Not 100% sure if its android i am disappointed with or the x10 (being my 1st touch screen) but i do like some of the apps like logmein etc

who knows what will be about in 12 months....dual / quad core phones - even though there is info about dual core phones now!

i said i would never buy another SE but i had the X1 and it was a let down. i got the X10 and i liked it but SE are very lousy with updates and that was my reason for not getting another but in all fairness the build of the phone is amazing, i had issues with my first one but it was more accidental damage than the phone failing itself.
and in modified state the X10 is by far one of the best phones i have used so i will more than likely give them another try as they seem to be aware people werent happy with the time it took them to give us upgrades.
and the arc looks awesome so i'm sure once the devs hack into it, it can be made even better.

Just as added information, this is from Rikard Skogbergs blog

Hi all,
.
First – As a clarification regarding the current Xperia products – We are planning another upgrade to bring new features (such as for example multi-touch for Xperia X10) to the current family of Xperia™ smartphones in Q1 2011. However, at this stage those plans do not include updating the underlying Android version.
.
This decision is based on that we believe that with the current hardware platform an overhaul of the underlying core OS wouldn’t drastically improve the user experience.
We believe that the current Xperia range on Android 2.1 coupled with our proprietary upgrades and unique hardware delivers a user experience that is on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of Android 2.2.
.
Our priority right now is to keep enhancing the user experience of the existing products through coming updates and to deliver a fantastic range of smartphones in 2011 that are all on the latest possible version of Android – that is a target we are determined to hit!

Come one guys, do you honestly expect them to pursue continually updating an older model when new technology is the way forward with a new advanced phone? Do any of you actually understand the technology market??????!!!!!!!

I often despair at the level of constant whining and pathetic SE jibes here. It's technology, get with it guys, things change, buy a new phone if you don't like the 1yr old X10.

I'm disappointed in SE for dropping any major support for it, at the very least it would have been nice if they dropped it when it got to 2.2/2.3 due to significant performance increases.

The device is just about 9 months old and if you think about it, PR screwed up by mentioning it after announcing a new device. Was all for the Arc but now, i'm not too sure about it due to support.

Still have to find a way to get an early hardware upgrade though :/

What pisses me off about this " no more updates" bull is that the arc is similar in parts to the xperia, its not some mega jump in tech that the OS needs a twin processor or x amount of ram. I was annoyed at how long it took to get 2.1 on my phone, but this is a joke!!! I like my phone, its still a great piece of kit but Sony seem to be playing a weird game?!

If you took a minute to read this thread and look around, you would know that the Xperia Arc is EXACTLY the same as the X10, except it has a bigger screen. From the information we have so far, same processor, same amount of memory or AT MOST 512 MB is a possibility in the future. Video card, processor, same thing. 8.1 MP Camera, same thing. This is the same phone! It would take a few days at most to make the software compatible with the X10, and I suspect if it wasn't for some proprietary coding, it could work out of the box.

I would be happy if they would just release Android 2.2 for Xperia and then they can stop if they want to.

Because having flash on the phone would be just awesome.
I will be stuck with my Xperia X10 for quite a while (Next update is due in about 16 months)

Flash would make the phone perfect for me and I will be 'future proof' with my phone.

I'm sorry but just a couple of gripes

Video card - not the same - now Bravia Mobile processor included
Processor - not the same (although still 1ghz Qualcomm) - current 8250, new 8255/8655
8.1mp Camera - not the same (except the mp) - now including Exmor CMOS sensor

although i do stand that yes the X10 could be made to run the same software, its the COST of upgrading all the relevant kits worldwide that Sony Ericsson feel is unviable

So SE is pulling the same ole song! Boy does this song sound familiar or what, LOL! Like I have said in the past, this is the last SE device I will ever own! However, I am very lucky to have a forum like this one for support and of course the XDA community! So, I will continue to stay as update as I can through these channels. This at least will get me through my 2 year commitment. After that I will take great pleasure in (*)YV L@KVFO~"*Y#O*) up this phone, LOL....

Boy have you all noticed the out cry via replies on the OP's link? Wow, that is an out cry in a major way!!!!

I don't see what the big problem is - honestly

2.1 works fine, yes, 2.2 would run on the X10 but phones do have a shelf life, most don't keep past 12 months, 18 tops (unless in old N.A. where most are tied into 24mth contracts)

What you have to really consider is that although the X10 was a flagship device, as Sony's first step into Android, it was only a prototype

As such, MOST prototype handsets don't get updated beyond a certain level - apple as an example are no longer supporting the first iPhone's - and yes i know, it was 2.5 yrs before they stopped - but the reason they could wait longer is that they have no fragmentation of OS software

As it appears SE are going to take the ARC to 2.4 (hopefully quickly if that OS emerges) then their cost effectively doubles, trebles or quadruples if they update the 100's of "kits" on the X10 family, X8 and the ARC

Look at sonys product blog to see how many kits they actually have Update Roll-Out Started Also for Xperia X8 | Product Launch Blog

Each and every kit involves its own testing, legal negotiation etc etc and this ALL costs money

As they have been operating at a loss for a while and just starting to get into profit, it make simple business sense to fully support OS updates to new phones, and operational updates to the older OS's as its the cheapest option for them

And yes thousands of people will disagree with me, more will be disappointed, but seriously, look at your personal life, we all look for the cheapest option for ourselves, why can't company's do the same ???

The problem is that in Canada we're stuck with 3-year contracts
well learn to root your phone and install custom roms.

this is the first phone i've ever been able to upgrade the firmware, most phones are stuck with the sofware they are shipped with so really, maybe you should look into it more before you buy the phone.
SE promised 2.1 and they delivered it they will also be releasing updates over time to help with its running.
they never once said we would get an official 2.2 so quit moaning and get over it.
