Help X10 2.1 Update - Issues/Problems

Hi
I did install for the 2.1 update1 for my X10i, working well and it takes about 50 min's to install it but the main problem is that i couldn't use the root for my Phone and I tried several types of App. but I got nothing, so my advice every body has to wait for the supporting then install the update.

I had the 2.1 update 1 loaded and I was able to root my phone, then install a custom rom/image using these steps:

http://androidforums.com/x10-all-th...-x10-setting-up-boot-loader-custom-theme.html

But I assume you tried to install http://androidforums.com/x10-all-things-root/215481-one-click-root-app.html by copying the apk to the phone and then running it from the phone?

After I updated my phone software to 2.1 (about 2 months ago) I had this problem that just annoys me alot.
My phone resets itself automatically, it just turns off and on continuously. It happens whenever, aslong as I use my phone it just gets stuck and resets itself, sometimes I cnt even get through the pattern unlock part. It does this about 6 times in a row then doens't start at all untill i take out the battery and wait for 5 mins and put it back in, but then again it just keeps on resetting.

Anyone had this issue? I brought it to the SE centre and they said it was a software issue but i dont think so because they just reinstalled my software on it and still isnt fixed. Should i bring to repairs or anyone knows how to fix it? Ive done the re-install a several times already

If I were you I would do 1 of 2 things, both involve doing a backup (sync contacts and whatnot) then do 1 of the following:

1 - reinstall 2.1 and then set it all up again...sync all that
2 - go through the steps I did to install a custom version of 2.1 Eminence

http://androidforums.com/x10-all-th...-x10-setting-up-boot-loader-custom-theme.html

It is most likely being caused by some app that has been loaded that is messing around in the background, but who knows...you could also download a task manager...every once and a while take a look at what apps are running in the background and causing you problems.

Here is another handy webpage to take a look at....some tips on speeding up the phone...helping speed it up will prevent it from crashing...because it is most likely shutting down because it is acting sluggish

As far as I know, even though the apps appear on the SDCard, they are actually installed on the internal memory. Not sure how to get the Notes back....if there is even a way. The app itself might be on the internal, but the personal info and cache and anything the apps loads are stored on the SDCard.

Next time for apps...if you do plan on doing anything like that again I would suggest installing appbrain...install all the apps you want...sync them with appbrain, then next time you to a reflash (the upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1 wipes everything and does a reflash...same as installing the Eminence image) appbrain will make note of what apps you have loaded...then next time if you wipe it all clean, you can install appbrain...provide name and password...sync....and all the previous apps will do a batch type install.

I don't know if for the notes it happens to keep the notes on the SDCard somewhere.

I'm facing a similar problem as Iamyamo, since I updated to 2.1 (last January) I'm having some troubles with my xperia x10. About three days after updating and while playing Ninjump, my phone reboot. It ad happened two time before with different apps, but this one was different since my phone didn't want to turn on again. I remove the battery and put it again but nothing, I had to go with technical support where they told me the battery was blocked (after two weeks of check >.<) .. After I got my phone back, I first notice the reboot problems when I recorded a video (with the default camera app) it wouldn't stop rebooting over and over again, I had to remove the battery and put it again to fix it, and then it's been happening more frequently.

Finally, just a few minutes ago I followed the tips in the link beau420 posted (How to Speed Up Your Old or Sluggish Android Device).. After that, I recorded a video for testing purposes, and afer a minute my phone rebooted, and after rebooted twice it finally turned off and didn't turn on again. I removed the battery and put it again and it's finally working.

This problem's really anoying! Is it possible the default camera app what's causing this troubles? But I've got the reboot problem while playing games as well (angry birds) and even when I got sms (using handcent) and listening music (with double twist)

Do you think it's a memory/battery issue and advice going to tech support again? Or do you think it's an bad coded app what's possible causing it?

And what to do? =/

Had exactly the same trouble with my X10 mini pro.

Before update it was smooth and fast, after...just horribly slow.
Solution: Try first some kind of task killer, i killed the roadsync app and some more, instantly it got faster actions (like before update)

What to do with these stupid pre-installed apps that no-body wants ??
S: Go get yourself the super one click by Shortfuse ( ShortFuse )
Now root your phone, when that is done open the ADB shell in your CMD (command promt - DOS) , or terminal emulator in the phone.

