Firstly I'd like to say thanks because I learned a bunch from these forums and others like it. So I got a Vortex for christmas, having never before owned a smartphone or any mobile device aside from a pink moto razr. Love it so far. Was able to root it, clean up Bing/bloatware, default search to google, and set it to a powersave profile with SetCPU. The battery life is impressive.

Like I said, never had a device like this before so it's hard for me to compare it to any of the others, but so far it's been awesome. Everything just works and was super easy to figure out. Looks good, feels good in your hand, the buttons feel right. It took me a day or two of fiddling with it to get everything set how I want, but now it does everything I want it to.

Could you post some sort of guide on how you removed all the bloatware from your Vortex? I tried doing it using suggestions from others, but for whatever reason I have not been able to remove all these junk programs. What program did you use to root the phone and to remove the apps?

Use Z4root to root the phone, then install Titanium Backup to remove the bloat.

Download from here: http://ted.servepics.com/nap/droid/z4root.1.3.0.zip

Rename the file to .apk instead of .zip, and place the file on your SD card.

If you don't have Astro or ES File Explorer, download one of them from the market, open the program, then go in to the SD card and click on the icon for the file, and it'll install.

I have been helping someone in androidforums irc channel to get the vortex running 2.2.1 rooted. We tried z4root, superoneclickroot, and rageaginstthecage. (Both z4 and superoneclick use rageaginstthecage.) and all three methods failed.

So if any of you are running 2.2.1 and cant get rooted then youd likely need to downgrade your firmware back to the original until someone gets it figured out.

Please see below ;)

Does the zip file need to remain compressed, or should it be unzipped before renaming it?
