Nexus S Batt Life

Guys

Purchased a Nexus S, set up as a basic phone, 2 x GMail accounts, IMO for IM running in BackGround, nothing else syncing and I am barely clearing 14 hours before batt is flat. It is nowhere near as good as my previous IPhone 4, and not as good as people claim on here

I have made sure Picasa is not syncing and I am going to get a spare batt to eliminate that as an issue.

I am on Orange, in a good signal area and switch off everything when not in use, I can contrast this with my Iphone which I can use all day at home with Wifi and it loses batt life around 11pm, the NS loses by around 4pm! Both phones switched on at 8-30ish

I am just looking for some real world comparisons out there

Thanks

Kerry

I was home sick this past weekend (so I was stuck at home) and was able to get about a day and a half out of my NS with 1 Gmail acct., 1 POP3 acct., WiFi on, Fring running in the background for Google & AIM chat. I checked Facebook on it every couple of hours, but the battery seemed to hold pretty well. Please note that I completely drained the battery twice when I first got the phone. I know we don't have to do this, but it's just an old habit.

I wanted to add, phone was unplugged from my charger at around 10am and I didn't plug it back in until 8pm the next night.

I had better results on my battery life today. Started yesterday with a full charge @ 7 AM. Handful of phone calls (+10) and text messages (40+ incoming & outgoing) and browsing a few websites and used XDA app.

Was down to 40% at 10 PM before I went to sleep. Left it without charging to see how far it will hold up. And it still had 20% in the morning.

My settings were, made sure I put the phone on 2G when I don't use the web, GPS turned off, and turned off Wifi when I didn't use it.

Install os monitor from the market and set it to sort the processes by load with highest at the top and don't hide system processes, and display CPU usage in notification bar so you can see when it's using a lot of CPU. I did find init spinning a few times, fixed by enabling USB debugging in the application settings area. Generally I find the battery to be a great improvement on my previous phones. I don't disable anything at all.

I've only had the 'phone since last Friday, but managed to get 48hours out of a single charge on Monday/Tuesday. And this is running the default active background, one GMail account, the Twitter widget and YouTube widget. I made about a dozen (short) calls, sent a lot of E-mail and did a fair bit of browsing and general playing around.

Impressed so far.

I dont to be honest and skeptical you can get that, I am barely clearing 11 hrs and that is with nothing other than email operating on push.

Performance is significantly worse than an Iphone for me

I will get it changed to today to eliminate a potential fault as a problem

Thanks to everyone for feedback keep it coming

Here's a bit more info on my 62% remaining after 12 hours. When I first got my phone, I did not charge it until it was down to about 10%. I then let it charge fully, uninterrupted (basically over night). I repeated the cycle onces more, draining it below 10% and charging it again fully.

It was kind of a pain, considering I couldn't copy files to it via USB. I used SwiFTP and FileZilla to copy files around and help drain the battery a bit at the same time. There isn't really any significant evidence that training the battery like this helps, but I figure it's a small price to pay that could improve battery life for the life of the device.

Theoretically, you should be able to "train" the battery at any point. I actually like to go through the whole charge cycle thing every few months just to keep it healthy. Give that a shot and see if it helps...It might not though, considering yours is draining literally twice as fast as mine.

Edit: More info. My Gmail is in push mode. Twitter updates every 15 minutes. Facebook updates whenever I open the app. Weather updates every 2 hours or whenever the screen is turned on, including GPS location. 3G signal at my house (where I was most of the day today) is about -100 dBm 5asu, aka 2-3 bars. Background data is enabled.

i think it also depends on your 3g signal. i noticed when i'm in poor 3G signal (you can check by examining the graph and color bars from the Battery Usage) you'll notice your battery drain quicker. and terrific 3G areas, marked in Green, you'll notice the slop level off more slowly.

The bars turn green when you're connected to Google's services. It doesn't have anything to do with signal strength; that's just shown by the number of bars.
