[APP help] Launcher pro expired and will not download update

Speaking of Default Select pop-up, any idea how to get it to come back after picking a default launcher so you can choose which launcher to use again?

Go to Settings then Applications, Manage Applications and say LPP is the default, go into that and choose Clear Defaults. That should get you back to the screen to let you choose etc

This is happening to me as well. Here's the problem re-phrased:
. LauncherPro is the designated Home application
. LauncherPro has decided that it has expired and every time the Home screen is attempted to be accessed, it instead launches the browser with the launcher pro web site
. The LauncherPro website has been taken down by its hosting company

So, i can't get to the home screen, to run Home Switcher, to specify a different Home App, and I can't get to the home screen to run the App Market, and the idiot's website is down.

--Update--
It appears that the home page of his website is up, his forums are down. I might be able to install the apk (... and since i can't get to the Home screen, i can't get to my settings to turn on WiFi -- stuck with 2-bar Edge.. ). I realize this is free software, so who am i to complain... but this guy just rocketed past Pol Pot on the list of worst humans ever.

That is unfortunate but I suspect his web server woes are a result of the thousands of redirects as you describe above.

Now unless you specifically removed the other home launcher you should be able to go to Setting..Applications..All.. Launcher Pro and click the Remove "Launch by default for some actions" button which should then allow you to select the default or any other home replacement you have installed next time you press the home button.

I've moved this to the android application forum. This seems like a but with LP

If you have access to the LP forum later, check out this thread

Here's the post from Fede on the issue:
That's my bad actually, I didn't realize that if you had an old LP Beta set as your default, you wouldn't be able to use it to open the market to download a newer version after it expired.

Future versions will automatically send you to the market to get the new version. At this point, the only thing you can do is install ADB and use it to install a newer version, or use ADB to uninstall LP and then install from the market again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1SOSXwkc_8 (You don't need Daemon tools like it says on the video).

The ADB command to uninstall LP is
Code: Select all adb uninstall com.fede.launcher
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I didn't realize there was an expiry date as I have the LP+ version but found this thread stating why he put an expiry date:
Free versions expire for mainly two reasons:

1) To avoid having to offer support for outdated versions. It makes matters a lot more complex if you have to try and solve someone's problem if they are using an old version. I haven't kept the source code for old versions so I cannot see what would cause the problem (and since the problem might have been fixed in a later update, there's obviously no need to look for a solution).

2) In case I ever decide to sell LauncherPro (as a whole) to a company, or if I decide to stop offering a free version, it wouldn't be good to have a bunch of free versions floating around.

Anyways...got to say I'm quite disapointed in Fede with the way he's dealt with this.

A couple of days ago I started seeing the message "Launcher Pro will expire in 3 days. Please go to (LP web site) to download the newest version." The message would appear on the screen for a few seconds whenever I hit the Home button, and then disappear and all would work fine.

Instead of going to the LP web site to DL an .apk I went in to the Marketplace and updated LP from there (I had been avoiding updating).

I'm using the free version, not the paid version.

For the OP, can you get in to Settings > Applications > Application Manager? You can scroll down to LauncherPro and clear the default there, so it is no longer the default home launcher. Then the next time you press your Home button, you should be asked which launcher to use. You can choose your original launcher and make it the default.

as for people being redirected to a "Host Gator" site, Hostgator is a web host. They are legit (I host a few of my web sites with HG). I'm guessing you were seeing a default HG redirect page because something was wrong with the Dev's site?

LauncherPro can't get expired. The license is permanent. Once you purchase it, it's yours forever. There's no trial period either. If you don't have the license, you just don't have access to the Launcherpro widgets and some other functions.

So the question is - What on earth did you install on your phone?

He had the free version, not the paid version.

When I unlock my phone, I get a message that says "this message of launcher pro has expired. Please visit..."

I cannot do ANYTHING else. I can't go to my home screen, launch the android market place, nothing.

On the web page I am "visiting" it does not show how to get the latest version.

It has "captured" my phone.

Anything I can do?

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

would the best thing to do is bring it to the sprint store?

They won't do anything for you, it's a 3rd party app, so they wouldn't consider it their problem. They would most likely tell you to do a hard reset of your phone (thus losing everything).

See my post above. If you can get in to the Applications Manager, you can stop LP from being the default launcher. Go back to your original home launcher, then go to the Marketplace and update LP.

Hmmm.... just looked in to the marketplace listing (link above) and it seems a lot of people have this problem. It is possible the marketplace update won't work anymore if people didn't update before the expiration?

At this point, your best bet seems to be if you can get in to Application Manager you can uninstall LP. Otherwise, you might have to do a hard reset if you can get to it.

I had this with my sisters phone. couldn't do ANYTHING but go on the internet (which took me to the Gator site too). Here is what I did: Click on the 'search' button and go to
launcherpro.com/market.html
You SHOULD see a 'click here' link, click it :) (this will open LauncherPro in the market). Download LauncherPro from there (this resolved the problem).
If it works, I would download ANOTHER Launcher (such as ADWLauncher), so if one fails you have a backup.

Is there a way i can go to Settings not from the Home screen application? (Basically - i am able to run the browser on my phone, and that is it.)

Can you access the LP website to get the latest update?

This is from the LP site:
Click here to download the APK file

Hopefully by installing the update one, your phone function again.

Searching the LP Forum and came across this helpful tip from a member there for this app. Home Manager allows you to switch / uninstall / kill home. So might come in handy for you later if you have this LP problem again.

I had the same issue, and ended up downloading it directly from here: http://www.launcherpro.com/apk/LauncherPro-0.8.2.apk

Once it downloaded, I could install it from the pull-down notifications bar on my Droid 2.

In my case, I had my phone set to not allow installation of apps from sources other than the android market, so I was (luckily) bumped to "settings", which i was unable to access before. I uninstalled the old version of launcher pro, enabled installation of apps not from the market, and reinstalled the new version of launcher pro. I had to reorganize the icon layout on my home screens, but my phone otherwise works fine now. So it was a little clumsy, but worth it.

Totally worked for my Eris. I used my search button to get to the Settings menu to enable Install apps not from Market.

I walked to find some 3G and tried this - it wouldn't let me install it because of my security settings, *but* Android did let me open my Settings from the warning panel and from there i was able to delete this shite app. So i have my phone functionality back again - thanks * 8.

Good to hear that you were able to uninstall this app :)
Good lord what a total fark-up from what is normally a great application. Non-techies essentially have a useless phone.. what a nightmare!
lol, tell me about that :/ So so disapointed in Fede.

Now the website is reachable, but still not the forums. More to the point, what have people done to make this happen to their installation of LauncherPro - because I'm having no issues at all.

I have not been able to ferret out an answer to that. I've been all over the various forums looking for something about it, and all that comes up is 90% beta expiration reports (mostly last Fall) and about 10% this same issue.

I have been using LP Plus since it came out with zero issues.

It's only the FREE LauncherPro that will have this issue. Fede put a date expiration (or something) on the phone and forces you to update to the latest FREE version. If you have the paid version, you will not have this issue. From the latest thread that Fede posted on this from issue on the LP forum, it seems that Fede put an alert of when your Free version will expire.
