hello all I'm new here and to android and The speaker on the ascend is fine not too loud not too soft but when I plug in the headphones that came with the phone its too low I can barely hear my music should I buy some new headphones or is there something I can do about it?

yeah it kinda stinks I like the phone and I was happy to finally be able to listen to pandora on my way to work and school but if i can hear everyones conversation better than my music then thats not cool...I was thinking of just buying a 2.5 - 3.5 mm adapter and some in-ear headphones but if the sound is still low I don't want to waste my money

hmmm well actually i did buy a 2.5 to 3.5 or (3/32 to 1/8) adapter at radioshack for 9.99 BUT there is a problem... even though the adapter is a 4 conducter im only getting mono sound out of it... also i bought a 3 conducter and it did the same thing.. just mono on the other side .. And last but not least it has to be able to fit all the way down on the plugin... a couple i looked at and have tryed wouldnt seat or plug all the way in due to the recess of the plug... Hope that all made sense.

one off of ebay but now they started to die out on me i was thinking about bluetooth headphones but they are too expensive and I want to know they will be loud enough for me

I've had the same experience with the 4pole adapter, I only get mono through 1 ear and nothing in the other ear.

I regular 3 pole adaptor works fine, but loudness is an issue for me mostly when I'm driving and I can plug the phone into the aux in on the car. Once I start moving the road noise drowns out the phone even when the stereo and phone are turned all the way to max. It's really annoying.

I have come up with 1 thing that helps. Download Astro Player and turn the equalizer settings all to MAX. This has the effect of amplifying the phone. It's still not loud enough but it's better.

In the free version of Astro Player there are 2 ways to access the equalizer, one of them tells you the feature isn't available in the free version and the other way works. Experiment til you figure that out.

Also, does anyone know if rooting a phone will let you increase the max volume?? That might make it worth while.

I bought the 4.99 adapter that UnSmartphone mentioned.....The adapter works great with my skullcandy headphones the only problem is when I try to listen to my music from my phone in my car using the Aux cable I only hear Mono and not Stereo. IDK Why it sounds fine on my skullcandy headphones but once i break out the aux cable all I hear is shitty mono....maybe I should try looking for an aux cable that goes from 3.5 to 2.5 that would probably fix the problem

I was having the same problem. But I just found how to solve it.
1st go to settings - sounds and display
Then media volume ... And problem solved. Hope this helped. :)

I think the original poster thinks that even at Max media volume, it is still low. The best solution as of now is poweamp. The other is to wait for cyanogen to be ported to ascend so we can change devicevolume output settings

I bought a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter on ebay for like $1.67 free shipping. I did not try it yet though nor have tried the ones that came with the phone. This is probably because I have a ipod touch as well, and that is usually what I use when I lay in bed at night, and go on youtube, or netflix. I prob most likely won't ever use my ascend for youtube or anything like that until metro converts it to 4g. I mean, I could use wifi, but my touch blows away the ascend with battery life when watching youtube. I wish the ascend has the touches battery life, we would be set
