customers it long over due.

If you're frustrated, be happy you aren't with ATT and have a Captivate.

Samsung stated "by October" then "by the end of the year" then "soon". Meanwhile, ATT has said zero (officially).

I trust US Cellular a lot more at this point.

OK, had froyo for one day now (installed at USCC store)and I think I've got a minor issue. After running for a while the phone is now only showing e-mails and texts in the horizontal position and turning the phone vertical does not rotate the image. When it locks in that position I can shut the phone off and restart it and it works correctly for a little while and then locks into the horizontal layout. Anyone having the same issue and anyone found a fix yet?

It's official. I have a problem with auto rotate on my desire after an update to froyo by a USCC tech. I will have to take the phone back in tomorrow and see if they can fix it by re-installing the froyo update. Gotta go through about 4 hours of work getting the phone back to my setup then. What a pain in the butt. It took US Cellular six months to get the update out and it still has problems.
