I have taken liberty to hijack this thread. This is a summary of why when LP expired and why you were unable to use your phone and were only able to use the browser. Issues came up since people did not have internet access and were not able to update the app.

Please note that the expiration on LP was removed on the latest release in December. There are some Custom ROMs that use the older LP version and this might be one reason why members are seeing this. Technically if you have the latest version of LP you should not see this. This is only for LP and not customers who purchased LP+.

This thread is meant to be for support for those with this issue. If you want to discuss how Fede should have done this or any other kind of debate, please post here. I will have this thread cleaned so it's not so clutter :)

Solution and explanation from Fede

As for the expiration problem, that's partly an oversight on my part. See, the expiration comes from the beta days of LauncherPro, where I had that in place to keep people from using stalled/unsupported versions of LP. The intention was never to "take over" the phone, when LauncherPro starts, it checks for expiration, and if it's past the expiration it will close itself and send the user to my website to download the latest version.
That's where my mistake was, because I didn't realize that if the user has LauncherPro set as the default launcher, after closing itself, it will try to open again, creating a "loop" of closing and opening again.
I should note that the expiration was already removed in the latest version available (0.8.2), so the problem is only affecting users with older versions of LP. Expiration is gone for good so this will never happen again.

Here are some of the best solutions from the members:
i got the same problem just two days ago
unfortunately,i had NO WIFI,3.5G.

so i stared to search on some Forums for it.

here's the thread that the first posted

yeah i had no internet conection,so the solutions in it were totally not working!

BUT!

i got a perfect one for those are in the same situation with me:

in your computer,go to Launcher Pro's website:

download the latest version 0.8.2
(which they said that they had remove the expiration)

then just store in your sdcard

take out your phone, just stay what you have,a browser yeah?

write:

file:///sdcard/**********.apk

(where you put the .apk file and its name)

(".apk"is the post important thing.it'll fail if you didn't write it )

for example,i donloaded it without rename it.

and i just put it directly in the sdcard.

f:/launcherpro-0.8.2.apk
(where i put in my computer)

then the thing i wrote in my android browser:
file://sdcard/launcherpro-0.8.2.apk

that's all.

thanks for the idea, however for some unknown reason this did not work for me. the package wouldn't open through the browser of my Nexus One. here is how I got it fixed, not sure if this is the easiest way but I thought it might be worth sharing as there seem to be many people stuck with this problem.

please bear in mind that I'm not a pro when it comes to development nor even using SDK, so this is probably a somewhat unprofessional method of fixing it, but at least it got my phone working!

SOLUTION 2

for this fix, you need to have usb debugging mode enabled. you should be able to access this setting when you plug in your phone, through the notification bar.

1. if you don't have it, download Android SDK from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
you also need the latest java kit, the installation software will tell you if you don't have it.

2. follow the instructions on that site to install the tools and the latest USB drivers which will function with SDK: http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html

3. once installed, add the SDK tools to your systems PATH environment variables. see appendix 1.

4. go to command prompt. type in "adb" and hit enter. this should bring up a list of functions of the adb tool. if this works, you are ready to install the package.

5. make note of the location where you have the Launcher Pro package on your computer (C:\ is easiest). type in the following command in the command prompt: adb install -r C:\LauncherPro-0.8.2.apk

this should reinstall the package, and bring up the option on your phone to boot either the stock Launcher or Launcher Pro. I reccomend the former.
personally, at this point I uninstalled Launcher Pro through my phone and will never trust any software by this developer.

APPENDIX 1: updating PATH

Adding both tools/ and platform-tools/ to your PATH lets you run command line tools without needing to supply the full path to the tool directories. Depending on your operating system, you can include these directories in your PATH in the following way:

•On Windows, right-click on My Computer, and select Properties. Under the Advanced tab, hit the Environment Variables button, and in the dialog that comes up, double-click on Path (under System Variables). Add the full path to the tools/ and platform-tools/ directories to the path.

•On Linux, edit your ~/.bash_profile or ~/.bashrc file. Look for a line that sets the PATH environment variable and add the full path to the tools/ and platform-tools directories to it. If you don't see a line setting the path, you can add one:
export PATH=${PATH}:<sdk>/tools:<sdk>/platform-tools

•On a Mac OS X, look in your home directory for .bash_profile and proceed as for Linux. You can create the .bash_profile if you don't already have one.

I tried to download the new version of launcher pro as it said I had to, no way around it. I download and try to install but I need to turn on installing outside apps, so I do that, but now I can not get to anywhere to install the app now, and going to launcherpro.com on my phone only brings up 403 forbidden and some ghost gator hosting splash screen....

What gives, what do I do now? I can not get to my settings or anything even. I can't even change from using launcher pro???
I can't even leave a comment on his site or find an email because everything just 403 errors on me.

There are a couple of things you can do (although I'm wondering why the plus version "expired" if that's what you have).

In the application manager you can uninstall LP then reboot (sometimes just going to the home screen) to be given the choice as to your launcher; ADW and TWZ will likely be there in the pop up prompt.

Another way is to just go into task manager and remove LP with the same result.

A guy here at work is having the same issue. When he hits the home button it tells him that Launcher Pro has expired and to download the newest version. No matter what he does it won't come off of the browser page. Can't go to settings or anything. Like above, the phone is useless. Can't make calls or even receive calls.

Here is the solution for those who still have problems :

On your android phone : launch the Internet browser (I am using Dolphin Browser). Actually it's the only thing you can do... In the settings of the browser you may be able to change the "User Agent" ("Android" by default) and select "Desktop" (or everything else) instead of "Android".

Now try to go on launcherpro.com : it must work.
