Hmmm. -"Dusty Glass" wallpaper?

In the forum dog house.
I now have dust specs under my screen. That REALLY irritates me. It's as bad as a stuck pixel to me. Yeah, I know I'm a bit OCD, but for me this is really upsetting.
I keep my stuff in perfect shape, and I've modified all sorts of gadgets to keep them free of debris inside. I have no idea how to get the dust out from under my screen without disassembly. It sticks out to me like a sore thumb. Blowing it out will likely blow more bits under the screen. The edge of the screen is a trap for dust. I was going to use clear silicone sealant, but I figured I had plenty of time to do that given that I've been babying the phone.
I've only had the phone for 10 days. I've rooted it, and I've loaded about 140 apps on it, a few of which are paid for. I haven't checked if I can easily "unroot" my phone without losing everything. I also don't know if all the apps I paid for can be transfered to a new Droid if I return this one.
...I also don't know if they'll just laugh at me for trying to return my Droid for a new one because of a little bit of dust.

Arggg!. It's the greatest gadget I've ever had, too. Maybe it's the fact that it does everything I need & want so perfectly that fuels my OCD for a perfect screen, as well.

I dunno if speckled wallpaper will fix my concern.

First and foremost: Use ASTRO and backup ALL of your apps to your sdcard, then to your PC. (Backup your whole sdcard while you are at it. Some apps store other files elsewhere on your sdcard, i.e. Beautiful Widgets.) Backup your Contacts too. It's VERY easy to do in the Contacts app.

Second: Unroot your phone by forcing the 2.0.1 update.zip. No problem.

Third: Take your DROID back and DEMAND another. If it has dust under the screen now, it's only going to have more as time goes on. And it you're half as OCD as you claim, you don't want to be applying clear silicone sealant to this fine piece of craftsmanship. Mine is still PERFECT after 5 weeks of HEAVY use. Yours should be too. ;)

BTW, Verizon will let you keep that sdcard.

Wow- A support group for fellow OCD technogeeks! I LOVE this place! :D
I'm still not sure, but I'm leaning towards replacing it. There's actually another spec in there as of today. I'm thinking there's something not quite right. I mean, I am SUPER careful with this thing. I won't even let some of my friends touch it. I carry it in a zip-lock bag because I haven't found the perfect case/pouch for it; a new zip-lock bag every day! I just can't figure out how it's getting in there.

I bet it's the open audio jack that's letting it in. I've been looking around for a device with a rubber audio jack plug that I can scavenge, cut down to size and put in there.

Go to your local hardware store, or Home Depot, Sears Hardware ... and look for one of these in their hardware section. They should have a size that would work nicely. And they are cheap too ... buy several.

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

LOL @ ziploc bag. WOW. Seriously? Come on man, that's a bit too extreme.
Actually, no, I don't think it is too extreme for a brand new $600 phone.
I never drop my cameras, phones or laptops, but dust, hair (pet) and debris is always a problem.
I know I look funny keeping in a ziplock bag, but I work with metal for a living. Even during this holiday vacation while I'm just visiting friends & family, I know that the debris that is forever trapped in the pockets of most of my clothes is NOT something I want to expose my brand new $600 phone to.

-I'm just waiting for the perfect case for my perfect phone.

...Did I mention that it's a $600 phone? ;)
