Keep in mind that the notifications ringtone is different than the email ringtone. Each email app has a ringtone setting for each email address. That's all I'm trying to point out. This may or may not be your issue.

Yes, text messages have their own ringtone as well. Open the Messaging app, get to the Messaging window (where you can see a list of contacts that you've been messaging with), press the Menu button, tap Settings, scroll down to the bottom where you see "Select ringtone".
K so download "sms popup" then go to ur messesging app n click Menu >> Settings>> then uncheck the notifications, do it in mutiple messeging apps if applys.. then open sms popup n change ur settings u can create a default n make customs per person.. Ringdroid is a good app that goes a lot with it!!!! Post comment if this helped any!!