Try SU (and enter, at least in typing into the phone it self) first.
Then i used mount command to allow my self to edit everything.
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Next: cd /system/app (enter)
LS (list command, will allow you to se the contents in the command mode)
To remove unwanted applications write:
rm -r nameofapp.apk (nothing more needed)

Following is a good list of unusefull applications:
Android Forums & Windows Phone Discussion @ xda-developers
/wiki/index.php?title=Xperia_X10_Mini_Deleting_Applications

It is a bit complicated thing (you can find the info on more places) but this works very well, and now the phone can be used again!

Hi,

I have upgraded my partners x10 from Android 1.6 to 2.1, and I used the 'Backup and Restore' option as specified by the Sony upgrade software which I obtained from the Sony Ericsson website.

On restoring everything I seem to have lost the paid-for apps and the associated game saves.

3 months of Angry Birds progress have been lost. I now have one very angy bird of my own! :(

Can anyone advise please as to how I can get the paid-for apps back without paying for them again, and also whether the old game data might be lurking anywhere... how I can restore it.

Thanks in advance...

According to this thread, here is how you get the apps back:

Main: Android 2.1 Update wiped my apps.. Can...

I found the same thing when I did the update. However, after reconnecting to the Market (you'll need to resupply your gmail account info) they showed up in the Downloads tab and I was able to re-install them from there.
The free ones, tho, didn't show up, so I had to find them again and reinstall.

That might get the apps back.

As for game progress...I don't know if there is a way to move your Angry Bird progress from 1.6 to 2.1.

You can backup your Angry Bird data by rooting your phone and installing an app like Titanium....but I am not sure if you were to back it up on 1.6 and try and restore it on 2.1....would that data be readable? I don't know.

I haven't looked too much into it....but I did notice this thread on a different site:

Here is how to backup Angry Birds progress

FYI. Angry birds scores are stored in:
/data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds/files/highscores.lua
Backup that single file and restore and you can save your progress.

Thanks beau420, I really appreciate the prompt and detailed reply.

I don't think she can remember what google account she used so we had to create a new one. I'm still looking into it but all of this info is really helpful.

I'll take a look at that folder structure and see if the file is still there...

Thanks again!

Try these:

Hopefully you used a valid email address at some point when you created the gmail account.

Since I have updated it to the new version my phone keeps restarting every 5 minutes and my market version is changed. I am not able to find my old apps in the market anymore. Any advise.

Next time create a new thread with your problem...don't add to this ancient thread.

So, did you upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1? Or did you upgrade from 2.1 to something else?

Remove old apps you don't use. Give it about 30 minutes or so. And do a full restart. Turn off the phone....take out the battery for a minute and put it back in and start it back up....hopefully that will clear all the cache.

If the old apps you had were on Android 1.6. It is being phased out. Most apps are designed for 2.3, but there are still a ton of apps for 2.1....much more than 1.6.

So, as for your apps, find the new one's. Most companies who make apps don't support 1.6. So, a lot of the 1.6 stuff that is out there could be from companies that no longer exist or the did not update the app.

I am sure you will be able to find equivalent apps. If you have any questions don't hesitate in asking, but I to make it easier, create a new thread next time.

If the phone keeps restarting after all of that, you might want to think about reinstalling 2.1 again....not common, but it is possible it didn't update as perfectly as it could.

Actually, mine seems much brighter than on Donut. I never turned the brightness down much below 2/3 on 1.6, but I'm happy running at 50% in bright daylight on Eclair.

Yes, I noticed this as well.

1.6 = 0-15% red, 15-90% yellow, 90-100% green, light goes off when charged
2.1 = 0-15% red, 15-90% orange, 90-100% green, light stays on when charged, but screen lights up briefly when 100% reached (presumably to let you know, in the same way a Nokia beeps, but it assumes you're watching it!)

Ed.

Just as with 1.6, sfter the upgrade to 2.1 the LED on my handset turns OFF after full charge is reached.

My sony backup and restore didnt save all my contacts !
i backed up then followed all the instructions to update, but only 10 out of 200 plus were saved !!!!!! anyone else had this ! >?
oh and i cant log into my google mail account as i have forgotten the password (as it was always logged in , think i only typed it once) so contacts gone ! :(

Sounds like the 10 it dis save were stored on the 'phone' and those lost were on the SIM card.
Try going to Contacts and then hit Menu. Select 'More' and then 'Import Contacts'

This is what I had to do and got them all back.
