Hi everyone -

Two days ago I went out and purchased the G-Tablet. I had the intention of installing a custom rom on it but I am having trouble.

I was attempting to using the steps below. I installed Z4root with no issues.

I then skipped the installing of ClockwordMod to make this as simple as possible.

After I downloaded the Vegan Rom I was a little confused on what to do.

Do I just rename the folder update.zip or do I actuall unzip the file first.
If I uzip the file I get the main folder then within that folder the files are

- boot.img
-system.img
and another folder called META-INF.

I was also confused on where to put the File/folders. It says to the put them on the internal memory. When I connect the G-Tablet to my computer I only have the option of putting stuff on the /Sdcard1 folder? Does this seem right. Is this the internal memory on the tablet?

Any help would be great as this tablet is pretty much useless with the current OS.

Thanks everyone. I am at work and will not be able to mess around with this until I get home.

HOW TO: Root, Install ClockworkMod*, Load a Custom ROM, Fix the Market, and Update Flash

1. download Z4root with your tablet (it is not available in the market any more, but you can download the .apk here)
2. use the included ES File Explorer to navigate to the .apk file you just downloaded, click on the icon and you should be prompted to install
3. go into settings -> applications -> development -> check the "usb debugging" box
4. run Z4root, it is pretty self explanatory but click "permanent root" when it asks
5. *this step is optional, but recommended.* install ClockworkMod Recovery using the guide here. if you choose to do this, refer to the alternate version of instructions after step 7.
6. choose a ROM, there are 4 good ones out right now (Cyanogen, TnT lite, VEGAn, Z-Pad). Make sure to do your reading on them, as there are benefits and issues with each.
7. download your ROM of choice and save this file to your computer/laptop (NOT TABLET)

*ClockworkMod users, see alternate instructions posted below from this point on.* all others, continue.

8. depending on your choice, you will need to either extract the .RAR file on your computer (resulting in an Update.zip and Recovery folder) or use your computer to rename the ROM file as Update.zip. this is where your reading will come in handy.
9. connect your gTab to your computer, turn on usb storage, and move the update.zip and recovery folder (if available) to the internal memory. do not put them in any other folder, just directly into the top folder of internal memory.
10. turn off USB storage, disconnect from your computer, and power down the gTab
11. hold the volume + button and the power button to boot into recovery. you can let go when you see the gold "ANDROID" text.
12. your gTab should now automatically load your new ROM (this could take up to 5 minutes, you will know it has worked as soon as it reboots because your bootscreen/homescreen will be different and you will now have a SuperUser icon)
13. go here and follow the intructions to fix the android market.
14. go here and download the Adobe Flash update. it is an apk file, so save it to your tablet and install it just like you did with z4root in steps 1 and 2.

if you want to use VEGAn without Clockwork, you will need to rename the file you downloaded as update.zip instead of extracting it.

internal memory shows up as Sdcard1 with the Gtab, so move the file to the very top directory of that folder, disconnect from your computer, power down, and reboot into recovery (volume + and power button). this should immediately begin loading VEGAn on your device.

Thanks so much. I will try this when I get home. I believe I already tried this one time and the only thing that happened is it kept booting into the the Box with the progress bar. Never saw the Gold Android thing.

Maybe I was using the wrong file.

I really appreciate the help!!!!

box with the progress bar is a good thing. it shows the gold android text for less than a second, so don't worry if you miss it.

I think you will also need a recovery folder with a command file. Follow these steps to get the update.zip method to work. But I strongly suggest that you get familiar with clockwork recovery if you don't know about it already.

Hi,
I also have same problem. I've installed clockworkmod and took up backup of my g tab. Now when I extract VEGan rom.zip I got same files. How to install VEGan with clockworkmod? This may be stupid /repeated question but I want to understand before what I'm doing without damaging my device.

Thanks

With the vegan ROM, leave the contents in the zip folder. No need to extract the contents.

Mount the internal SD card and move the vegan.zip file to it. Unmount it, power down (this is where I removed the external SD card... just in case) and go into CWM Recovery. From there, you will:

(a) Wipe data/Factory reset
(b) Wipe cache
(c) Install ROM from SD card - choose ROM - select the .zip and YES
(d) Once you're back to Recovery (after install), go to partitions and partition the internal SD card at (option 1) 2048 and (option 2) 0.
That will take a WHILE.

Once back in Recovery, reboot system and let it take its time. Then you'll be flying high! :D

EDIT: Once you're up & stable, power down the gTab and reinsert the external SD card. Then power up, shop the Market and install Flash. BTW Farmville does NOT work on gTab :(
