Help itunes on evo???

so I just bought my wife an Evo. she's an Itunes user. do any of these methods allow you to play DRM protected mp3's.

I hate itunes and I'm not a fan of apple at all. but apple is pretty much all she uses.

I'm guessing there is no way to play her music on the evo with removing the DRM, correct?

Correct.

The Apple method is to transcode your DRM'd files to a CD, then re-import your music. It's lossy.

You can find various gray-market solutions to strip DRM from iTMS files - but pretty much all they do is just introduce a virtual CD on the Mac and run the same process.

Assuming these are old iTMS purchases at 99 cents, you should be able to trade them in for another 30 cents and get a tune with a higher bitrate and no DRM.

FWIW - Just because it's in iTunes doesn't mean it's DRM'd - that's a common myth. If bought with DRM from the iTMS in the earlier days, then it's slathered with FairPlay DRM as AAC files.

If they're just songs ripped with iTunes, then they're DRM-free and just about any x-fer method will work.

I'm lazy - I drag&drop over USB even though I have all of this other stuff installed (our music library in the house in on a central iTunes server).

Another myth is that AAC is an Apple format - no need to transcode to MP3 if you don't want to - things like Meridian can play all of the reduced codecs that Apple spits out. I understand all of the better players now can as well.

Thanks Earlymon, yeah I know some of here stuff is ripped without DRM. I was just wondering if there was a player that might be able to play some of the DRM stuff.

Yeah I'm not going to go through her music library for her. and she's not going to bother. I don't think I'll ever pull her away from her dedicated ipod anyway.

She uses a nano to play music while she works out/jogs. and only wants to play audible books while driving. so no real need to go through her library at this time. plus we have sirius in both cars anyways.

so I guess that's that....

Apple, as you might guess, keeps its FairPlay DRM close to their vest. They're a hardware company first and foremost, no need for them to share so other hardware can benefit.

I got an iPod nano as a gift at work several years ago, so I was appreciative of it as a gift - I'd been listening to FM over a tiny micro radio I'd scored in Japan. Took me a few weeks to turn the nano on. Gradually, I liked it, I use it for _long_ plane rides with my noise-canceling headphones, sometimes put it up with the old roadster's stereo, it's convenient. Everything has its use, I guess. Mostly, I just enjoy our local FM classical station on my Evo - you want shuffle, nothing beats the radio, and some old dogs never really change too much. :)

Just wanted to add my vote for iSyncr and iSyncr WiFi. I use it with my Mac. It works great -especially the WiFi. I did have a little trouble understanding how to setup the WiFi version but after a quick email to the dev - he set me straight. DoubleTwist is iTunes devil cousin and sucks IMO. Doesn't transfer smart playlists. It tried to be iTunes for Android but fails. Just because its UI looks like iTunes doesn’t mean it acts like iTunes when syncing, etc.

Also, Apple stopped putting DRM copy protection on their songs a while back.

I've been using audiogalaxy for the last month or so and had no problems at all. It does not seem to use too many resources or put a big battery drain on the phone. It also found a lot of art work that was missing from my iTunes list which was a bonus. You can also check other users and see what they are listening to. Pretty neat little app and has a handsome interface. Plus, it's free.
