App that can let certain contacts break through silent mode?

Usually I turn my Desire HD off at night, however, when one of my kids is out, I like to keep it on, but... I don't want to hear calls or sms or whatsapp from others...! Is there an app that will enable specific contacts to ignore the silent mode...?

I have never used that app though, but sounds like exactly what you're trying to do.

I know you can do this with WhoIsIt. It lets you set a good deal of variables for individual contacts.

I use something called Auto Ring. It's free and it takes up minimal storage space on your phone. The app lets you set a "white list" of contacts, and these will ring even if the phone is in silent mode. I silence my phone at night, but I use this to let calls through from my immediate family.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I settled for another app someone adviced me elsewhere: Silent Tme Lite (free). Works like a charm. You can setup a so called Event which puts the phone in silent mode (with or without vibration): you can choose any day (or all) of the week and you can set the time the phone should be in silent mode during that day. After that you can enable or disable the Event. When it is disabled nothing will happen and when it is enabled, it will put the phone in silent mode during the times and days you specified. And then you can add Exceptions: contacts that can override the silent mode.

So I used the app in a slightly other way: I made a profile that when it is activated ALWAYS silences the phone, every day of the week, and then I added my kids as an exception. So now I only have to activate that profile and 1. the phone is in silent mode and 2. my kids can still reach me. Exactly what I wanted! When the mode is on you also see an icon in the top bar of the phone. Great stuff.

Smart Silencer allows you to select contacts that are able to ring through while all other contacts or non-contact numbers get silenced. This includes phone calls to text messages (optional). All silenced call history and text messages remain intact. Smart Silencer may be turned on and off manually or on a configurable time schedule. The status of Smart Silencer can be viewed on the top of your phone at all times.
